Talk:Charm Animal
With the new nerf of pets in PvP (Death Penalty OR Skill Recharge Penalty is fine, but both is just too much in my humble opinion) I have a suggestion to alter this skill slightly to make non-pure beast masters a bit more viable:
Add the following (or something like it): If your pet is dead, you can use this skill to resurrect it at "level of beastmastery" % health.
This will allow players to bring pets and not have to spend at least 2 skills to make it usable, but it won't be overpowered because of it's lack of efectiveness compared to other, better resurrection skills (pure Beast Masters would probably take Comfort Animal as well, but Marksmen might bring just this one skill, with minimal investment in Beast Mastery). --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nicky Silverstar 16:24, 25 May 2007 (UTC) .
- Ok, I guess I am the only one that thinks it matters. How about a PvE-only skill that works as a Charm Animal and a Pet-Resurrect? Pets are just as much fun to have around as minipets are.145.94.74.23 08:49, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- I love that suggestion, it would make companionship useable too. Barkingllama 23:19, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- cough* *COUGH* and what the feck would happen to the ELITE heal as one?Oni 15:26, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- I don't understand what you mean. This would be a 10 second res. Heal As One would be way more powerful. 145.94.74.23 10:04, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
concise description[edit]

Can you have multiple animals under one "charm animal" or just the one?!
Activation[edit]
Knock takes way longer to activate so I changed the notes to reflect that -- Broodling 21:25, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Wishful Thinking[edit]
Am I the only one annoyed that to be a viable beast master, you need two skills slots just to keep your pet alive and viable? A small list of things I'd love to see (but doubt we'll get):
1) Rangers having more than one pet
- In this scenario Charm Animal can be used more than once. Either based on your Beast Mastery skill (one pet per 3 levels?) or by being allowed to equip Charm Animal more than once, and charming one animal per slot used. The skills would then activate for all pets when you select one, giving them all a 'charge' or 'heal'.
2) Charm Animal also Heals
- I'm annoyed that you need Charm Animal and Comfort Animal just to have your pet be worthwhile. Comfort Animal makes for a good 'rez' signet for animals, but allow Charm Animal to do something beyond just letting you have your pet. If #1 is used, then Comfort Animal would heal all pets you own, or rez all pets you have out, which I think is do-able, and in which case Charm Animal is fine as-is (since what it does is give you access to a number of pets)
Just some wishful thinking.

Skills that Target Self[edit]
Why is this skill listed under this category when this you have to target something ELSE when using it.64.180.160.235 05:31, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
PvP characters[edit]
"PvP-only characters who equip this skill will always get an Elder Wolf when entering combat areas. PvP characters cannot change their pet types or evolutions. "
Ups, now they can. Say hello to lots of level 5 flamingos in RA. Though a variety of pets in itself is good.--Gah Eat my uber regen. 16:32, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

New Buff[edit]
With the new buff, Your pet comes with you in PvE without the skill. the page and skill should update to show this, (maybe with a PvE-PvP split? Thrain Talk 17:15, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Monster versions[edit]
I am beginning to reckon that every foe with charm animal in pve actually has a different version. e.g. no activation time on hecket, 1/4 sec yeti and instand again on the boss in magmus stones. Another interesting find is that after the hecket have been killed by heroes out of compass range, their pets are already red and charmed - but unagressive - and disappear with the corpse of the beastmaster hecket.--File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 22:09, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
PvE Buff[edit]
Anyone else like to see this get a PvE buff? As of now there is absolutly no reason to bring this with "Comfort Animal" and "Heal As One". I suggest that with this skill in your skillbar it provide an immediate benefical effect to your pet, such as increasing damage, bonus to armour, etc.--Johnny7 15:53, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
- Well, you kinda need this skill to Charm Animals. Comfort and Heal As One don't do that. --RIDDLE 06:12, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Release pet?[edit]
"One way to release a charmed animal is to talk to one of the many pet tamers throughout the many explorable areas." Are there any other ways? --Kristofferus 17:11, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Charm Ally[edit]
i was under the impression that the 1st note in the notes section of the main page was correct. but for the life of me i cannot figure out what it means/how to do it. I logged into two accts, a non ranger mesmer has a charmed wolf, a mesmer ranger shows wolf as an ally. by 'sending' the wolf to a target, the 1st character can back off to extreme range and the 2nd char the mes/ranger remains at close. he casts charm animal, no error message generated like '007', just invalid target. So i ask how can you charm allied animal, or is notes section incorrect and need editing? --H2L
- The notes also say that you cannot charm an already charmed animal. Usually in GW skills target either allies or foes, but not both. Charm Animal is one of the exceptions. A few animals spawn as allies (chartreuse green name) instead as 'neutral foes'(when they have a green name but are actually foes) or 'foes'(when they have a red name). That is, they will not turn hostile when you try to charm them, like the Jingle Moa and Bear outside the Eye of the North. That is what it means being able to target "friend and foe". Charmable Animals Level[edit]
Has anyone noticed any consistency with the animals that do not turn hostile when you charm them? i.e. the Wolves outside of Longeye's Ledge. 69.183.26.189 21:21, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
