Maybe I am misinterpreting the policies, but I'm pretty sure you retain sysop status even if elected to bureaucrat. You are only expected to exercise a bit more restraint. Vili 点 03:07, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Bureaucrats are basically limited to use sysop tools only under times when they are needed and there are no sysops around, but they can delete pages any time they wish. "Bureaucrats may only use sysop powers to deal with an ongoing situation and if no normal sysop is available. Additionally, they may delete pages at any time in accordance with the deletion policy. Bureaucrats are only allowed to block in emergencies, specifically for edits that impair the ability of users to access wiki content, such as vandalism." — Gares 19:06, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
