Maybe a dumb question, but does it also effect yourself? (I would've test it myself to figure it out, but since my PC is broken I can't) 62.45.70.227 06:48, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Short answer: Yep. Halogod35 User Halogod35 Sig.jpg 06:49, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

How is this a shout? I've never encountered it, but does the user yell "Godspeed!" or something? ` Xiaoling

Yeah, you yell "Godspeed!" The animation for this thing is wrong, people are too lazy to fix it xD -- Halogod35 User Halogod35 Sig.jpg 16:35, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Remnants of Christianity in-game[edit]

I've always found it very interesting how there are so many remnants of Christianity to be found in Guild Wars, despite that it takes place in a fictional world where Christ, and the Christian concept of God, are supposedly non-existent.

This skill's name, for example -- "Godspeed," of course coming from the phrase, "God speed you," is of distinctly Christian, and of course monotheistic, origin. It's interesting that the phrase is used in a game in which there are in fact five (or more) deities.

Another one I've always noticed is the mention of Nephilim. Nephilim were Biblical creatures, the half-blooded descendants of Lucifer, who, born from a demon and a human woman, grew to be 25-foot giants that carried on the demon tradition of basically wreaking havoc wherever they went. The two mentions of Nephilim I've encountered in Guild Wars thus far are, firstly, the Gavel of the Nephilim, the name of a hammer found in-game; and second, the Nephilim creatures, found in various underground caverns.

I've also noticed that there are a lot of crosses, proper or improper, to be found. While they were an un-ignorable part of medieval design, which of course plays a huge role in inspiring Guild Wars' design, they also of course are the universal symbol of Christianity. Of course, this is less of a reference to Christianity than the above-mentioned, because on the other hand it's also safe to assume that crucifixion may exist in the Guild Wars world, as it did in our world before Christ was infamously crucified.

I'd like to see some other contributions mentioning aspects of Guild Wars that were derived from Christianity, or indeed any real-world religion. :]

I've seen a few that come from shouts and inscriptions... MrPaladin talk 18:04, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
your wrong. Nephilims aren't descendants of demons. their descendants of angles. so perhaps you should get your lore correct before you start talking. also, there are no crosses anywhere, they're ankhs, which is not christian. 71.111.55.148 00:15, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Uhm, Guild Wars has its own gods, too. --Aldarik 00:34, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

It's not christianity. It's popular culture. "Godspeed" has been used within the context of the Nasa countless times to wish good look to the astronauts, even though most scientists there are atheists, agnostits, budists, etc. It's like saying "bless you", "oh my god!", or "for god's sake!", out of custom, not because of religious beliefs. Also, names are just that. Names. GW's troll looks nothing like the popular troll, and many dragons do not look like the most popular western dragons, like the Turtle Dragons and the steeelfang dragons, same with the yetis, with those weird mandibles, or the tengu, looking bird-like instead like small clothed crows or humans with tengu masks and black wings on their backs, and kappa look nothing like the typical depiction of kappa, and the list of things that are either slightly different or completely different goes on an on. Inspiration at most. The humans came to Tyria from somewhere else, so they probably used names from stories in their previous world, for completely unrelated creatures that reminded them of those stories. Needs a buff[edit]

The name is soooo awesome that it needs a serious buff to make it indeed godly--88.24.9.203 12:40, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Why? Trust in god and be lost is the motto. Also, there's this nice feature: Feedback:Main Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 13:40, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Synergy[edit]

This skill has good synergy with Mending. Wouldn't it be worth a mention? --Teisei 「ページ」 「会話」 14:40, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

im bad at reading internet sarcasm so i will just type: LoL... Justice 12:07, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
omg godspeed + mending = incoming!!!1! — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 17:10, 7 Dec 2010 (UTC)

Should be noted that long lasting enchantment spells that affect all allies (Dwayna's Sorrow) are very good in combination with this. Very useful substitute for "Incoming!" during Mustering a Response (considering you are as lazy as me to cap incoming :P). 95.180.76.188 15:41, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
