Talk:Game updates/20071020
only reason that did not wait for official one was because can't connect
Anet just massively failed.. every1 got errored out, but then they fixed. noobs :p
- Not ArenaNet's fault, they got hacked.
- And you know this how, Anon?...And even if it's true, it's still their fault. --ChronicinabilitY 22:49, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- The exploit in question here allowed players to crash every person in the map they were in (as far as I know). It was reported on a Guru thread. brains12- - 23:01, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- LOL! If that's true, I feel bad for the people in Random Arenas. I tried logging in a total of 187 times. =]--Akama Sutrai 23:04, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Theories on what happened?[edit]
Hacked, accident, bug fix, what do you think?--Akama Sutrai 23:16, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'm thinking that anet wished to test this exploit themselves on the live server. After successfully doing this, they then introduced the second update to immediately get rid of the problem. My theory, anyway brains12- - 23:19, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'd guess the update notes actually tells you what happened. - anja 23:21, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, pffft. I hadn't even looked at the page since the vandalism. =P--Akama Sutrai 23:25, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

- Peeps are cut off from the game for what, 10 minutes, and they act as if it's some world-changing event. *groans*. It was probably just an accident anyways. :| The Pointless 23:43, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Even after the first update the exploit was already fixed, they just messed up something which they managed to fix very fast just after :)--Pablo24 00:16, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- Someone forgot to hit the giant "show preview" button next to the "update Guild Wars" button. :P -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 01:28, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- ... the game crusher treason and plot, I know of no reason why game crusher treason should ever be forgot. No really, they introduced a bug and fixed it, "Crush" bugs are not very uncommon in games - some can have very predictable and reproducible triggers (often first once to be fixed in patches), not even uncommon in MMO I recall a certain LineAge2 skill combination that caused every one in the vicinity to crash. http://guildwars.com/support/gameupdates/[edit]
Promoting the official wiki by being faster than guildwars.com is fine, but is all the reason why the actual support page hasn't been updated for 25 hours and counting? Maybe ANet should redirect their update RSS feed to Game updates, so the players can really be up to date?
Also could someone explain to me why this page is being protected/marked for deletion if someone non-official creates an update article? Is only ANet staff allowed to create articles about game updates, even if a not yet officially documented update has indeed happened? And if so, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of a wiki? RolandOfGilead 23:22, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think I recall Gaile saying that the team that maintains the website doesnt work weekends. I'm not sure if I'm remembering this rightly though. brains12- - 23:29, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- And what about the delete notice/edit protection? RolandOfGilead 23:32, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- This page was repeatedly vandalised, so someone temporarily protected it. I'm not sure about the deletion tags. brains12- - 23:40, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- I see one vandalism before the protection, starting from a poorly-worded but not offensive first version. Isn't one vandalism edit a little early to speak of "repeatedly"? RolandOfGilead 23:51, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- Based my reply on the "Please add this" section of this talk page. brains12- - 23:55, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah I know, research is hard. RolandOfGilead 00:01, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Roland, there were actually some more offensive vandalism attempts on this page, a couple of which were quoted on GWO. The Pointless 00:04, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Three or more articles were repeatedly vandalised with racist content. That's why it was tagged for deletion and protected, an update note just stating racism without any information whatsoever doesn't need to be kept. - anja 07:20, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
