The Charr Altar is the place where Prince Rurik's beloved Lady Althea had been immolated by the Charr. During the quest Althea's Ashes, you have to use it to obtain an Urn of Althea's Ashes in order to finish the quest.

Two can also be found near the altar holding the Cauldron of Cataclysm in pre-Searing Ascalon. Their use is unknown.
