I believe that every class (caster, ranged and Melee) should gain the option to create cloth, hide and iron armor. Here are some examples:
Cloth:
- Energy Regeneration: +1 (4 pips)
- Armor Rating: -10 (60 Armor)
- Movement Speed: +10% (Faster)
Hide:
- Energy Regeneration: Default (3 pips)
- Armor Rating: Default (70 Armor)
- Movement Speed: Default (Normal Speed)
Iron:
- Energy Regeneration: -1 (2 pips)
- Armor Rating: +10 (80 Armor)
- Movement Speed: -10% (Slower)
- Why this is a good idea
- Creates more of a versatility per class.
- Gives some vulnerable classes the chance to have innate defense.
- Allows for interesting strategic combinations.
- Better application towards tanking/nuking builds
- I like it, but, iron is NOT the only metal in Guild Wars. Think steel. Think copper. think Adamentium.
- Why it may not work out
- Some may find way to abuse the system to become near invincible.
- This idea may be limited to those who are wearing a full set of that said material, so bonuses can't be combined.
- In other words, in order to have the Armor/Movement/Energy Bonuses/Penalties, one would have to wear a Cloth set, or Hide, etc.
- Above everything, the movement speed is greatly unfair and would be incredibly hard to balance out for PvP. If says monks who use Cloth move 20% faster than say Warriors with Iron, the Warriors will never catch up add a few basic skills and the monk won't die.
- It will also add a tendency to stay away from certain classes for PvP as they are not equal.
- I dont think the different material should affect capacities. It should be more something in the range of look and style. A tank can have different materials that all give same kind of bonus, etc. This would limit the armor choices too. If someone likes iron but doesnt like the bonuses, well hes limited in his choices.
