Chat filter[edit]
Can we please get a better tutorial on how to use the chat filter .ini thing? Like a template with proper syntax for adding stuff and what it can and can't do? (Fingers crossed for adding known rmt character spammers to a giant .ini iggy list so in game one can be used for temporary iggys) Durp da durp (talk) 15:57, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
- Yes I agree a bit more info would be nice, unless in doing so, would tip off the "marketers/gold-spammers". For the 'syntax' - In a text file - syntax / format is thus:
[ChatFilter]
userFilter1=Censor
userFilter2=Suppress
Be sure to save the filename as - ChatFilter.ini and placed right inside your “C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Guild Wars” folder. My guess as to "Censor" and "Suppress" is to automatically block the gold sellers in your chat window. TikkaLeFem (talk) 03:54, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
- The reddit link has someone posting about trying wts=Censor as a test. I'm guessing the censor would change all 'wts' occurences to '***' and it only works if the chat filter is not turned off. I'm guessing using wts=Suppress would hide any chat msg with 'wts' (kinda like spam supression). I'm not sure if suppression needs chat filted on too? I'm sure I'm dreaming about using character names since it probably only checks msg text not the character name saying it, besides, the list of names would get HUGE since the sellers swap characters so much now (or hide in offline). I suppose I probably could've just tried it and figured it out for myself by now but I'm pretty lazy. Oh, one other question, is it case sensitive for the filter text?Durp da durp (talk) 17:56, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- ChatFilter.ini works best if encoding is set to utf-16 LE in windows 10 (DO NOT!!! use UTF-16 BE encoding, it WILL CRASH GW!){also, maybe mentioning this new feature would be good for new players, and a write up on how to do it. I would but it would come across as semmi-dyslexic rambling} Durp da durp (talk) 21:57, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]
Thanks for the update and for still maintaining GW1 <3 Wyverex (talk) 05:17, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks but instead of faffing around with graphics I wish they would do something useful like preventing mobs from killing npcs in Divinity Coast mission before I get into radar range.
Chatfilter How-To Link[edit]
Here is the link to a comprehensive article to block the 'sellers' [1]. - Be sure to save as "ChatFilter.ini" not as a "txt" file; also UTF16 LE encoding. Tikka LeFem talk (talk) 05:47, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- I have that thread linked on the talk page of the "what's new in gw" article too, it is updated with new rules by the OP ;P . Also, kevin the admin from gw legacy made an ini file generation tool and a rule list hosted on github that people can submit to. I personally have not used the file tool, but the list is open to see. Honestly, the pre site list is shorter, and no sellers get thru, but length doesn't really matter for it since its only a few kb text file. Here's a post from kevin on legacy with links to his tool and list. https://guildwarslegacy.com/forum/thread/2956-chat-filter-filter-out-gold-spammers/?postID=133663#post133663 Making it yourself with either list is safest, but i doubt Kevin's tool has any nefarious code.Durp da durp (talk) 21:46, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for the info. Sure beats seeing the spam sellers. Tikka LeFem talk (talk) 22:52, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
