Seasons and Migration (Discussion)

A compilation of suggestions relating to Seasons and Migration

1. Make it so that the world progresses in different seasons - as the season changes, certain creatures/races can migrate to other parts of the world. Here is a list of suggestions that explain how this can be implemented:

  • Have parts of the world divided into seasons, where one area would be winter and the other become summer - with frequent rotation.
  • Base the season on the power of its corresponding God. If Melandru is strong then a large part of the world could become spring. Can work like borders.

2. Each season should have an effect on its world - aside from a visual appearance. Give characters/monsters a seasonal preference (or choose a god that can bestow special effects based on season)

3. have lots of quests etc that may be only available when a area is in a certain season like the current seasonal festivals (dragons festival / hallows eve / winters day) but instead of only 3 days a year have it for the entire season like say kryta is in winter and there's quests relating to winter season like towns being flooded etc or in summer where you have to work on the harvests etc that the area is in.

Why this is a good idea
  •   You wont see the same monsters in the same area all the time
  •   Expands on favor of the gods
  •   Gives players a reason to play and a reason to also go back to a certain area they would otherwise never return to as theirs a entire brand new quest line for them to do and explore.
  •   Maybe make new pets that migrate.
  •   Mixes the run of the zone build up between seasons so different builds will be better in the area in different seasons.
Why it may not work out
  •   A very, very large alteration to the game.
  •   Some players may feel restricted to locations if they know that they aren't going to be as effective in an area.
  •   Problems with quests. Having to kill a bunch of centaurs with your lvl 10 monk who have just migrated to the Mouth of all Evil....ouch.
