For my most part I am based in PvE, generally running around all of the campaigns and the Eye of the North region helping out random groups or just doing my own thing. Slowly chipping away at this. Once every now and then I will find myself in the PvP areas, usually Alliance Battle but Random Arena can also be find.

All and all I think Guild Wars at its heart a very decent game. I like the variety of characters and roles you can play, more primary professions can be adaptive to numerous combinations allowing, even at a stretch, a wide variety of roles. Which I enjoy. Options, even if a bit of a struggle, are something I appreciate.
For me, my styles of gameplay and roleplay, I find the Dervish always be to play the way I want to play. A profession that can 'do it all', has some devastating attacks, good defence, some really nice AOE effects and self healing and healing capabilities. Even without a secondary Dervish is a force to be reckoned with. A good mid-line based profession that can be outfitted to be viable in all three positions; front line, mid line and back line. I generally play front line, this simply because I H/H a lot. I mix better secondaries, often shadow stepping to my enemies for a bit of holy AOE before my front liners catch up or the Elementalist rain down fire from above.

Wednesday 2 July, 2008 Difficult to write something such as this when it's not released but here are my thoughts thus far. Its early days in Guild Wars 2 development, I would imagine that a lot of concept work is being done, and trialed. It must be a very exciting time at Arenanet, but a lot at Arenanet has me a little concerned; mainly related to their treatment of Guild Wars and the staffing issue they are having to get any kind of 'caretakers' for the current games while the bulk work on the new one. I can 110% understand the priorities towards Guild Wars 2, its the new project and I'm sure everyones very excited and has many interesting and enjoyable ideas for it, but there are a few things that have already caught my eye and have some personal concern scratching into the back of my mind. The problems with direct sequels I find is that a foundation is established, a very necessary component and one to which can't be understated but this can also cause a few issues. At this early state one of my desires to know are the human professions. In Guild Wars we have ten over the 3 campaigns:
Thats a wide variety of play styles right there, a nice foundation, though not with their own issues but still a good foundation. Now, with the Guild Wars 2 FAQ we are told "Guild Wars 2 is a whole new game with different professions and races", the new races is a notion I enjoy, can add lore and depth to gameplay and story telling but what concerns me most is the "different professions" segment. At this stage it is not yet revealed what professions are returning. I would imagine the 6 generic professions; Warrior, Monk, Elementist, Mesmer, Ranger and Nercomancer will return, but can't get over the sneaky feeling that the four additional professions might be axed, if not for the first installment of Guild Wars 2. This, if it actually happens, is something I know I'm not going to enjoy. Yes, it would be understandable, getting back to basics and with the addition of the Norn, Asuran, Charr and this totally undefined race, the Sylvari, there is a lot of different characters there for people to play, but I personally would be disappointed if we weren't given access to the other four professions. At this early with things its not really that much of an issue, just me probably.
Another sunking feeling I can't seem to shake this early on, is the notion of a repeat - Guild Wars 2 repeating Guild Wars. Allow me to expand. From the article that was released, Movement of the World, we learn some interesting points. One thing that again caught my eye was how the three regions of Tyria (the world), Tyria, Cantha and Elona are all seperated; Joko controls Elona and Cantha is out of reach as well. So, we're returning to Tyria again? I am hoping there will be something epic in Guild Wars 2, since it will have smaller story archs apparently, something like breaking through to the other provinces and start rebellion and stuff. Interesting stuff. But, it wouldn't spread me if Guild Wars 2, to begin with starts off as a Tyria (province) only story. Orr has also risen from the bottom of the sea, which will be interesting to see. There's a lot of possibilities and I hope that expand upon the massive world they already have to begin with, and adding new provinces in further expansions/campaigns.
The Asuran interest me, I have enjoyed a lot of thing architexture and their character, and is one of the races that I am really, really looking forward to. When it comes to Guild Wars 2 I hope they don't go [Arenanet that is] in the way of World of Warcraft and make them only caster types. I have never been able to drop the notion of seeing an Asuran 'warrior' in a suit of Golem armour, wearing it like an exoskeleton, mixing up the whole Golemancer gameplay and taking them into the front lines more.
There's probably more I could add but my head is falling to sleep. I hope to add to this later :) |
