Trivia/Quotes/Spoilers[edit]

Couple of references to shows and previous quests:

Character: Peter Griffin (Family Guy; Episode 14, Season 3): "Well, it's been a really nice party, but it looks like it's time for me to hit the old dusty trail.
Apep, Unending Night: The Joker (Batman: The Dark Knight): "The world deserves a better class of criminal, and we intend to give it to them. Who's with me!?
Justicar Jeremy: Entire "War in Kryta" Storyline
Lieutenant Naeem: "Chabek Village" mission, dubloon collectors, "Blacktide Den" mission
Graun Stonefury: Death of Dagnar Stoneplate, Duncan the Black, destruction of Sorrow's Furnace, "Crossing the Shiverpeaks"
Hermeck the Blade: Inquisitor Bauer (I sympathise most with this lout)

Although it is possible to kill just over half the foes when they start chasing you they do have overwhelming numbers so even though you can get a nice few drops it isn't worth trying to kill them all, on a side note i do believe it would be very possible with both a speed trapper and spirit spammer to get them as they ball up round the corners but alas it's solo mission only(could have been so much more fun with a duo) 188.28.88.169 05:33, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Another family guy reference is the small guy who wants to fight with you about it (Bryan boss on Family Guy). Lokheit 07:35, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Impossible quest! Must troll the stone summit, cannot stop it. Must troll them.... aaaaaaaaaaaaaar

Correction at 188: Jeremy references Prophecies (and his dialogue that does such only will if you completed it), and then there's also Leutenant Kao Li references Captain Quimang's death (and will always show). Each one except the Crimson Skull line at that point will only show if the character did the events mentioned (most likely triggered by a single mission or so each). Konig/talk 13:14, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
I didn't get Kao Li's line, are you sure he doesn't only tell it to Canthan characters ? 213.166.213.211 15:43, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
Maybe it's those who completed the quest/certain earlier missions? Did you do the Shing Jea missions and Quimang's Last Stand? Iirc, it was the first of the thug's comments, so it is easy to miss (especially if you start running right away). Konig/talk 15:49, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
I did all missions on Shing Jea, but the Quimang quest chain is only available to Canthan characters, so I guess Kao Li can only say it to them... 213.166.213.211 09:28, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
Would make sense if it was for Canthan PCs only. Wonder if the others' lines are changed if folks are Tyrian or Elonian. Konig/talk 12:06, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Dialogue[edit]

Corsairs:

Captain Ashim
"Be gone from here before I run you through!"
Commander Halim
"So what be your plans for your share of the plunder?"
⇒ "Three words, mate: rum, wenches, and more rum."
"Aye! I only hope the Imperial Guards don't give us too much trouble..."
⇒ "I'm just doing this once last job, then I'm out of the business!"
"Quitters never make the captain, mate."
⇒ "I think I hear a coin purse that needs snatching..."
Deckhand Haroun
"Arrrrrrrrrggh!"
Ensign Yamen
"You...rum...give me? *hic* Why? Who are you?"
Lieutenant Naeem
"What are you looking at, you banacle-covered dog?!"
⇒ "Ahoy, fellow buccaneer. This sure is an exciting mission, is it not?"
"You're no buccaneer! I'd be suprised if you ever stepped foot on a boat, you landlubber! Be gone!
⇒ "Just one more scurvy scallyway I'm going to have to share my booty with, from the looks of it! This better be as big as they claim!"
"Aye! I be thinkin' the same. But rumor has it we'll be rich men after this. I can't wait to get a look at those imperial vaults..."
⇒ "May the wind be at your back!"

Crimson Skull:

Captain Pei Wan
"I have no need to talk with the likes of you. Begone!"
First Mate Chi Lu
"I bet our ship is bigger than the Corsairs'...but why am I talking to you about it? Leave me be!"
Lieutenant Kao Li
"I don't know who these Elonian Corsairs think they are, but I promise you we are the fiercest pirates ever to plague the seas!"
⇒ "Yeah, I bet those Corsairs don't even have boats!"
"No boats? Then how do you suppose they got to our ISLAND? Please leave before I catch whatever made you such a fool!"
⇒ "You'll have your chance to prove your prowess in piracy soon!"
"Aye! And when we're done I'll raise the Crimson Skull Flag so high you'll be able to see it for miles around Kaineng Center!"
⇒ "May the wind be at your back!"

Peacekeepers:

Boris the Great
"Yeah, I'm short, wanna fight about it?"
⇒ "We should save our strength for our real enemies!"
"Yeah, you're right. If those Imperial Guards fight half as well as they dress themselves, this won't be an easy one..."
⇒ "Hey, it's not the size of the bandit, it's the passion of the slashin'!"
"Did you just rhyme at me? I hate rhymes! Especially ones that are motivating in nature!"
⇒ "Well you have fun down there..."
Gaven the Mender
"Do I look like someone you want to start idle chitchat with? If so, let me try to look a bit more menacing so you take a hint!"
Hermeck the Blade
"You give me gold, I stab people. People give me gold, I stab you. Get it?"
⇒ "And who's given you the gold this time?"
"Uh...well no one. Yet. They say that once the job's done, I can help myself to the royal "coughers" I don't know what sick kings have to do with getting paid though..."
⇒ "Not if I stab your first!"
"Ha! Ha ha ha! Look at you, you couldn't even stab a...thing that's really easy to stab! Yeah!"
⇒ "This intellectual conversation is too much for me right now, good-bye."
Lady Ulga
"Hmmm, look at all these eligible bachelors. The odds are in my favor tonight!"
⇒ "How could such a pretty young lady such as yourself still be single?"
"Oh, why thank you, I did just remove the hair from my wart...WAIT A MINUTE! I can tell when I'm being patronized! Be gone!"
⇒ "Yeah, and to think, soon they will all be rich to boot!"
"Oh, I hadn't even thought of that! I hope we pass the Marketplace on our way to battle; Momma needs a new bustier!"
⇒ "If you'll excuse me, I need to go vomit for a completely unrelated reason."
Tiny
"Mmmphh, ummph, foooom, issshuu!"

Stone Summit:

Brock Ironfist
"Are you for sale, or are you just wasting my time?"
Falnor Ebonhammer
"Get out of my way, you clumsy human! You nearly stepped on me!"
Graun Stonefury
"Things are looking up for the Stone Summit!"
⇒ "Don't you mean the Stone Summit is looking up? To everything? Get it? Because you're short!"
"The penalty for irritating me is death..."
⇒ "Things will surely improve for all of us once we're successful!"
"Indeed. Once the empire falls and those pesky Ministry of Purity fools are dealt with, we will have an endless supply of fresh slave labor!"
⇒ "I need to go. Good luck with that whole slave thing!"

White Mantle:

Abbot Byron
"You know, those Ministry of Purity folks seem alright to me. Under different circumstances, I could see our organizations having a fruitful relationship."
⇒ "I don't know... I never trust people who wear all white..."
"*cough*"
⇒ "Unfortunately for them, they stand in between us and destiny!"
"You speak the truth. I sure hope this city gets less...depressingly disgusting closer to Kaineng Center."
⇒ "I have something else to attend to."
Justiciar Diane
"Don't even think about robbing me you disgusting piece of filth!"
Justiciar Jeremy
"I can't believe I've sunk this low..."
⇒ "You mean risen so high! Yeah! Chaos! Anarchy! Whoooo!"
"Please leave before I catch something..."
⇒ "Desperate times call for desperate measures."
"You're absolutely right. We need funds if we hope to retake Kryta, and I've never been too fond of monarchies anyway! I'm sure this emperor is as detestable as that false Queen Salma anyway!"
⇒ "I need to speak with my men, farewell."
Watchman Francis
"I'm not here to make friends, please leave me alone."

Moved from main article - these go on the NPCs pages, which are not made atm. Konig/talk 16:58, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Speaking about dialogue, the page uses only Hermeck's line upon the player being discovered. I'm afraid I don't have my screenshots on this computer, but for example when you're a White Mantle, Justicar Jeremy goes "Why don't I know you soldier ? ... wait, you're an imposter !" or something like that. So maybe it should be noted that this line depends on your disguise. 195.132.194.45 22:51, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Trouble getting credit? Try dropping/retaking[edit]

If your quest log updates to say you succeeded, but you can't get credit, try dropping and then retaking the quest.

Background

I have a friend who was unable to get credit for the quest until he abandoned and retook it. Here are the circumstances:

  • The first visit, he used a maximum speed boost and triggered some but not all of the pop-ups. He did not get credit for the quest and the mobs caught up to him and killed him.
  • On a subsequent attempt, he retraced his approach, triggering all spawns. The quest log gave him credit, but he could not claim the reward.
  • All further attempts had the same results. In order to succeed, he had to drop the quest and retake it.

He believes that staying within range of the pursuers (maybe within aggro distance) is important. Another possibility is that you cannot veer off the correct retreat path (i.e. the pop-ups are are triggered solely within a narrow locus of coordinates).

I won't alter the current walkthrough until/unless others can repeat the circumstances and confirm the details. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:24, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

The timer to leave the quest - what I assume didn't trigger for your friend (and in turn, the update to get your reward) - is based on reaching an invisible area within the map, not mob triggering. I'll have to assume that what happened is that when your friend got to the place where said timer is triggered, he was going too fast/had some lag which caused the server to not register him going to that spot, thus did not hit the trigger.
I can confirm that staying within aggro distance is not necessary - I was nearly at a spirit range distance from foes first time I completed the quest. I also doubt that distance to enemies is at all relevant. The "narrow locus of coordinates" is possible, though I don't think Anet would make such a huge follow when instead of a point they could make a line for triggers (and most likely did). Konig/talk 17:43, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for posting your observations. I'm convinced something is wonky in the quest (i.e. it's not lag), but perhaps it's unlikely to be repeated. (I'm not inspired to spend 5 minutes listening to the same speech to try to break it.) I'm glad we can rule out proximity (and probably speed).
To clarify, the quest did update: he heard the sound and saw in the log that it was completed successfully. It was only when he tried to claim the reward that he even suspected that there was an issue. I think your idea of a line trigger is plausible, but ...even those sometimes are placed with enough room to get skipped (and that would explain what he saw). What's unexplained is why his log updated in-zone...nor why repeat attempts didn't change anything else...until he dropped/retook the quest.
I hope that it doesn't happen to someone else, but if it does, at least we know of a solid work-around (drop and retake the Q). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:18, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
I wouldn't rule out speed at all - I was going 33% speed in NM constantly. If he was bringing Dash+Dwarven Stability, for instance, then he could have been going too fast for the game to register.
Don't know why it would say the quest is completed without him being able to turn it in though. If he saw "Return to Guardsman Qao Lin for your reward" in the objectives, then the trigger would have been registered - so all I could think of would be a bug, in which case we'll need to test to reproduce it, or wait for it to be brought up again before we can consider it being more than a one-time lag bug (e.g., server registration).
The repeat I can assume on what happened - if he did get the objective update, then the server probably registered the instance objectives as complete, but wouldn't register it as ready to turn it in. In turn, this would mean that even if he repeated the quest infinitely without abandoning it, it would never work because the trigger to tell the game "hey, he can turn it in now!" has already been skipped and thus won't be re-registered (in layman's terms: he didn't fail the quest so his quest log won't reset, therefore he had to force-reset it (aka abandon)). Konig/talk 11:48, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
I was chaining dash and dwarf stability on my first two runs through this quest, I had no problems. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 18:54, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
My friend is a natural tester (his style of play for quests — and mine — often leads to encountering border conditions that developers (correctly) never thought to consider).
He didn't save any screen shots, so we can't test Konig's theory (instance objectives completed, but quest flag not set), but it is consistent with what was happening. So, for now, it makes sense to post nothing in the main article. I suspect (hope) that no one else will encounter this. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:52, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

This Quest[edit]

It's great--I really love it XD --99.100.7.163 02:55, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Indeed, and it looks like we need to find a shrink for the Stone Summit, he seems to be really obsessed with the trespassing. --Kilaa1000 22:54, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Intermediate Dialogue Verification[edit]

I have no verification for any of these, and no way to do so as all of my characters have completed every campaign, but non-factions characters who can't do Quimang's Last Stand don't get the Crimson Skull dialogue. I used my main character (prophecies char) that has completed every quest in the game (that I had access to), and I did not get this dialogue. So, that's semi-verification of that. However, I did not add these requirements to the page, I simply repositioned them for clarity. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 17:58, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

I know you didn't add the requirements (I did, in generalizing the requirement); what I meant in reference to you was the removing of the section-stub tag which was placed there primarily because the requirements were not precise. Konig/talk 19:22, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Speed Boost[edit]

I'm not sure why you would use this. I didn't use any form of speed boost to finish this. I did get 1 or 2 hits by a ranged mob on HM. But not even close to enough damage to kill me. --Kilaa1000 22:56, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Stone Summit[edit]

There is a Missing Dialog By the stone summit Graun Stonefury says - <Player Name> killed our leader, slaughtered hundrededs of my kin, disrupted our mining facility, and TRESSPASSED ON OUR LAND This Happened cause I did Sorrows furnace or slavers exile--User:Ickoization 09:11, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Ickoization

from the article:

If Prophecies has been completed:

Graun Stonefury: "<Player name> killed our leader, slaughtered hundreds of my kin, disrupted our mining facility, and TRESPASSED ON OUR LAND!"
we've already got this bit. Chieftain Alex 11:24, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
