Talk:Brutal Mauling
I've heard that perhaps the reason for including this skill was to add an attack skill of some sort. I've heard from other players that the skill description in other languages mentions Bleeding, but doesn;t inflict it.Echovald Ranger 01:14, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
This is so stupid, REMOVE IT FROM THE GAME OR GIVE IT AN EFFECT OR SOMETHING! How hard can it be?! Dark Morphon(contribs) 10:04, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
think logical lol bear does more dmg but includes brutal mauling to bring its DPS back to normal that hard to figure out?
- it's pretty useful with chants --Blood Anthem 00:40, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- The problem is that the bear does NOT do more damage. This has been conclusively tested. However, as Blood Anthem said, it can be (slightly) useful with Anthem of Flame and Anthem of Weariness. Tain 00:42, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
For the first time today actually I saw a rangers bear in AB use this...I was rather surprised oO LunarEffect 14:50, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
- This blows, I thought only bears in pre-searing used this useless skill, but when I tamed a bear in the southern shiverpeaks, it has this skill too. It's sooo bad, I just got rid of my level 20 bear after finding out he used this skill. RIP Teddy. Hope Ministe Cho doesn't make you into a bearburger..... --ChristopherRodrigues 17:01, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- I was fighting a black bear in pre, when I noticed this skill goes right through Shielding hands. I need to test it a bit more, but this skill might ignore damage reducing enchantments such as Shielding Hands.--Ghostbuddy 19:44, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- So u were farming a bear on a 55 HP monk? xD Super Range Ranger Cow 10:56, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- Btw,doesn't this skill interupt or knockdown?cause it does stop charm animal in pre-searing.Super Range RangerCow 10:58, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- No, if this did an interrupt or knockdown, you'd see more Black Bears in PVP. Pre-searing bears use a skill called Breaking Charm, but can be tamed when using two people; one to lure, and one to capture. However, it's not as easy as it sounds. -- Luigi (T/C) 14:22, 31 July 2008 (UTC) (Forgot to login.)

Buff please? All this skill needs is a major reduction in activation time. I'd give it 2 seconds, or slightly longer than a normal pet attack. With nerfs to Anthem of Flame and such (now only affecting party members), it won't be easy to abuse this skill. Extra damage optional. Crazy Odin 22:37, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
This skill harms all adjacent NPCs[edit]
Any truth to this statement at all? If this attack really does have an area of effect then maybe bears aren't so useless after all. Silavor 14:11, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, I was just testing, but it didnt seem to hurt my Heroes when the Bear used the skill on me, we were all infront of it with melee weapons attacking it. I'm not sure if it works for PvE Enemies though, as I was testing in PvP Aerie 12:05, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Kay, I just tested it outside Kamadan (Churrhir Fields or w/e) and its Brutal Mauling didnt hit the 'Adjacent to Foe' target, when it was attacking the 'Practise Target' Aerie 21:17, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
I've also noticed something... When I use Feral Aggression, The Bear doesnt always use his Brutal Mauling... But whenever he attacks a new foe, he will start by using it, then never use it again. Aerie 11:25, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Should we.. perhaps remove that note until it is properly verified? Everytime i tried it, it didnt work.. unless it means like.. the bulls outside Shing Jea, they CAN be killed by traps and spells like Lava Font.. its quite hilarious XD Aerie 11:13, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Bleeding[edit]
You guys are free to believe me or not but I remember that in the betas of GW the bear was the only pet to inflict BLEEDING and it was likely caused by this attack. For some obscure reason they removed this from him (overall pet balance i guess). I'm affraid I have no screen-shots of this but I thought it would relieve those of you who can't sleep at night wondering what this does/may have done.
<3 who keep on wondering what this could do
- awesome thx for the info:) i always wondered why these sexy bears had brutal mauling :<78.20.153.111 10:55, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- That explains why they would have made them so hard to get in pre-searing, and only available far in the game. Although they really should have completely removed it. <>Sparky, the Tainted 00:50, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- any1 tested this with the simple thievery bug? it may actually do something - Wuhy 11:41, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- It still triggers paragon shouts so bears > other pets. --Super Igor flame my shove sin bar! 11:54, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

- If this is true, and bears used to use Brutal Mauling to inflict Bleeding, it explains why in some languages the skill description says "Beastly attack that will make the target bleed for 5 seconds." 68.40.113.146 05:05, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
PVP[edit]
Monster skills on pets, can they be used in PVP areas? Because I had a black bear in RA use Brutal Mauling,I thought that monster skills were used by NPC only.(69.139.13.97)
- Black Bear is the only pet that has an attack skill (being this skill). --JonTheMon 14:24, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Do u mean that black bear is the only pet in pvp that uses a monster skill?(69.139.13.97)
- Or any pet in the game, afaik. --JonTheMon 16:25, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Skills that can take advantage of it[edit]
- Crippling Anthem
- Song of Purification
- "Find Their Weakness!"
- Anthem of Disruption
- Anthem of Envy
- Anthem of Weariness
- Song of Concentration
- Zealous Anthem
-- Kirbman 20:08, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- Great list! Maybe it should be put on the front page? I loled at Song of Concentration- I think interrupting would be beneficial to the DPS ratio! XD 68.59.126.206 02:02, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

What's the actual point to this skill?[edit]
Seems like a skill that does nothing but make the Bear worse at killing things, and to play an animation. Maybe to scare new players while making the bear easier to kill? Counterbalancing the bear I guess?
Or the edge case of triggering on player skills like Shouts? 75.88.35.129 09:50, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Perhaps it was solely to make them charmable in pre... but then you have to debate why they have Breaking Charm in presearing too.Durp da durp (talk) 20:35, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
