Damage Type?[edit]

does double damage mean from physical damage? or any damage? If it is only physical I would think this skill would be very useful for any class or build that has few slots left for a secondary profession. umph

No, it is double damage from any damage type. Fox 16:32, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
Which makes it especially bad against spells. I've seen monks go down to Searing Flames or Air Spike faster than Paris Hilton with a camera phone. Because you don't block the spells you become incredibly vulnerable. Dancing Gnome 15:37, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
It is all damage, even non typed and/or armor ignoring. It doesn't affect sacrificing hp.StatMan 05:03, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

just get prot spirit and you will have a constant 75% block with no extra dmg.fun.Oni 14:52, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Imba[edit]

Imo nobody's thought to make a good build with this. But if there are: 1 mesmer, 1 monk, 1 ele and 1 -anything- in the team, all with /W secondary and this skill, they'd have mesmer interrupts, healing, heavy antimelee/projectile defense AND damage. Sure, there could be some unblockable attacks or punishes, but no prof has 7 good skills to bypass blocking. Ninjas In The Sky 12:02, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Yet assassins have enough. Noctarch 02:22, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Wouldn't work. Double damage is a ton for cloth wearers. A teammate would die in two good hits.StatMan 15:34, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Skill Description Troubles[edit]

I thought using Frenzied Defense with Defiant Was Xinrae had potential for synergy, but, when I put up Frenzied Defense while holding the ashes, I took double damage and it certainly wasn't reduced to 20% of my maximum health (my health was a little less than 500 and I was hit somewhat consistently for around 180-240). Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Is the skill description for DwX misleading, or am I simply interpreting it wrong? Does this mean that Frenzied Defense causes reduced damage to be doubled (ie: 20% of max health with prot spirit or 40% with DwX)? Even if that is the case, if I remember correctly, I was being hit for more than 40% of my max health with Frenzied Defense and DwX up.

Frenzied Defense may be taking effect after DwX? like DwX reduces dmg then FD doubles it? 154.5.44.240 01:43, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Joke[edit]

I'm sure ANet only put this skill in for a joke. I can't see any other reason... Astralphoenix777 08:36, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

For monks. -- Halogod35 User Halogod35 Sig.jpg 15:10, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
In order to be raped by MBs? I know it depends on the metagame, but it's wayy to risky.78.114.156.190 21:47, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
It requires zero spec and has a very favorable duration/recharge ratio, that's gold. Morphy 14:18, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
it's decent for the same reason Frenzy is- stance cancelling. -MaskeusUser Maskeus sig.jpeg 17:25, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

bug[edit]

sometimes when I use that stance, I take the double of damage is someone cast an spell against me. It sometimes, but no always. --67.197.69.250 08:35, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

This skill blocks only attacks, and spells aren't attacks. Attacks are swings with weapons (caster or melee weapons) including attack skills, done by pressing space (action. 99.238.104.105 04:32, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
