Quest info[edit]

Hey wiki people! I wanted to give you some info to help make making this page a bit easier:

Overview/Getting to the battle.

This format is an epic snowball fight between the gods. Balthazar has joined forces with Grenth and Melandru has joined forces with Dwayna to make this a 2v2 fight. Players need to speak with the special NPCs in either Lion’s Arch or Kamadan to get the “quest” added to their log. This is not a quest in the true form as it cannot be turned in; this is simply there to direct players to Temple of the Ages or the Chantry of Secrets to enter the battle.

Once they have the “quest” they can /kneel in front of either the statue of Balthazar or the Statue of Melandru in the Temple of the Ages or Chantry of Secrets. The NPC that pops up will send you to their respective side of the battle. Players can fight for either Melandru or Balthazar. Choosing one does not make it impossible for you to go back later and do the other, and both are repeatable as many times as you want to do them.

Inside the battle, you are attempting to fight your way to and destroy the opposing god’s Beacons. Which I will explain below…

Mechanics

Each god has a Beacon that spawns monsters every 30 seconds. These monsters charge towards the two opposing gods’ statues, engaging any hostile NPCs/players they encounter along the way.

Champions In addition to these spawned forces, each god also has 4 “Champions” that are extremely powerful, stationary monsters that stand on the path leading towards their gods’ beacon. In addition to doing a ton of damage, these Champions also grant a special, non-removable buff to their respective Beacon. For each Champion alive, the respective beacon gets +3 health regeneration and 10 damage reduction. Which means if all 4 Champions are still alive, their respective beacon has +12 health regeneration (capped at +10) and 40 damage reduction, making it very hard to kill them.

Note: The damage reduction is actually a "heal on hit." So for each champion alive, every time the beacon takes damage they are healed for 10.

Generals The two opposing Beacons also spawn Generals every few spawns. (In Normal Mode, 1 every 6 mobs in Hard Mode, 1 every 4 mobs) These Generals are slightly weaker versions of Champions that are not stationary—they will charge towards your beacons along with the rest of the Beacon-spawned army. Unlike Champions, they do not give any buff to the Beacons; they just march towards your base and kill a bunch of stuff along the way.

Note: Only enemy beacons summon generals. These exist to balance the fact that your team has 8 humans on it, so friendly Beacons do not spawn generals. If anyone asks, you can make them feel special by saying they are the generals of their chosen god!

If we were generals we'd have Ultra Snowball

Beacons Beacons are stationary and do not attack. They have a large amount of health and, as stated above, will receive a passive buff from any Champions of their particular god that are still alive. Destroying a Beacon prevents forces from that associated god from spawning for the remainder of the battle. In addition, any forces of yours who would normally charge towards the now-dead beacon will be diverted to the remaining enemy beacon, doubling the number of NPCs charging towards that beacon. Destroying both beacons is the goal of both teams, and serves as the victory/defeat condition.

Objectives and Rewards

The primary objective for this quest is to kill the two opposing beacons. Doing so prior to your beacons falling will give you the “base reward” for either Normal Mode or Hard Mode, depending on which you are in. In addition to this, we have a number of bonus objectives that will give you additional rewards. Here is a table breaking down how rewards are distributed:

Normal Mode Base Victory reward 5 Wintersday Gifts, 5000 xp, 500gold, 5 Frosty Tonics

Hard Mode Base Victory Reward 10 Wintersday Gifts, 7500 xp, 750gold, 10 Frosty Tonics

Destroy all enemy Champions +5 gifts, +5 Tonics

Complete in <10min +5 gifts, +5 Tonics

Complete in 10-20min +3 gifts, +3 Tonics

Complete in 20-30min +1 gift, +1 Tonic

Enjoy!

DotA. ThrainFile:User Thrain Sig.pngcontribs 00:17, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

yep, I was having massive trouble doing it under 10 minutes...then I realised it wasn't a solo quest =D --SilvenUser Silven sig.jpg 01:01, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Same, bring friends/heroes, it's much easier. Now we only need a PvP mode... -- Arduin talk 01:07, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
20 tonics and 20 pressies --SilvenUser Silven sig.jpg 01:28, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
In HM: Bring 2 a mixture of either eles and rangers for your heroes, 2 warrior hench, 1 ranger hench, 1 ele hench. Use the sides of the map to avoid enemy groups and you can do it in 8-9 minutes without other people. Works for both sides =D --SilvenUser Silven sig.jpg 01:33, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Indeed. Also: HoN. 66.68.94.178 08:01, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Maybe add trivia about DotA? I'm honestly afraid of editing... --Toroquin User Toroquin Toro icon.png 13:57, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Make Bug Note?[edit]

My heroes/henchies keep getting stuck at the rez point. Should this be noted as a bug?180.7.25.222 14:30, 17 December 2010 (UTC)Ryoko

May be a Random Buug then, my H/H were ok.MystiLefemEle 13:02, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Glitch?[edit]

I killed all the opposing champions, I could see it on my mini map that there were none left, and I did not get the bonus. FrogKnight87 19:01, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

There are a number of champions that aren't marked on the minimap. If you take the back route between the two shrines you will encounter about a half-dozen of them. Kill those too and you should have the bonus. Lojiin 19:47, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
When I did this, those back route enemies were generals, not champions. Killing the marked champions on the map completed the bonus objective for me.76.120.156.92 04:19, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

anybody do this one?[edit]

I never see any one in TOA looking for a group for it, only for Operation: Crush Spirits. Ramei Arashi 21:09, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Melendru is a lie, just ask the searing survivors. --NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon6.png 21:10, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
I did notice Melendru didn't do much for Melendru Stalker's. Ramei Arashi 21:42, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
it's because operation crush spirits is easily farmable in under 5 mins for tonics, presents and gold99.249.133.100 16:36, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
After 6 stacks I simply cannot stand any more of bug infested Crush Spirits. Far from making me merry it's making me angry. I quit. Dont have the stomach to try this one though. Ramei Arashi 19:43, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Most fun quest ever[edit]

It's so tactical and unique.

I loved it. It was well done and really fun. I also liked how you had allies you wouldn't expect to see as allies, like those Storm Jacarandas. That's also what added to the uniqueness.

Most fun quest I've ever done. I've had the misfortune of discovering it on January 1st though...one day before the end of the festivities.

So can we still do the quest even after the event ends? Or is Anet going to be horribly mean to me? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.194.87.164 (talk • contribs) at 20:32, 1 January 2011 (UTC).

I am also pretty late in discovering this quest, i played it for the first time today. I also think that Anet did a nice job there. But i'm afraid i have to tell you it very likely won't be available after wintersday, just like any other even quest or even minigame. You'll have to wait until Wintersday 2011. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 16:05, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Late as well and found it to be FUN.MystiLefemEle 13:04, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Rewards[edit]

Rewards seem to have been updated, trying to figure out the new figures, I'll be posting in here what I gather. 190.55.169.127 14:13, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

That was me, forgot to sign in, Objectives have been updated too. Beleeth 14:40, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

PvP[edit]

Was this always pvp? I don't seem to be enjoying this quest as much this year which is normally due to playing against other ppl... Kraal FardaleUser Kraal Sig.png

This one remained the same, but they added a PVP variant this year, so you can still play the PVE version by picking the quest and going to ToA to gather people and start it off. Beleeth 13:05, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Survivor?[edit]

Do the deaths in this quest reset the survivor title progress? Ailina (talk) 03:32, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

easy to test nowadays if you are concerned; take non-survivor character. type /deaths + write it down. take quest. enter quest area. die horribly. type /deaths. compare with previous result. if deaths has increased, then its not survivor friendly. -Chieftain Alex 09:30, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
