This is something I suggested a long time ago, and I'm re-suggesting it here to help get the PVE suggestions up and running, but please feel free to comment as you like, as of course I still think this is a good idea. (Satanael 07:04, 16 June 2008 (UTC))

lol ited be sweet to do that, u can maybe evin have a gvg style combat where its a loot tug o war. where u run on the oposing playerys ship an grab barrels an take em back to ur ship. unsigned
What would be even better would be another world pvp in sea warfare with capturable islands and etc. --Elven Chaos 06:02, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
BTW, just looked back over this and forgot to leave this comment, your npc enemy "pirates" would most likely be the corsair. --Elven Chaos 17:45, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Would love roaming the sea's. With my navigation skills i will get lost but i would enjoy myself tremendously. --Silverleaf User_talk:Silverleaf 08:11, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Mission map + Compass = your friend and definatly my friend. xD I would love this, story line/lore inclusive other way of playing GW2 in certain areas, adds more variety in what you can do. --Elven Chaos 23:42, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

(new speaker) Who needs ships? we have map travel =). The issue with this however is that this will take up tons of what guild wars has become. It is known for its good storyline, beautiful graphics, (and no monthly fee). I just feel if ship fights are going to happen, it will take from what it originally was. But if the Guild Wars team can make ship fights with as much detail as they have on them without distracting everyone from the rest of the game, then I can't complain. Another issue are those people who don't want to fight or can't because of an over seas escort would completely hate ships that sit at other harbors and hunt down helpless ships. In the end, if sea combat will not tower over the rest of the game, then I'm OK with it.

Of course, I don't think there's any of us that really want anything to dominate the game, no matter what it is. Having said that, I don't think this would really change what the game is all about, just add to it. I mean Corsairs have been around for a long time in the game, so from a lore perspective this would not be a big problem. And of course there would have to be ways to make this fair for people who aren't really into it, just like any other aspect of the game. Basically, so long as ANet were to treat this with the same care they treat all aspects of GW, then it should be fine. (Satanael 04:57, 8 July 2008 (UTC))

Not that it's a bad idea, but how do the players on a ship fight with others and other ships? Does each person control one canon or do they use the skills on their skill bar? Does one person just pilot the ship? It really comes down to making it playable and enjoyable to all the players on the ship, so if that can be done, then I'm for it. Otherwise, if one person is just piloting the ship, and everyone else is mostly just twiddling their thumbs waiting for the 'captain' to navigate the ship into a fight, then it could become very boring. It would kinda be like having a car racing game, where one player is the driver, and the rest are the pit crew just waiting for the car to pull into the pits. Alternatively, if the ships are 'one man' ships with the captain (player) controlling all the aspects of steering and fighting, then it could be fun.--209.194.208.116 20:48, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Sea Travel and Boats

moved from ArenaNet:Guild Wars 2 suggestions/Scratchpad

I read the article on wiki about the gw2 expansion. I was thinking that because all the campaign maps currently are seperate are they're making them into one super huge map? If they are i think thats a really good idea, if they arnt then they should. but someone above mentioned water mounts. i think this is a really good idea for maybe traveling between continents and large sea's/lakes in explorable areas. for instance you could have an explorable area from LA to Keineng centre, that you have to take a water mount across to, to access cantha. Some kind of sea creature would fit, or maybe on the side of lakes/sea's there are little huts with a person standing inside. You can talk to him, and for a small fee charter a small boat for you and your party, [maybe 200g equivelent of gw money?] this would make the game more indepth and interesting. seeing as the boat is chartered, your charected stands at the helm and using a,s,d,w keys, you can stear the boat [taking into effect wind direction and boat speed maybe] as charecters can swim you can also leave the helm and run and jump of the boat? and whilst someone is stearing it leaves the other party members to explore the boat, maybe have some minigames on it or something ? or a little dueling arena. i think something like this would be really cool! - tidus sureshot

  • But the sea route to Cantha has been cut off by the sailers that the dragon of Orr corrupted...there are conflicts in Cantha...so we have to be able to go to Cantha eventually.( (I'm not sure how to cite my name) ~Shewmake~
Maybe something to that effect however you may want to try something guild realted, I mean have the attacking guild have to fight their way to the beach and set up in the town or outpost. These ships should be big and small depending on how many people and npc soldiers are in there. In addiction to ships there maybe could be a hovering or flying asuran ships or devices with the same objectives to land and begin an attack. 24.32.111.53 17:56, 27 April 2008 (UTC)no signature
1 super map hell yea im hoping this would be the case I always wanted to see a massive persistent map way bigger than wow or anything. As a side thing what if wow between eastern kingdoms and kalimdor was all 1 persistence without that load screen between them that would really rock.
Mby big enough to actually have plans going over the map so you have to be in the plane for 10 mins if you are going across the world and it actually flies in the persistence where you can see all the landscape below. 122.109.43.82 16:05, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
i cant really remember how the instance/persistant world thing works but i would love to keep map travel. Maybe the first time u et somewhere u could take a boat trip and they leave every 10 minutes or so. that would be hilarious if we had to defend it on the journey

Then afterwards we would be free to map travel it or fly using our new amazing mounts you are going to give us Anet?

I think it would be cool if you could do a guild battle on one boat or two like have cannons like in a pirate fight.
i'd prefere to travel by the asuran gate network, that way travel to the other continents could easily be restricted, since the gate used to travel to EotN was blown up by Vekk.

I too would dearly love a seafaring element to the game. Given the availablity of map travel and Asuran gates, travel by boats will be technically unnecessary, except perhaps on your initial exploration across the sea, before you have unlocked outposts. However, as a gameplay element, I think it would be magnificent to offer some sort of adventures at sea. Examples could include battling sea serpents, pirate ships, salvaging undersea treasures, and perhaps even negotiating difficult environmental areas, like whirlpools and reefs. While on a boat, one person could steer, while the others could man shipboard weapons like harpoons (not sure if I like the idea of cannons in the GW universe, though). For close quarters combat (ie. sea serpent attacking the ship) ranged attacks and casters can attack as normal, while melee types could be incharge of steering the ship, or using the onboard weapon. In the lore article, I noticed a mention of "black masted ships" that have been sailing around Orr and LA (I think). Some sort of interaction with these ships would be wonderful. If there are titles, perhaps there could be special sailing titles, and even the option of building/buying your own boat, or a guilds boat. Patrickvp 23:35, 13 May 2008 (UTC)patrickvp

the way i see it is it would bring more frustration to the game, on the other hand it would be fun in your free time

For starters i think we should completely remove map travel! Now granted i do realize that it is a huge time saver but what is the point in having a presistant world if you can just teleport around(or out of a battle to save your skin). I personally love the idea of sea battles though! Sea battle has been one of the things i have waited for a game to utilize! also like what was said above i think that there should be real time traveling on boats(or flying mounts)! the idea of being a pirate on a video game (that isn't some disney made pirates of the caribbean game) is awesome i think guilds or just ppl should be able to team up and buy a boat for a large sum and be able to roam the open sea(or hunt down rival guild ships)! also i like another thing said above with being able to have to actually work the ship or just climb up onto the crows nest and make a diving leap into the water! over all i would like to see sea interaction almost as intricate as land interaction! i know its alot to swallow but hey!~RedRabbit

how about instead of paying to go on the boat u can buy them to captain yourself and name it. also sepratly from the guild why not have a crew? to get a boat might be say 150g for a small boat with only 2 guns which players can fire by aiming and pressing space or clicking or one for 40k with lot more guns and some in between. why not npc orr ships or canthan ships could be there to plunder and get hold of cargo. once you have enough cargo get to a port and sell it. while im at it why not a pvp field where there are big pvp sea battles... like random arenas but based on the type of boat. of course you can sail them to keineng and istan (once the expansions come out and you have defeated the right dragons). ill even try to add pictures: note i got one of these from 'pirates of the caribbean online' http://www.mmo.vn/home/images/uploads/20080328_potco6.jpg - http://blstb.msn.com/i/6E/BA9F2BDEF75EA4E468BA4058BA455C.jpg
