Kill and damage type minigame (Discussion)
It would be fun to include a minigame which periodically rewards the character for completing a number of in-game goals. For instance killing a certain number of a certain monster type, killing a certain number of monsters with a particular type of damage, picking up loot of a certain type. The rewards could be reputation points, random loot, consumables.
An example of this in another game is Hellgate: London. A player is given three goals represented by 3 icons with numbers over them on the HUD. These count down as the player kills a monster or picks up some loot. When all are completed a random drop of loot occurs and the game resets with new goals and you start over. The goals are retained over instances.
- Why this is a good idea
- It is a fun addition adding interest to picking up even dull loot.
- Encourages users to change weapons or pick different skills in PvE to try to complete the goals.
- Why it may not work out
- The loot mechanism is well suited to Hellgate but may not translate well to Guild Wars.
- How to determine kill counts in a group? How to determine damage type of the killing blow? There is complexity here which might be difficult to implement.
- Would this work for individuals or as a team? A monk for instance when monking for a team wouldn't directly kill anything.
