Candidate statement

I will accept. I'm not much of a public speaker, but here goes.

I started contributing to the wiki on a lowly IP account, here. It was after a few months of working on this IP that I figured I should have a true account, to better contribute to the wiki.Though in truth, I've been thinking about an RFA for a while now, but it suprised me when DominatorMatrix nominated me. I will start by saying that I have very little experience when it comes to moderating a board such as this. While my contributions are somewhat sparse, I have been known by some people to actively patrol the RC list and my watchlist for hours of end, watching for vandalism and the like. In terms of talk and discussion, I keep a cool head and listen to each and every point of view. However, I will freely admit that I have made mistakes in the past. (mainly losing temper and the like). However, I try to learn from those mistakes to better help the wiki and its occupants. Also, While I'm not a mass editor like many others, I am there to help when the need arises. I feel that with the sysop tools, I can do the same thing. Be a helper to the community by doing what I do.

1. Support I feel that Wandering Traveler would make a great sysop. He is calm, mature, and has great trouble shooting skills. Plus he has been a editor for a while now. He is willing to learn, and he is trustworthy to be a sysop. Dominator Matrix 05:52, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Oppose

1. Oppose -- I think that WT could make a good admin someday, but not now. I think the postion might be a bit of a strain on him to begin with and that he is not quite prepared for it yet. I think it is possible in the future, but not at this time :) --Shadowphoenix 05:37, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
2. Oppose. While I feel that Wandering Traveler is a good person and editor, I do not think that he is quite ready for the Sysop job. I would like to see Wandering Traveler as a good contributor for now. You've been on the wiki for about 5 months now, don't rush anything. =) --People of Antioch 05:39, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
3. Oppose. I doubt he would misuse the sysop tools and the effects that come with sysoption; however, I cannot put my complete faith in him to use them appropriately and make the best (or closest to such) decisons. I think he sometimes misunderstands or overreacts in situations. He could probably enforce policy to the word, block vandals when needed and delete pages, but that's not saying much -- it's his discretion that I do not feel comfortable with. Watching for vandalism, browsing recent changes and being glued to your watchlist are all well and good, but it's not everything I look for in a sysop. -- Brains12 \ talk 15:16, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

2. I share Brains's sentiments for the most part, although I feel more neutral than opposed. This reminds me a lot of how I felt about PoA's RfA... Calor 15:32, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
3. I too share Brain's view on this RFA but as Calor I feel more neutral than opposed. However as the opposed say I think he needs more time as a normal contributor before becoming a sysop as I'm not sure he is ready for the extra responsibilities that come with being a sysop. --Kakarot 13:52, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

5. At this point in time I am going to stay neutral. I think that Traveler has learned a lot in his time here already, about policies, and how the wiki runs and how a good sysop functions. I would just like to see him interact in a community fashion more than just reverting vandals. So far many of his attempts at intervention have gone awry, not out of intention, but rather lack of objectiveness. I do think he has the best interests of the wiki in mind when he does things, he just needs to stop and think them through a bit first. -- Wyn 07:36, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
