Why does this skill have a 5 second recharge? And why does it cost 5 more energy than its non-elite version? Done25 03:54, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Because it's like three times as powerful? -Auron 03:56, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Only for spell casting. And unlike Life Bond you can't use it to pay for itself. Done25 03:59, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
If it redirected, then you'd hit <50% faster, ending the maintained enchantment. As it is, it's removing x% from all damage, whereas Life Bond redirects half to you, although you get reduced damage. Sure, you can't combine it with Balthazar's Spirit to regain energy, but Blessed Signet is more than enough to get the energy flowing. --Kale Ironfist 04:22, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Here is a question: Why hasn't anyone linked the 2 skills? Done25 04:48, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Because this is a new wiki, and all the related skills work has to be redone? -Auron 04:49, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Seriously, this skill needs a total remake, it just a shitty version of life bond. →[ »Halogod User Halogod35 Sig.png (talk ]← 21:06, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Life bond effects only attacks while life barrier effects all sources of damage. 74.192.159.142 16:18, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Dude -- this is WAY better than Life Bond. I know newer players might not have experienced the wonders of 4-man Sorrow's Furnace, and the absolute incredible awesomeness of this skill, but... Okay. Life Bond redirects damage to you. If you're fighting the precursor to the Flame Djinn, that means your monk DIES. With this skill, the Monk does NOT die. Big, big difference. Thank you. --71.109.225.221 03:40, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure everyone ran 5 man tbh :/ 1 tank, 1 SS, 1 MM, 1 bonder and 1 healbot. Though, the healbot was largely unneeded. ^_^ 82.75.192.76 09:17, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
P-p-p-p-protective spirit!Pika Fan 09:58, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Protective spirit makes both skills underpowered. For fucks sake this is an elite and it is worse than PS.

So does this stack if multiple monks use it on someone? I'm guessing not, but it would be nice if it did... 81.109.179.84 21:45, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

percentages don't stack, if a skill says you take 50% less damage and another says the same, then the math is 1/2*1/2=1/4 because the second skill halves the ALREADY HALVED damage, making the damage half of half being 1/4~~VALAR~~

That's what stacking means, the percentages just aren't stacking additively. What I'm wondering, though, is if the casting order makes a difference if you combine this with, say, Retribution? Widowmaker 22:35, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Heroes[edit]

Heroes seem to have a problem using this skill. Dunkoro has Balthazar's Spirit,Life Barrier,Life Bond,Vital Blessing and is constantly casting and dismissing Life Bond on the melee hero (in this case a scythe wearing Sousuke). He also misuses Balthazar's Spirit by casting it on Sousuke instead of himself. :-/ Katorone 21:17, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Disable the skills by shift + clicking on them and use them manually. Heroes never use maintained enchantments effectively. Koda User Koda Kumi UT.jpeg Kumi 21:36, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Rarely use them effectively, that is. –~=Ϛρѧякγ AHHH! (τѧιк) ←♥– 21:43, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Am I forgetting something again? Koda User Koda Kumi UT.jpeg Kumi 21:44, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
If I remember correctly, they actually use Healer's Covenant efficiently. (Not that it actually matters, considering Healer's Covenant won't see any serious bars.) Maybe they use others effectively, as well. –~=Ϛρѧякγ AHHH! (τѧιк) ←♥– 21:47, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Rounding[edit]

I take 37 damage from spiteful spirit when I'm under this skill at 15 prot and using Frenzy. When I'm not using Frenzy, I take 18. Is this a result of Frenzy being applied first, or does Life Barrier preserve fractions of damage until all other effects have been evaluated? I can't think of any way to test this, mainly because I'm still in the grip of an acute stress response from having to see my family for Thanksgiving. –Jette 21:53, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Its based on the multiplicative stacking seen in Damage reduction. According to Order of damage modifiers it can be seen that an armor ignoring damage spell would first get doubled to 200% due to frenzy then get chopped in half as normal by LB. As for why you take 18 damage from SS while LB is on you, it rounds up from 17.5 to 18. I can't source it but I think that all numbers with a 0.5 added on round up. I have seen other reports based on the odd or even status of the number but I can't find the proper links to them.66.135.236.42 19:09, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
