Nicholas the Traveler location on collectible page[edit]

I don't understand your deletion of the Nicholas the Traveler location. Just because something hasn't been on there before doesn't mean it should never be on there. I just started playing this game a few weeks ago and the Tangled Seed page had no helpful information in acquiring Tangled Seeds. I don't know if you saw any of the updates that were on the page yesterday but I had added those. I came across more useful information on another page that I thought was Public Domain. Anyway, the Nicholas the Traveler location is useful especially for people who do not have any idea where he is located. I didn't even know there was a screenshot of his location until mine was flagged for being a duplicate. I have since linked the original image. Point being, not everyone knows how to access this information and presenting on the page where it will be most useful is a good thing. Why can formats not change? --caliban_6 02:39, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

An image of his current location can always be found on Nicholas the Traveler. Images of the location of a collector have always been on the page of the collector, not the item the collector collects (e.g. image of the location of Tully Blackvine is on the Tully Blackvine page, not the Tangled Seed page). --Silver Edge 02:48, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
Deleted because I agree the image is redundant and there is a more up to date photo there. I just think there needs to be something more intuitive for newer users to find the guy. I didn't realize the location was on his page because since his location was constantly changing. --caliban_6 02:55, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
The Nicholas the Traveler page (and Main Page via Main Page/activities) usually displays his current location, item wanted, and a location map after his location is found (usually within 12 hours after his location changes via http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5740278&postcount=1 and/or http://www.authmann.de/guildwars/nicholas/) and Nicholas the Traveler/Research is updated. --Silver Edge 03:23, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Farming for Just My Luck[edit]

Hello SE. I noticed your edits on the Lunar Token page here: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lunar_Token#Factions_quests I doublechecked again, meticulously following your edits. When I resign I still get sent to the outpost. Both for Factions and non-Factions characters. I started a discussion on the LT talkpage for it. But at the moment the most recent version of your edits won't work for me. Maybe someone has any insights. Cheers! Steve1 (talk) 08:22, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Super kudos on Anniversary Celebration diligence[edit]

I was just looking at the wiki and realized that if you hadn't asked about Boardwalk etc. previously, we might have completely missed out this year, or at least it probably would have been delayed from the official start date. So thank you so incredibly much! 67.246.60.56 01:46, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

You're welcome. Enjoy the rest of the event. --Silver Edge 02:02, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

Regarding a very old edit[edit]

Have you considered that it may now be The Future? - Tanetris (talk) 16:41, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

I'm undecided, but it seems to me that the wiki is currently functioning fairly well with the remaining active admins and the wiki's low amount of activity. --Silver Edge 09:01, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
All things considered, we're in pretty good shape right at the moment, but one reason they pay me the big bucks (or they would if I got paid for this) is thinking forward. If Alex gets hit by a bus, we're gonna be pretty shorthanded. Even if he doesn't, I don't think we're at too-many-cooks-spoiling-the-soup threshold atm. Anyway, give it a think-over. You're one of this wiki's assets, and I expect putting more tools at your disposal to only be a benefit. - Tanetris (talk) 12:53, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
Okay, The Future is now. --Silver Edge 08:05, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
IIRC in the past there was always an announcement at the top of the main page to let people know that there's a vote going on. WOuld make sense to do it this time as well - otherwise nto very many people will notice. Steve1 (talk) 17:26, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
That was only for bureaucrat elections, which we don't have anymore. -Auron 03:44, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

I can't let Misery be the only sysop without a user page =P. I guess it would be make instead of remake, because every time my user page was created, it was done by someone else. Now that I can view deleted edits, the first time it was created and then deleted was when another user created the page with the message "OMG Theres stuff on your page!" The second time was when another user mistook it as my talk page. The other times it was created was due to vandalism. --Silver Edge 20:56, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Extremely belated condolences on your nomination and acceptance of the Sysop position on this wiki. It's a thankless task and I'm not sure how I managed to avoid it (or how User:Tanetris managed to bamboozle you into accepting — well done, T!).

I am, however, sorry, I wasn't around to add my name to your RfA; I can't think of a more qualified person for the job. As far as I am concerned, you have been one of the most important admins at GWW for ages; you managed to do all sorts of admin-y things with speed and poise, despite not having the title or the nifty set of tools that comes with the job. The wiki is/will be in very good hands with this long-overdue change. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 10:40, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for your support. The GW2W is benefiting from having a great contributor like yourself. Happy editing (whether it be here or the GW2W)! --Silver Edge 20:42, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

Users...[edit]

Odd one[edit]

For some reason, Category:Users who play the Factions campaign is a subcategory of every item under Category:Users by Guild Wars installations played, which is unnecessary, yet with no obvious way for me to correct it. --Falconeye (talk) 19:52, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

That was caused by the templates being transcluded there. Also, welcome back! --Silver Edge 20:59, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

Reorganize[edit]

After some reorganizing and merge proposals, I need a consensus on what -does not- belong in Category:Users by Guild Wars in-game variables. Might also consider renaming the poorly thought out ones for consistency.
  • Apparently the "frivolous category" are strictly for all things humorous and not to be taken seriously. What user-cats should be moved here? I also think it should be renamed to Category:Users by humorous categories
  • I created a GW2 category as container for all gw2-related stuff -not relevant- to gw1.
  • I have -no idea- how even begin with "other variables". A vague name bloated with 145 categories; us this meant as a catch all for anything not related to gw1, gw2, Lore, gameplay/mechanics, or the community?
Should GW in-game variables be split into --> GW variables ---> in-game, lore-based, community, ----> subcategories?
--Falconeye (talk) 06:21, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
Why do I suddenly feel a sense of déjà vu coming on.... Oh right.
My personal stance on user categories in 2014: combine them all in the simplest sub-categories (by Guild Wars variable, by Guild Wars 2 variable, by miscellaneous variable) and be done with it. - Infinite - talk 20:59, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
Yes, the simplest subcategories would be best. Separating the user categories by creating more subcategories seems unnecessary since nearly all of the users in those categories are inactive anyway (i.e. will never edit this wiki again). --Silver Edge 20:11, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
Should we consider deleting some of the redundant, "dumbest", least populated, most inactive, badly named, etc. as part of an overall clean-up? For the record, I think Users who think Mhenlo is a pimp is a GREAT category. ^_^ --Falconeye (talk) 22:25, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
Well, only empty categories should be deleted, which would require editing those user templates to categorize into a different category, but then user templates usually have their own category, so I don't see how that would work. --Silver Edge 22:37, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
The work involved in the extensive cleaning of the user categories and associated templates is not something I'd advise a small active community to tackle. It's a monstrous task. - Infinite - talk 10:28, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

Fish/fishes[edit]

Technically the affiliation (an article that is apparently very much unfinished at this point) Fish depicts multiple species of fish and thus the plural that would have to be used is indeed "fishes". I'm also 99.9% sure this discussion has been brought up in the past somewhere, but for the life of me I can't find any of it. - Infinite - talk 09:25, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

probably you're thinking of gw2:Category talk:Fishes. -Chieftain Alex 17:16, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
I was curious because some pages used both "Fish" and "Fishes" whereas other pages only use "Fish". Also, the category for them is Category:Fish, when other similar categories in Category:NPCs by type are plural and, as mentioned above by Alex, the GW2W category is also plural. --Silver Edge 20:51, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
My finest wiki-fu on display and all, too. Cheers, mate. - Infinite - talk 11:38, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Affiliation[edit]

Xunlai[edit]

Should the affiliation tag of Xunlai Archivist Argentum (and others) say Xunlai Guild instead of Xunlai, as was done with Zaishen? Also, congrats! ^_^ --Falconeye (talk) 20:10, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank you. I'm assuming the page is named Xunlai Guild because the dialogues of Xunlai Agent and Xunlai Agent Honlo mention "Xunlai guild", although "guild" is lowercase. While the dialogues of Xunlai Agent Momo, Kazuma, and Dizhou just call it "Xunlai". Because of this and all other guild pages in Category:NPC guilds don't have "guild" in their page name (except Obsidian Flame (guild) to disambiguate it from the skill), Xunlai Guild should probably be moved to Xunlai instead of changing the affiliation parameter on the Xunlai NPC pages. --Silver Edge 07:13, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

UI enhancements[edit]

Is it ok to reorganize UI enhancements by alpha and function (example: grouping all mods related to cartography, running, window-enchanements, ect.) --Falconeye (talk) 04:32, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

I'm not opposed to it being reorganized. --Silver Edge 05:48, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Cartography is now front and center (which I'd assume is #1 reason anyone links here). Feel free to tweak. Not sure where the "others" go, or if broad-range UIs (like Dark Glass) be "general". --Falconeye (talk) 07:25, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

EC[edit]

I did not think I'd ever get an edit conflict, these days. It actually caught me off guard. G R E E N E R 05:39, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

I beat you in answering the question? =P Your name was moved to inactive on the list of administrators, but it seems it's not currently the case (especially if you're getting into edit conflicts =P), so you can edit GWW:ADMINS if you'd like. How about them Canucks, eh? --Silver Edge 06:19, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
I don't get to see enough of them these days, for better or worse. With Rogers' stranglehold on the TV rights, and TSN buying out my favourite sports radio network (losing the play-by-play and colour guys), it's gotten difficult to even pay attention.
I've change my status; didn't like having to up-and-leave a few years back. Seems only basic clean-up is needed these days, here. G R E E N E R 08:55, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Welcome back! It works out for me since I have Rogers' basic cable package, which has Rogers Sportsnet and other Rogers channels but no TSN channels. But watching my Leafs can be agonizing most of the time. --Silver Edge 09:48, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

I found two more! Blue Totoro 14:25, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
They'll all be linked from hidden comments. e.g. something like
<!-- this item is available in curses attribute, see [[File:Amber Staff, Curses, dark damage.jpg]]. -->
example. -Chieftain Alex 20:00, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
Ah, thank you! It's too bad that the "What links here" tool isn't flawless and completely ideal. Thanks for adding the notes on those pages. Blue Totoro 20:15, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

Misunderstanding?[edit]

http://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Decade_Staff_%22Astral_Pillar%22&curid=306795&diff=2586006&oldid=2585886

I think this edit is based on some misunderstanding of the anon. S/he thought that each attribute of 9 will add another 11-22 damage, which isn't the case.

Have you actually tested the "anomaly" in game? Steve1 (talk) 10:05, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

I guess it's based on the fact that's how other multiple single-profession attribute items function. E.g. I don't have one, but I would think the additional energy from Canthan Targe would stack and provide energy +4 if a wielder has at least 8 Swordsmanship and 8 Axe Mastery. Hence why one would think the damage from the Decade spellcaster weapons would stack. --Silver Edge 10:17, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
I see your point.
But I'm glad ANet hasn't opened the door for AntipodeWay with low level Eles wanding their way thru low level content. ;)
So I'd say the items are working as intended. It's just that the item descriptions might be considered ambiguous. Steve1 (talk) 10:27, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

I think your second edit goes against the 1RR.

While I value all your hard work and cleaning up really highly, I'd like to see Admins set a certain standard. (I would've prefered to descreetly email you, but it doesn't seem to be set up)

Thanks, Steve1 (talk) 17:26, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

My account's "enable email from other users" option has always been enabled, so you can email me. I don't see GWW:1RR being violated: my first edit removed the Soul Bind note (that edit isn't a revert, since I'm not reverting anyone with that edit) and my second edit is a revert. Of those two edits, only one of them is a revert. --Silver Edge 06:13, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

During my editing hiatus, I did check RC almost on a daily basis for any vandalism that needs to be reverted or anything that required attention from an admin (e.g. persistent vandals or editing the AbuseFilter to allow a new account to be created), but the vandalism is usually already reverted and Greener has been going a great job dealing with the admin tasks before I even get to them. item renders[edit]

does that mean Category:NPC renders is also redundant? --Falconeye (talk) 21:23, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, I didn't realize Category:Item renders was a gallery. I've restored the category. Instead of manually categorizing all the pages in Category:ArenaNet item renders into both Category:ArenaNet item renders and Category:Item renders, I think {{ArenaNet image}} should be edited to auto-categorize pages with the parameter set to "item render" (e.g. {{ArenaNet image|item render}}) into both Category:ArenaNet item renders and Category:Item renders (which should also be done with Category:ArenaNet NPC renders and Category:NPC renders when the parameter is set to "npc render". --Silver Edge 08:41, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
Auto would be nice! User:Magamdy requested the new category.--Falconeye (talk) 11:42, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
This would definitly be useful, although I don't yet see exactly how it would work. Chicken 1.jpg Magamdy 10:57, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm not certain how to edit {{ArenaNet image}} so it will categorize a page into two categories instead one. I'll try and find someone who does know how. For now, use {{ArenaNet image|<parameter>}} instead of just {{ArenaNet image}}, replacing <parameter> with one of the appropriate parameters listed at Template:ArenaNet image (e.g. {{ArenaNet image|item render}} or {{ArenaNet image|npc render}}). Right now, using {{ArenaNet image|npc render}} categorizes the file into Category:ArenaNet NPC renders, but after {{ArenaNet image}} has been edited, {{ArenaNet image|npc render}} will categorize the file into both Category:ArenaNet NPC renders and Category:NPC renders. Thanks. --Silver Edge 22:22, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Why do we need two categories with identical content? Surely since they are images the gallery format makes more sense. (imo edit "Category:ArenaNet item renders" to use gallery format, and delete "Category:Item renders". -Chieftain Alex 22:12, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
should Category:NPC renders be deleted as well? --Falconeye (talk) 06:20, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm fine with deleting one and making the other a gallery. I think the only downside with a gallery is it cuts off part of the file name if it's too long. Yes, Category:NPC renders would be deleted too. Alex, can you run your bot to un-categorize the files out of Category:NPC renders if it gets deleted? --Silver Edge 08:03, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Yeah if we decide to delete "Item renders"/"NPC renders", I can run a robot no problem. -Chieftain Alex 09:19, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Are there any other "render topics" folks want to address while on subject? --Falconeye (talk) 11:12, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Difference between "Notes" & "Trivia"?[edit]

Hey, thank you for the section header name correction, just curious as to what the reasoning behind it is, and what the difference between "notes" and "trivia" is? I would imagine trivial information such as pet information to be listed under trivia. I took a look at NPC formatting, but it doesn't seem to really give much info as to what should be placed under each (example wise, etc.). The only thing I could see was here, where it says trivial information regarding the NPC name or concept should be placed under a trivia heading, whereas other useful, but not trivial information to be placed under a notes heading. Taking a look at some other articles as reference, they both just seem to be sections for further information. Just wanting some sort of consensus as to what sort of information should go under each for future reference and article formatting. Cheers! -- My Talk Lacky 16:33, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

Everyone will draw the line between the two in a slighlty different place (and sometimes stuff just ends up in the wrong section), but Notes are generally things you should definitely consider regarding a topic that don't fit in any other section (say, an interaction between skills that you wouldn't expect based on their descriptions) while Trivia are things that don't really affect the topic ("this quest is a reference to an old meme"). Many Notes on articles probably could be worked into the article proper (it seems odd to me now that the estimated vanquisher totals and quest influences were relegated to notes given they appear on every explorable area article). Toraen - talk 17:43, 31 March 2016
So by the sounds of it, things that are useful to know about a certain topic would be better off in notes, and things that aren't in trivia? Such as for example, a quest or a mission page where there's some information of how to best complete said quest or mission would be best placed in notes, where as information about the quest, like things it is based off and what-not is better suited for trivia. Would that be a fair judgement/assessment? -- My Talk Lacky 01:56, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, that would be. In your example, that information can instead be placed in the Walkthrough section. On a similar note (pardon the pun), the ranger Luxon Soldiers, which also appear in the Gyala Hatchery mission and share the same build as Endre, don't have pets. --Silver Edge 05:36, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Nice pun, I actually did notice that and found it quite odd. Thank you for the heads up and information too, by the way! :) -- My Talk Lacky 10:16, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Yep. To be fair, this time I had Steve's page open for a bit before I went to finalize the deletion, so it wasn't as shocking as the previous times. Still though... I considered it a second place finish on my part, and paid my penance. G R E E N E R 07:56, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
It's odd that I have yet to encounter an EC due to you editing/deleting a page. --Silver Edge 06:56, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Birthday Voucher[edit]

Not everyone uses common sense with the vouchers, why it must be clear what they are only used for. People in game have been trying to trade them with other players, etc. Not knowing that there's only one use for them. Not knowing that the boxes aren't trade-able. I don't think people read the description nor the collectors part to get the information needed or wanted. Hence, I was trying to be more clear for my fellow players in the alliance. It's the ampersand which is messing things up. You'll want to replace it with %26 like this. It's a pain that I recently came across on the GW2W. Not sure when it started, or if it's always been an issue. G R E E N E R 01:10, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
Created that new link. Should tagged the bugged on for deletion? --Falconeye (talk) 04:27, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
Painfully, I can't seem to delete it. I'll play a bit more, or see if I can delete it tomorrow somehow without having it default to your other page. I may have to do some shuffling around of pages, so don't mind me. G R E E N E R 09:05, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
Found five more; ill deal with them in the morning --Falconeye (talk) 10:29, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Sysop rights cleanup[edit]

Hello, I appreciate you've been inactive for a fair while, but on the odd chance you've still got your talk page watchlisted/notifications enabled, I thought out of courtesy I would leave a message (admittedly I'm going to copy-paste the same message for all affected users). (1) We're going through a bit of a review of which inactive users have sysop rights (including reconfirmation), and (2) here's a link to yours: Guild Wars Wiki:Requests for adminship/Silver Edge. -Chieftain Alex 19:02, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Hey[edit]

It's good to "see" you. Hope everything's fine with you. :) Some folks have actually been worried something might've happened to you since you vanished so suddenly. Going to acquire your namesake?

All the best and take care, Steve1 (talk) 19:04, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi. Long time no "see". I'm good. I hope you're doing well. Sorry if my absence worried anyone. I vowed in 2016 not to return to the wiki until someone found my namesake (just kidding). I became busy with life and took a vacation from the wiki. Eventually it became a long hiatus. I haven't logged into the game in a while, so I haven't decided if I will go get the sword.
Take care and happy editing! --Silver Edge 06:57, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
I'm not too shabby, thanks. Understood. Just glad it wasn't anything serious. I haven't gotten my SE either and also unsure if I ever will. I'm planning to participate in the Anniversary Celebration a bit. But besides that I haven't really played in years either. I got myself a Proof of Triumph just to be on the safe side but haven't bothered with those new elite skills. All the best, Steve1 (talk) 16:15, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
Coincidentally, I did the same thing with the Proof of Triumph. I hadn't logged into the game in years, but the last time I logged in was to get the Proof of Triumph in last year's Anniversary Celebration, but I haven't captured any of its related elite skills. --Silver Edge 22:38, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Thank you. The discovery of the weapon was a nice surprise. --Silver Edge 22:38, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
