Talk:Anniversary Sword "Prominence"

I am beginning to test the sword out and it appears that it directly benefits from sword mastery, but requires expertise of 9 for full damage. I was hoping critical and weapon strength would correlate with expertise but this doesn't seem to be the case. Has anyone else tested this out and had ideas? I thought it'd be great to have "melee attacks" rather than sword attacks, but they don't seem to be worthwhile damage outputs. I will test further and discuss.

My experience of the axe and hammer is much the same: it looks like the conventional weapon attribute for these has its usual effect on the damage scaling. Loggy (talk) 13:30, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
Yes, after testing I have confirmed through various sword mastery and expertise skill points. This is a shame as they lost a big chance for players to have a rather new experience (although I can see why they were hesitant as it was be rather unfair!). I have tested some builds with a small amount of sword mastery, and perhaps this is the main reason for this weapon - it is not about having 12 in sword mastery, but rather having a few points and being able to diversify for new melee options and putting more points in having a stronger animal companion. Perhaps together as one and never rampage alone (and I like run as one) would make for quite a deadly combination! Whirlwind attack doesn't scale with sword as well as sun and moon slash; however, unless you settle for high sword mastery the damage is not worthwhile (thus defeating the purpose of the sword!). Still testing - there must be another use like an interrupt beast master! Thoughts appreciated.
If for some reason, you wanted to attack in melee on a ranger without other attribute investment - such as the times I've wanted to use Apply Poison through the FA gates, this is still by far the best weapon in the game to do so with. But yes, I find myself doing that only once every several months... Loggy (talk) 14:53, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
Update after some testing - whirlwind, run as one, never rampage alone, comfort animal, and together as one is fun with a pet friend! As this takes up 5 skill spots leaving no pve skills, this leaves room for 3 other skills that I haven't quite figured out, such as gash/sever artery/sun moon slash or a beast mastery focused skill slot.

Beast Mastery[edit]

I was hoping that the ranger would get a weapon that scales with beast mastery instead since there is no weapon that does that. I get that they wanted to use the primary attributes, but to me this weapon seems completely worthless. --Gelbrekt (talk) 21:30, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
