Painted Bird's Issue

The double damage vs. summoned creatures in the second suggestion would be redundant with the instant kill vs. summoned creatures. Non-minion undead don't count as summoned creatures, if they did, they'd take quadruple damage from the current version (double from holy damage and double from Banish's double damage vs. summoned creatures). -- Gordon Ecker 02:41, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

You misunderstand me, though. The "deals double damage vs summoned creatures" is the generic description that applies to all smiting skills. It's misleading on its face, because it sounds like it deals double vs just animated minions and spirits, but that's also referring to the double damage it deals againts regular undead like in Kryta (some undead like Smoke Phantoms do not take this bonus damage). Basically I didn't put that in there to suggest stacking it, I was just trying to make it resemble the already in-game description a little more. Sorry for the confusion. The point was if you hit a non-summoned undead enemy, the skill will deal double damage like any smiting skill. But if you target a spirit or animated minion, it gets destroyed. The damage that would've been dealt to that minion would still just be double. For instance if this couldn't kill the elite Flesh Golem, and it dealt 40 damage in the skill description, the Golem would take 80 damage and survive, and undead in Kryta would take 80 damage. But if you hit a bone fiend or a non-elite binding ritual with this, it's destroyed outright. Painted Bird 15:12, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
What if it worked kinda like Banishing Strike, and dealt AoE if you hit a summoned creature? - Elder Angelus 20:09, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
That's a property of holy damage, it wouldn't need a specific mention in the description. -- Gordon Ecker 01:49, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

An interesting idea is to have this do something completely different. like "Target foe takes 20...40 damage and is randomly shadow stepped to a nearby location." would be like shiro's banish kinda.--72.189.85.14 01:15, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Well shouldn't it be "demonic or summoned creatures"? I dont know summoned demons. And even it would be unusable in PvP. Even why not singular? "a demonic or summoned creatur" You can't target 2 foes. (even in your description: "Target foe takes ... if targeting ...") --User Yullive Consume Soul.png Yullive 13:56, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Its concised wording. less confusing then saying Demon creatures 'or' Summon creatures 'or' Undead creatures 'or' etc. I only wish that Anet allowed holy damage to affect demons in addition to undead in pve (like Lightbringer's Gaze).
Well, Lightbringers is PvE-only. ;) User Yullive Consume Soul.png Yullive 12:23, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Unrelated, but your suggestion is absolutely terrible because 1)it is better than an elite(Icy Shackles). 2)preventing physical damage is pretty much useless. You use snares in PvP to kite away from foes, prevent healers to get in range from reaching their damage, snare runners, prevent people from escaping etc. All these do not directly affect physical damage. 3)still useless in PvE because you kill mobs in 20 seconds tops or you are terrible. This is exactly why this skill feedback section is useless; too many people who don't know a single shred about balance post all sorts of terrible ideas that only escalates the issue.Pika Fan 13:56, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Yullive's suggestion should be discussed in its' own topic. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 08:12, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
