Remove the restriction altogether[edit]

"For storyline purposes, continue to require particular heroes until a Character has obtained Protector and Guardian titles." Alternative (and better): Remove the requirement for everyone, the hero needed for the mission becomes a party NPC who auto-resurrects like in Nightfall, and any hero brought by players that is the hero required for the mission gets their duplicate name. Less work, better result, has been done before. -- Konig/talk 04:23, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Honestly, I like that better, too. It just seems to me that ANet prefers some restrictions, rather than none...so I thought... eh, nvm, your suggestion is better.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:29, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Waste of an update[edit]

Do not poke it. This is so good as it is. We would be more happy, if we got more important update not like this. With 7 hero no problem if u must use 1 hero in Nightfall. Ladislau 16:20, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

It's a problem if you want to take 8 players.
However, perhaps you are right that it's not that big a deal to be a 6+1 Hero party instead of a 7H team. Or, at least, that there are other, more useful changes that ANet could work on for the same amount of developer time. Thanks for your comments.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:43, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
This would be a waste of an update... if it came alone. True, it's less of an annoyance now, but if anet wanted people to party up more (which they do - or rather, they want those who want to pug have an easier time), this would be helpful, but it shouldn't be the only change done. -- Konig/talk 17:16, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

However I agree with the suggestion, not because I want to make a 8 players party, but just because I really hate to be forced to add a hero, thats why I ended hating Koss and dunkoro xd--Batousai 23:01, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Once is Enough[edit]

I can see how storyline development requires a specific hero for a mission or quest, but once you have completed a mission, shouldn't that restriction be removed? This creates issues for players in situations such as the Consulate Docks mission (Koss is not available until you complete a series of quests), and said player wishes to do the Chahbek Village (Zaishen Quest). The AI should check to see if the party members have all completed the mission (and bonuses) and then remove the requirement if all party members have completed them. I know as a monk not set up for smiting will have a much harder time doing missions (with only henchies & heroes) regardless, and to force them to have to bring another monk is a big deterrent to allowing a player to develop as a competent healer...and that isn't good for the longevity of the game. And that's how ANet handles heroes in EotN: if you have completed the relevant pre-requisites, the game supplies a hero for you and renames any hero(es) in your party to avoid any possible confusion. Unfortunately, while the idea for this is simple, I suspect it would take a fair amount of coding and a lot of testing to make sure this works. That is: it's a high-cost change, with a narrow benefit. They should have coded the game like this in the first place, but since they didn't, we're probably stuck with this until they decommission the server.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:26, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
