Updates[edit]

Any updates made to the template will be shown here. You should not write anything in this section at all!

October 7th, 2007[edit]

I was very busy today. Not only did I clean up and organize this talk page, but I added lots of cool stuff. Here are the new features. If you want a detailed explanation on how to use them, please take a look at the template description! If you find anything that doesn't work the way it should be, please write it down in the Bug reports section!

  • The style of the template was changed a little and the character image is shown on the left instead of top now. This may cause some issues on your page but I think it looks much nicer and makes the box much more readable!
  • "guild"-parameter was added where you can display your characters guild
  • "mini1..15"-parameters were added. You can pass the names of obtained miniatures to these parameters and it will show little icons of them. There's also a "mini_size"-parameter where you can determine the size of the miniature-icons.
  • The image parameter changed as of this update! You can not and do not have to pass the complete [[Image: User foo whatsoever.jpg|150px]] stuff anymore. If, for example, you pass "foo" to this parameter your character image location is Image:User Yourwikiname foo.jpg. I added this because I think it's more userfriendly. Unfortunatly, if you didn't use the default image location before you will have to alter your userpage! The size of the image can now be determined by passing the size to the new "image_size"-parameter
  • I added the new "created"-parameter. This parameter makes the old "age"-parameter obsolete, though I'm keeping "age" so you can use it if you think you want to - but I would not suggest it! With the new "created" parameter you can just pass the date of character creation to this parameter and it will automatically determine your character's age every time someone visits your userpage now! So you never have to update your characters age again! You can also choose if the date of character creation should be shown by using the "created_show"-parameter!

Feature Suggestions[edit]

Add any features you would like to be implemented in this section!

Mission & Title Progresses - Your opinion[edit]

I was just looking through all the User templates and I stumbled across some interesting templates. I'm talking, for example, about Template:EotNDungeonProgression, Template:ElonianMissionProgression or Template:CanthanVanquishProgression. I thought about if I should add stuff like that into this template. If a user has accomplished something cool or is trying to accomplish something he could pass this to the infobox. So, let's say he is vanquishing cantha at the moment, then he passes something like VanquishCantha = 0|0|1|1| ... (and so on) to this template and then this templates passes it on to Template:CanthanVanquishProgression, so the result gets shown in the userbox. It could add a lot of fun and possibilities to this template, but it also could make the template very complicated to use and the result (the character infobox itself) a lot more confusing. So I thought I just talk to the people who will (or might) use the template. What do you think about this? Should stuff like that be added? If so, do you see alternative methods to the one I mentioned above? Would be great if you shared your opinion on this with me! Thanks! -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 21:47, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Favorite Skills[edit]

I would think it'd be an interesting idea of having a character's favorite skills to be included in the infobox. JupiterStarWarrior 00:27, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Bug reports[edit]

Found something that does not work the way it should be? Then write that down in this section!

New position of the character image (fixed)[edit]

This update seems to have moved the character image from the top to the side. Is this intentional? It kinda warps the rest of the box. Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 20:04, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

It actually is intentional, I left a note at the update section of this page. I'm sorry if this causes any trouble to you but I thought it looks nicer and makes the boxes easier to read. But if it bothers too much people I will add a parameter where you can choose if the picture should be shown on the top of the box or on the left/right. Since that is much work and I thought most (if not all) people would like the new style better, I didn't implement such a parameter. -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 20:14, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh and by the way: Check the update notes on the top of the page. I added some cool new features that you might want to check out ;-) enjoy and feel free to leave a feedback about the new style. -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 20:17, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok, since I don't actually have a picture yet, I made that comment rather hastily, i'll check out how it looks after I get one :). Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 19:34, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
If you want to you can now disable the image completly by filling the parameter "image_show" with any value ;-) -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 23:53, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Automatic image name (fixed)[edit]

I have a small grievance. The entire world doesn't use .jpg as extensions of their images. This new style only allows for that. Also vote for: optional top/side align of image. (PS: Good work on this nice template) --Necromancer-icon.png Darth Vader (talk contribs) 05:57, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Yep, sorry, didn't think of that. I introduced a new "image_ext" parameter so that you can specify an extension for your image. Have a look onto the template page for further explanations :-) And thanks for the praise. -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 12:26, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

"float" refuses to cooperate (fixed)[edit]

Forgive me if I'm being a complete dunce here, but for some reason "float" has decided to stop working on my Character infoboxes on my UserPage. Originally it did work, and I hadn't made any changes since I'd initially set them up, but now all the infoboxes are now stuck to the left (not just the image, I'm aware of that change, but the entire infobox is stuck to the left) and no changes to "float" seem to do anything. I can't seem to find what the problem is, and trying to find UserPages that use this template in order to see if it's just me is like finding a needle in a haystack. :( The Pointless 23:04, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

You're correct, it was a bug that occured because of the style-change. I guess I fixed it and "float" should work fine now :-) enjoy the template. -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 11:58, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

No icon by Ranger (fixed)[edit]

I don't get a icon of ranger by the profession. Other professions does work. Can you tell me how I can fix this? Mistress of Trade 20:20, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

You're right, this is actually a problem with the wiki-software itself. Template:R was used to display the icon but since {{R}} is reserved the wiki only accepts {{r}}. The Problem is, that the profession-parameter was always changed to an uppercase 'R' by this template regardless of what you typed in as the profession-parameter, so the ranger-icon was never shown. I altered the templated and it should work now, no matter if you pass "r", "R", "ranger" or "Ranger" as the profession-parameter. -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 12:08, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Thank you very much. It works now. Mistress of Trade 20:59, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Skill Bar & Title Problems[edit]

I recently noticed that not only on the example character box for this template, but also on my user page that the code for the build section of this template is visible instead of the actual skill bar. I also noticed the same problem with the titles section as well. I was wondering if anyone else had noticed or planned on fixing these problems. Kalus Kordosa 12:06, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Someone edited a 'table end' out.. I think that broke the rendering somewhat fierce. The way the Template:Title list is used in this template, seems to have gotten broken with the update to mediawiki 1.12, in which the parser for wiki markup has been changed, and somehow all templates that abused a 'bug', will most likely exhibit a similar unexpected renedering. I've not looked into how to fix this though, i just know it's an issue and its been discussed on various mailing lists. However a good start would be too look at wikimedia:Migration to new preprocessor --Necromancer-icon.png Darth Vader (talk contribs) 19:24, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, how do we fix this to start showing skills properly again? Tong2 21:49, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Over Enveloping Problem[edit]

The box is for some reason enveloping a title for another section which i don't want it to envelop. have a look at my profile and you`ll see what i mean .The Title is " Melee Character" BaconLord 05:33, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Basically Same Thing For Me With Two Character Boxes In A Row Adi 09:11, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Example, Adding a "|}" After Template "Fixes It" So I Assume One Is Left Out So User boxes Can Be Added Adi Talk 10:14, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick-and-dirty fix tip, Adi. Now my page can have some semblance of order again. Kalus Kordosa 00:03, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Image section sucks[edit]

Change it so we can point to the image we want to, i don't feel like uploading duplicates of images already on the server just so this stupid thing can use it. I'm not a retard, i know where to upload my images to. --Lou-SaydusUser Lou-Saydus Hail Storm.jpg 00:17, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Seconded. Right now you can specify the name of the image after the "prefix" ("user USERNAME" is already generated). However, as you know, Wiki stuff is case-sensitive. My old character images are all named as "user eldin blah.jpg", though this template wishes to look for "user Eldin blah.jpg" instead. Can that be tweaked, or do I have to re-upload all my stuff? User eldin sig.jpg Eldin 00:07, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

(I'll bring in the author of that change) I also believe that any change to a template should be backwards-compatible. Or at least leave an option for existing users to retain their old image names without being forced to re-upload. Also, I'd like to point out a bug in the infobox. "BASEPAGENAME" will not work as expected if users of this template put their characters in sub-subpages.
