Character Attribute Point Allocation (Discussion)
The system I speak of is relative to that of the Everquest games, where one can allocate points into different character attributes, such as; Strength (increases attack power and defense), dexterity (increases critical hit ration with attacks), intelligence (increases damage dealt by magic attacks and total energy/mana), agility (increases attack power), etc.. However, these points should NOT be able to be reallocated (BROUGHT UP IN DISCUSSION: possibly able to be altered with some form of work, like the original refund points GW used for skill points. Fair balance without letting you become overpowered in an instant), as they are your characters physical and mental make-up. This would be paired along side the system already in use, the skill point system. (edited by original author)
- Why this is a good idea
- Increased character personalization. It would greatly reduce cookie-cutter builds and weaken overall gameplay by allowing players to think further "out of the box." (Such as possibly tanking assassins with a skilled player.)
- Adds a new need for character slots. Separate attribute and skill allocation would vary gameplay from character to character, allowing any single player to use several alike characters with new experiences, like; owning one warrior with powerful physical attacks and another warrior with stronger spell casting, allowing him to heal himself better, perhaps.
- Why it may not work out
- Would make characters useless after balance changes, leaving players with the choice to either delete a character they may have grown fond of, or effectively lose a character slot. (Refer to edit :))
- This concept isn't completely newbie-friendly. It would, indeed, demand more of a new player and may end up driving some away due to complexity... Unless a detail tutorial is given, one that a player may actually use, by request. =IRRELEVANT: And such a tutorial would be controversial in itself, as there is no agreement on what is a good build.=
- A nice idea but if points could not be relocated it would almost be easier to delete the character than change the build.
