Are rare pet and prestige value still accurate? I see these more than I see warthogs or dune lizards and the former is available in a starting area. The only pet I believe there is effort required to obtain is the Black Moa and even that isn't hard. Comparably the Black Moa and the Phoenix make you jump through hoops to get them yet they are probably two of the most common pets, aside form the PvP wolf in the game. I think we should change the "rare and prestige value" as I don't think it applies any more. A pet is as rare as the desire to have one seeing as obtaining any pet is easy provided you have the right expansion. 58.110.136.169 18:45, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Being in the Underworld makes Black Widows harder and more expensive to get then the Phoenix or Black Moa. - User HeWhoIsPale sig.PNG HeWhoIsPale 18:49, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
I was under the impression that taming a pet was free. Sure underworld requires a 1k entry but thats hardly expensive divided amoung a group. Harder? No way. I've done both and the Black Moa Bird is way harder as you need to complete a series of quests all over the Kurzick forest, which is a big area. Underworld simply requires you to get to one of the entry points and then find the spider, which is pretty simple. Dancing Gnome 12:10, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
The Black Moa just takes longer since you need to run around different zones, but it costs no money to enter Echovald and I imagine following the compass through a few 18-24 level mobs to talk to random NPCs is easier than whatever quest you need to complete to spawn black widows in the Underworld. To be honest I've never been in the Underworld, but that's because since I can't hench it, I don't feel like blowing a few hundred gold on the chance that a PUG is competent. - User HeWhoIsPale sig.PNG HeWhoIsPale 12:31, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
You don't just find Black Widows in the Underworld, you have to fight your way from the Labyrinth to one of the Grenth Monuments and then complete a quest for one to show up. The only reason Black Widows are relatively "common" is because of people who buy "Spider Runs" (sounds like an awesome disease) because they're lazy. I, personally, charmed my Dire Black Widow while in the Underworld with my Guild, and I consider Chef to be extremelly prestigious since I didn't pay anyone to do the legwork for me. And since Black Widows can be added to the Hall of Monuments, their status as prestige pets should stay. I <3 my spider <|:D --Cjad the Nord 06:45, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
The status of prestige is somewhat fortified by the Hall of Monuments now but the difficulty of getting one is still easy. Dancing Gnome 17:54, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Don't forget you're all looking at this from the angle of "elite" players, many, dare I say MOST casual players will never visit the Underworld in their entire history of playing Guild Wars, let alone go the Underworld and let alone then complete any quests there and then cap a spider. To them. To the rest of us who regularly farm UW for ectos or B/P FoW without breaking a sweat, then no, they're really nothing special, and of those rangers, many will have spiders --85.62.18.3 17:12, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Now that the Zaishen Menagerie is here, it's become way easier to get one of these spiders, I just added 4 animal statues to my HoM after just a few trips to that place, easy as a-b-c :D ~ Sanna 07:51, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
Taming the Black Moa is easy, just take basic run skills and run to a few npcs. Took like 10 minutes. -MaskeusUser Maskeus sig.jpeg 16:49, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, the worst pet to get is the Rainbow Phoenix, it's all grind (second worst is Moss Spider). The Black Moa, Black Widow, and Phoenix were all easy to get - I just H/H'd them on my warrior. -~=Ϛρѧякγ User Sparky, the Tainted guided sig.png (τѧιк) 17:10, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Reaper Quests[edit]

moved from Black Widow
Well? Does anyone know what "Reaper" quests are? *Starr* --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:24.113.43.72 .

They are listed on The Underworld page. --Valshia 19:58, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Spider Runs[edit]

I have spent quite a lot of time in ToA lately and I havn't seen a single Spider run in MONTHS. Do people still do them? I know guilds still do them for guildies sometimes, but is it still a commercial run on the scale of the Droknar's run? If not I think the comment could be removed. I will try asking for one in ToA over the next week, if I get responses I will leave it, otherwise I'm inclined to remove the comment as it would be dated and irrelevant now. Dancing Gnome 17:57, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

If you need one, I'm more than happy to give one. Catch me on my talk page. -elviondale (tahlk) 00:42, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm always on Guild Wars, I run them with my Monk and Ogden :P Anyone wants, I generally charge 15k and any ectos that drop are reserved for me. Add me to friends in game, my Monk is called "Yorkie For Girls". --Stokoe Talk 01:16, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
If anyone is reading this still and can give me a Spider run Pm me ingame. IGN is Abbadons preist 173.24.221.142 22:28, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Ok, scratch my last comment, sorry guys, I'm not spider-runner material anymore, too out of practise. --Stokoe Talk 20:46, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Spider run? Don't need anymore as you can DIY Take your 7 heroes and make sure you got Charm Animal equipped (with no pet) or the person who need it to have Charm Animal. Take the quest "Clear the Chamber" and go to the Grenth Monument and clear it. Reaper of the Labyrinth will appear, take the last quest; "Restoring Grenth's Monument". Go to Twin Serpent's Mountain. Destroy all along the way and clear to get to Reaper of the Twin Serpent Mountains - take "Demon Assassin" quest. Run down the hill and kill the Demon Assassin and you're about done. Pin your heroes down the hill and go up to charm the Black Widow Spider.

Thanks so much for the guide! I needed a Black Widow for my HoM, but I've never really done much UW, so I didn't even know where to start. -- Dimitrius Altana

Rumours[edit]

I've heard alot about Spiders from my bro and his 1337(¬.¬)mate that back in the day, before Factions etc, the Black Widow's attacks naturally caused Poison, is this true? I'm just curious :P Aerie swiftarrow 00:23, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

negative on that. They do not cause poison with each bite; however, they do deal piercing damage and can deal out poison with Poisonous Bite -elviondale (tahlk) 12:41, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Black Widows in Guild Wars dealing Poison was pretty much just a rumor. — Eloc 19:12, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

so depressing Q.Q[edit]

i cant find 1 spider run..the only person who was willing wanted to charge me 15k and i didnt have that...i wuz in a very good speed trapping group we were all going for the spider but sum idiot who didnt want 1 had to go and mess it up by accepting a 3 quests at once and made us all wipe bcuz he wanted to restart...all i want is a spider and not have to pay an arm, leg, and my kidney for it Fried chicken

15k is a reasonable price for a spider run, since my friends and I all got our for around that price... 76.171.59.206 21:45, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Like I mentioned earlier, I charge AT LEAST 15k for those runs, Normally, I ask for all ectos that drop too. If you reconsider, add "Yorkie For Girls" to friends and whisper me. --Stokoe Talk 01:18, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
OP; just do the first quest. It's easy, even with heroes. Clear the first chamber, take only the ghost quest (forgot the name), then go out and kill the illusionary weapon mesmers. Quick and easy quest, and you don't have to pay anyone :) -Auron 01:21, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
15k is a rip-off for such little effort. 145.94.74.23 14:47, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
15k is ridiculous. all your doing is farming. all the ectos and whatnot would be yours anyway. all it is is basically letting som1 leech while you farm ectos. besides that if you just join a UWSC guild for an hour or two chances are you can convince at least one of them to do it for free. not like they have anything else they enjoy doing on that game. >.> 68.166.219.88 16:41, 7 August 2009 (UTC)briar
I just ask people I know who sin farm UW if they will start runnin... I dont care for sins myself... I told my son he should take folks so I'll see if he starts to do it, might bring prices down... either the people charging 15k will stop runing or can trend down their prices to compete... Hero Team Builds?[edit]

I am trying to do this with heros and not getting too far. I tried Perma on me + monk + rit farm and derv. Also tried doing VWK rit on myself. Tips?

Spider walking. Something to add in notes. the spider must wear slippers as it leaves footprints on the ground when walking :)
