Welcome![edit]
Hi Calor :D Welcome to GWW! I notice you have been building your userpage. Did you know you can use the Show Preview button to see how it's going to look prior to actually saving it? Also, when you make small changes, it's often better to select This is a minor edit box above the Save page button. Many users that watch the Recent changes page have minor edits hidden thus your small changes would not show up. Feel free to contact any helper if you have questions. Anyway, happy wiki-ing and welcome! -- Brains12 23:19, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Guild Wars utopia edit[edit]
Please feel free to undo my edit by all means. Although the word "utopia" was being used incorrectly, it is still the common usage of the word. Since the note said it is commonly used to describe a perfect society or something along those lines, it was acceptable with the understanding that it was using the most common usage. Even if the usage is technically incorrect, it is still the general usage, which is what the note was reffering to. --68.222.91.49 13:24, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Premade template[edit]
Just out of curiosity, is there a premade template for user pages that I can simply edit? I really don't like attempting to learn CSS especially when my forte is HTML. Thank you. Rev 17:41, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- ...you don't need to know CSS, and even then, it takes an hour to learn. Not even. But I believe User:Lensor has a character template for your userspace. There's no "about me" type userpage template, as the options are so diverse. Most HTML can be used on wikis, so make a page in HTML and see how it turns out. Calor 21:12, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks and a Question[edit]
Hey there, thanks for improving the Sets of Kournan Armor page. I was wondering how did you get the picture to load? I set it up then uploaded the image. It wouldn't load and I couldn't figure out why so I left it be hoping that someone else would figure it out. I'm asking so next time I'd know what to do and leave less clutter for others to clean up. – Barinthus 19:59, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- It was loaded when I first looked at the page. It was probably wiki server lag, and it took a minute for everything to cache. Just wait it out a few minutes, and it should be fine. Calor 20:02, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, I thought perhaps that's why but wanted to double check. – Barinthus 20:15, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Icons[edit]
What about adding in icons of dyed armor and weapons? Little bit too much? — Renuro Seru Talk 02:57, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- Most developed weapon pages have a dye chart of the weapon dyed the eight (?) dyes. As for armor, it's probably too much. The potential combinations and clutter are overwhelming. Also, I don't believe dyed objects can be extracted from the .Dat, so a gallery would look real sloppy with different lighting and height and zoom and resolution, etc. Calor 18:29, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Moving Pages[edit]
In response to your comment on moving the page. How would you do that? I'm a bit new to the Wiki so I don't know all the tricks :P —U T O P I A N • 23:52, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- Heh, sorry, I immediately assumed you knew. At the top of every page (assuming it's not protected from moving), to the right of the history tab, is a move tab. Click that, then enter the proper names in the proper fields, and check the proper boxes. It's simple :) Calor 23:57, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Heh, you are right. Just going straight and including the min-max from vanquish may be a better idea than rewording (which has proven to fail anyways in the past).--Fighterdoken 00:10, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

- The problem started with your edit on May 18th. I commented out what you added in that edit, as a temporary fix (You added the userbox section and a load of <br>'s). I can't tell you exactly what in that section caused the problem, but I'll take a look at it after dinner (It's 6:00 here :)). Take another look at in the mean time. The error's probably blatantly obvious and both you and I missed it :p. Good luck, Calor 22:03, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

- It's all been fixed, no worries. Your page was initially in the mainspace. Wynthyst moved it to the guildspace, but accidentally misnamed it. I moved it to the correct page, at Guild:Shadow Of Torment. Enjoy editing! Calor 01:17, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

max HP[edit]
I did some of my own "calculations" and i came to the conclusion that the max hp possible is 2230.
I figure at 16 strength, endure pain, defy pain, signet of stamina.
Full survivors armor, rune of superior vigor, rune of vitea.
A sheild with a +60 while hexed mod, and a main weapon with a +30 mod.
A Mo/Rt with 16 protection and 16 communing casting vital blessing and vital weapon.
If you could work with me maybe we could come to some final agreement as to what the maximum health an average player could actually receive in game. Either way, check it over to see if i missed anything.

sry.. double posted! my bad.
Dolche 00:53, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- There are so many things that could contribute to that, so you really can't get an accurate answer. I'm slightly groggy at the moment, so I'm not remembering things very well, but I believe there are spirits and such that can raise max health (under certain conditions?) for a time. Also, certain skills like Defile Flesh and consumables. Perhaps the best way to go about it would be calculating a "maximum possible health before skills or conditions". Calor 00:59, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- i guess that is another way. But i am still interested in what is THE highest health a player can get.

Please don't undelete suggestions that deserve to be deleted[edit]
Seriously, why would you want a suggestion like the one on top of the list implemented? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:72.71.230.18 (talk).
- Not sure what you mean. I haven't undeleted anything in my time as a sysop. Are you referring to my untagging of Arenanet:Guild Wars suggestions? If so, it's because the delete tag categorized the whole page for deletion, which we don't want. That page stays. I'm not very familiar with how the Arenanet namespace works. Ask User:Erasculio or User:Gordon Ecker about how to properly scratch a single idea. I'm not sure if you can act unilaterally or need to discuss on the main talk page. calor (talk) 18:24, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Hello[edit]
i apologize for the NPA violation. I'm just tired of Izzy single-handedly ruining guild wars. Literally, let's look at the nerf to smiter's boon. Instead of finding a way to balance it and make it work without being overpowered, izzy said "I don't feel like doing the job i get payed for, let's take the lazy way out and kill the skill completely". If you were a doctor, and you had a terminally ill patient, would you say "lets take the lazy way out and let them die"? No, you would spend hours on end to find what is wrong and make sure the patient lives a healthy life. Izzy has made a few bonehead moves in the past, but they were forgivable. Now, he has ruined GvG completely with the Amulet of Protection bug, and he ruined a rather viable (if a little overpowered skill) skill by taking the easy way out. Anet seriously needs to see this, and if Izzy is the skill balancer in guild wars 2, as much as i love this game, i will not buy it. that simple 70.15.6.95 02:36, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- I c wut u did thar.
- One of GW's overarching problems is the insane number of skills. Most normal people can't be expected to be able to connect every skill icon with the skill's name and effect in the split second you have to decide how to react in PvP, not to mention all the overpowered shit that comes as a result of so many random skills reacting in ways unforseen when the game was originally developed. I mean, seriously, were the devs thinking about Heart of Holy Flame when they made Power Attack? Of course not.
- The other thing is Izzy had nothing to do with the coding of Amulet of Protection. He's a balancer, not a coder.
- Smiter's Boon was overpowered. It's a skill that never should have existed, but the team in charge of creating new skills isn't the team in charge of balancing the game (and, it seems, doesn't consider PvP when it creates new skills).
- I appreciate your rage directed at Izzy - he deserves it - but it's founded upon the wrong principles. GW's current skill system is like a garden left to its own devices for, say, three years on end - what began as a nicely trimmed bunch of flowers with a few weeds here and there has morphed into an overgrown tangle of ivy that's choking out all the good plants - it needs a chainsaw, and badly. Izzy's tried applying it in the past, but not with enough force and in the right places (usually only one of the two).

- Tbh, the amount of skills is not/ should not be the problem. WoW also has an insane number of skills, but the balancers there can find ways to keep the game relatively balanced. Hmm? perhaps this is because they actually do what they're paid to do...? idk though...70.15.6.95 17:25, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- An insane number of skills? According to WowWiki, Mages only have 38 non-talent spells (counting the Portal series, Teleport series and Conjure Mana Stone series as one spell each) and 11 talent spells. -- Gordon Ecker 23:56, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

- Don't count the portal, teleport, slow fall, or conjure food/drink spells (including Ritual of Refreshment) - they simply don't contribute to balance at all (portal and teleport have a 10s cast and are really more for convenience than anything, conjure food/drink just saves you money buying proper food, and slow fall is essentially never used due to the reagent that's only available from birds no one farms). Also, WoW is not balanced. -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 00:26, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- I just did a more careful count, excluding Slow Fall, they've got 31 non-talent buffs and combat spells (I'm counting Arcane Brilliance and Arcane Intellect as the same buff because they don't stack, and counting Conjure Mana Stone as a buff since the stones are usable in combat and have their own cooldown). -- Gordon Ecker 03:12, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

- One post on the buildings talk page. What about with the "Don't repeat these mistakes", and the benefits one? And I'll repeat what I told you on your talk page: The IP is not a vandal because he has an opinion which conflicts with yours. He's not a vandal because he is an IP. IP's are just as important as any other user. Would you have repeatedly reverted a well-known member of the community in good standing like that? I doubt it. calor (talk) 23:22, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- I posted on the mistakes page, Calor. I also informed the IP of 1RR which is when he started using sockpuppets and complaining about 1rr., which he had never mentioned before. Please check these things out before posting, it doesn't look good when you don't. And no, I would not have acted like that against a person in good standing because anyone doing that would not have been in good standing. Backsword 23:26, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Although, that "discussion" resolved nothing, and resulted in the IP posting lower on the page today. Perhaps discuss it there? As for the good standing comment, that's a bit of a Catch-22, but I'll ignore it. Not the greatest example. calor (talk) 23:30, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- Obviously, if the anon would have talked it would have been helpful, but given it engaged in vengance vandalism, it's maturity level isn't such that this is likely to happen now, don't you think? (The lower section is just a copy of what I told it)00:29, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Question about No Personal Attack Rule[edit]
Hello. Recently, an ex guild member started to continually post a deflamitory paragraph about the guild leaders on the guild's wiki page. The guild leader deleted it, then it was posted up again. Another wiki member deleted it this time, but I feel it will be put up yet again. The attacks can be seen here [3] and here [4]. The person has been using different computers to change IP's, not sure what to do. Thank you for your help on this matter. Mat Cauthorn, The Botanist 14:20, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, the comments are defamation, so violate NPA, etc., etc. I warned both of the IP's, although that's probably an effort in vain if the commenter is using proxies, but there's not much else to do unless he/she comes back again. calor (talk) 22:31, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for your assistance.Mat Cauthorn, The Botanist 23:27, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- He has posted another comment. I responded pretty much asking him to leave us alone, and the Guild Leader archived the discussion page, but you can see his post here (and he signed this time) [5]. Mat Cauthorn, The Botanist 00:15, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Banned for 335 Hours?![edit]
I'm confused about why I was banned for such a long period of time in Guild Wars, actually I confused about being band for any amount of time. What are the reasons? It says that I scammed someone but I did no such thing. The last thing I remember doing is running someone last night through Eye of the North and him paying me 80k to complete it. I ran him through everything but the last mission because I died and could not complete the run and he was a sleep at his computer. I waited for some time but he never responded and so I left him a message saying that I would be on today pm me and I will finish the run. I pride myself in never scamming someone or cheating them this is a big surprise to me pleace connect me asp. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:GXC7243 (talk).
- The person you ran probably never noticed your message. I didn't know they gave two week bans for scams. I personally can't help you, I'm only a wiki administrator, and I doubt support can either because you don't have any evidence supporting you or a means of contacting the person you ran. You should still try filling out a support ticket... It can't hurt to try. Good luck calor (talk) 01:09, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- Ok Thank you very much for your quick reply and your help. Is ther any way to contact a admin from Anet that can help me besides the ticket?--GXC7243 01:22, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- Please read this. If contacting support won't help you, you may contact Gaile Gray to help with your case. But please try the way via support first. poke | talk 10:35, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

- @Anvil (or whatever hes calling himself at the mo) You aren't really distracting us. We just do this to entertain ourselves and your attempts at epeening yourself through the trivia is mildly amusing. When one of us gets bored of it, another sysop will entertain ourselves with it for awhile. Thus you aren't distracting us from anything, you are an idle moment spent amusing ourselves, somewhat akin to when one aimlessly doodles on a page when bored. Welcome to being a human doodle. :) -- Salome 03:17, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

- For future reference the Trivia Vandal is reffered to As Mister71. And forgive me if im breaching NPA but ive come up with a formula
Lots of boredom+ Vandalisation+ Delight in watching others clean up his mess = Baby? Cuz thats mostly what babies do where im from. They write on stuff with crayon and poop so that others have to clean it up. Just food for thought. --71.193.48.146 14:08, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- That's why you teach a baby not to do things. You don't let them write with a crayon, but play with harmless stuff. You teach them to potty train. It's how you start teaching them to learn and behave. Perhaps take a page from that to learn that what you do is not helpful and the bans are your whippings? Usually babies stop when they are spanked, but what about an adult who can find better amusement and have things to do to not be bored? Kaisha 15:27, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- O.O I am not mister71. Im briar in disguise. But if you havent figured that out yet your probably not paying attention and dont care. Point is, Im not the trivia vandal. :P 71.193.48.146 15:29, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- Lol, but see that's what I think towards the vandal. If he can't learn that being as he does, isn't going to get anywhere; He'll be banned until all those proxy ips are permabanned and some other users can't use them at work, etc., for actual contributing things. See he should acknowledge this and respect others, but he won't and so he misbehaves and gets banned. It's not going to help anything, but what would and could one do? Do what's been done and it'll stop, when all those ips are banned and others aren't able to participate and lack of ways to contact. You'd need a real account with email set to email anyone, to get unbanned or find them in other ways some how, and explain the situation, etc. Kaisha 15:42, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Elite Skills Checklist[edit]
Thank you! I wasn't sure where to place the page... Usually I'll edit only for grammar/spelling and upload the odd image, but I'd no idea how to create a new page under the proper category. I appreciate your catching the incorrect "new page" and moving it to a more appropriate location! Gwynna Vive 22:09, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Hey there[edit]
Hey I am working on a 3D mmorpg wiki and i am just woundering how do you capture the animations and turn them into gif's?
I was thinking about making a complex code with a 3D model viewer and having that for each template... ummm...
Ill non wiki a example...
{{Monster
|image=
|level=
|gold=
|rep=
|exp=
|hp=
|mp=
|diff= (stars)
|EquipList=
|questitem=
|loc=
|notes= (optional)
}}
this is a basic monster template in a wiki, and i want to swap images out for a model viewer...
would you suggest using a gif or a model viewer?
thanks alot,

- Hey, I doubt Calor will reply to you, so I’ll just answer this for him. We had a project going on for the skill animations; you can see some details on how to record and convert the animations on the project page. In short, you would record a normal movie of the game, and then render it out to either a GIF directly or a image sequence which you then put together with a image tool that supports creating GIFs out of it.
- An alternative to creating GIFs would be to record the animations with a GIF recorder directly, for example LICEcap. Note that some games do not support being recorded like that due to how they are painted by the graphics card. poke | talk 13:05, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
Sysop rights cleanup[edit]
Hello, I appreciate you've been inactive for a fair while, but on the odd chance you've still got your talk page watchlisted/notifications enabled, I thought out of courtesy I would leave a message (admittedly I'm going to copy-paste the same message for all affected users). (1) We're going through a bit of a review of which inactive users have sysop rights (including reconfirmation), and (2) here's a link to yours: Guild Wars Wiki:Requests for adminship/Calor. -Chieftain Alex 19:02, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
