Spot heal

A spot heal is a term used to refer to a healing skill that targets allies, is energy efficient, has a low recharge, and heals for a relatively large or sustainable amount. A spot heal, for all intents and purposes, can generally be considered a healer's main heal.

Concept[edit]

As damage is taken, it needs to be healed in order to avoid death. While every profession can carry a self-healing skill, often a team needs a dedicated healer instead.

Many healing skills have conditional requirements that augment their power. Healing skills that are considered to be a spot heal may also have these conditional requirements, yet they are able to be used effectively in a wide range of circumstances.

Example Skills[edit]

Word of Healing is a powerful healing skill, capable of healing 200+ health in a single cast. In addition, it has a low energy cost, short recharge, and quick casting speed. As mentioned prior, Word of Healing will only heal for its maximum amount if a conditional factor is met (the targeted ally must be below 50% health for the extra healing to trigger). However, if an ally is taking consistent damage, their health will eventually drop below 50% at some point, which means that this conditional requirement can always be met, and as such Word of Healing's reliability is constant.

Spirit Light is also a strong healing skill. Like Word of Healing, it meets the criteria of having a low energy cost, short recharge, and quick activation time. Unlike Word of Healing, Spirit Light will always heal for its maximum amount, but has instead a conditional health sacrifice. This sacrifice can be avoided if the caster is within earshot of a spirit. Due to the abundance of spirit summoning skills in PvE, this requirement is often very easy to meet.

When skills such as these are combined with the various forms of protection the game offers, allies can be efficiently saved from incoming attacks.
