Welcome[edit]

Hi, welcome to the Guild Wars Wiki! Your signature should link to your user page (Foxman525) not a mainspace page (Foxman525). See Help:Signatures if you need additional information regarding signatures. Thanks. --Silver Edge 06:41, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I still need to learn much, and I am learning every day by practicing on both the GWW and GW2W. I understand now what you said except for one thing. What is the difference between mainspace :page and user page?
Foxman525(talk)
To answer your question about Mainspace vs. User, the latter is a subsection where Anet lets the users of the wiki create pages of their own (with restrictions and details found at GWW:USER). The Mainspace is where we document the game (you'll notice the lack of "User:", "Guild:", "Feedback:" or "Category:" in front of all Mainspace articles). G R E E N E R 22:06, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Signature Help[edit]

I have another question. I'm not understanding how to use Wiki markup on the Preferences page>Signature box — Foxman525(talk)

To quote what I have exactly in my preference: <span style="color:#030"> G R </span> <span style="color:#070"> E E </span> <span style="color:#0B0"> N E </span> <span style="color:#0F0"> R </span> . This will link people to my my user page.
I basically made my signature a link, and then I gave it a different look after the | symbol. If you wish for your link to take people to your talk page instead, you can change the start to be [[user talk:Foxman525| ...
I also have checked the box which says "Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link)". G R E E N E R 23:16, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
God, I also just realized I probably didn't answer your question at all. I need to stop replying in a rush. If you describe what you're hoping you can get your signature to do, others who are far better at coding can likely hop in and help. G R E E N E R 23:18, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
Ye, that did not answer my question. It says my raw signature is not correct, and that I have to check my HTML tags. I'm guessing that I need the tag '<HTML>' '</HTML>' before and after respectively on my signature or something like that since I tried that and it doesn't work. — Foxman525(talk)
— <span style="color:#FF4500; font-family:Tahoma">Foxman</span><span style="color:#0AA">5</span><span style="color:#44B">2</span><span style="color:#77C">5</span>(talk)
It probably doesn't like the combination of font and span tags. I've simplified the html markup it uses for you. (Tahoma wasn't rendering for your version above on my pc, which uses firefox).
I've tested the code and it works. Just copy everything inside the pre tags above, paste it into the signature box on preferences and then tick the "treat sig as wikitext box" -Chieftain Alex 08:02, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Heroic, you solved my dilemma perfectly; tyvm. — Foxman525(talk) 16:29, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

(Reset indent) As per GWW:SIGN#Images, the image used in your signature should have alternative text and redirect to your user page or user talk page. For example:

--Silver Edge 08:19, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

afaik, alt text would default to show the wikitext of the link if the image didn't load, still the link would be good. -Chieftain Alex 23:29, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
That did it; thank you everyone for the help, and I hope I'am not being a nuisance. — Foxman525(talk) 00:56, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
You're welcome. --Silver Edge 08:59, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
I thought "If an image is used in your signature, include an empty alternative text for accessibility reasons" at Guild Wars Wiki:Sign your comments was referring to accessibility and screen readers. --Silver Edge 08:59, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
That does not really make sense since if people just want to use reader to see the text the image would not display anyways. — Foxman525(talk) 19:50, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Sandbox[edit]

Hey Foxman,

You can create your own personal sandbox area to test under your User space. For example, you can create it at User:Foxman525/Sandbox. Also, you can use the show preview option to speed up your editing. G R E E N E R 22:00, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I knew that already. ^_^ ty for responding. — Foxman525(talk)
