Should this have Glimmering Mark under related? They both do damage over time for 10 seconds. 72.209.41.202 02:37, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

AoE damage? ONE foe is afected each second, thats not AoE damage... --User rayd sig.pngRayd 00:39, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
The placement of the spell is AoE. "You invoke a Lightning Storm at target foe's location." is just basically like any other AoE skill. -- Brains12Talk 00:41, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
"It's likely that this skill was removed due to AoE damage being unthematic for air magic." buh, still not damage :P --User rayd sig.pngRayd 00:59, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Doesn't Thunderclap have AoE effects? As well as one of the nightfall elites....122.104.160.66 20:12, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
This was removed from prophecies two years before nightfall came out.Don Knowall

thunderclap, chain lightning, arc lightning, blinding surge, glimmering mark, invoke lightning, lightning touch, teinai's wind and whirlwind...those are all aoe spells and 5 of those were prophecies release. If you meant aoe over time spells then i would agree with you, however this spell only targeted one foe anyhow so the thought behind aoe dmg(firestorm or something) doesnt really hold water.--Justice 17:25, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

you're right, the note should be re-written. AoE is not unthematic for Lightning Magic spells, it was seemingly rather the dot that bothered the developers. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 17:29, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
yet idk what should be wrong with this, as it only targets one foe. As you see on the picture, this skill actually represents a thunderstorm. Idk why they thought it would be unsuited. Would also have looked funny, similiar to a Fire Storm with Chain Lightning animation. Zap, zap, zap, zap.... —ZerphatalkThe Improver 17:32, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Maybe they needed to reduce the amount of skills before the release, and this was one of the unlucky skills that got removed --MageMontu 17:45, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Then they'd have removed one of the[imo] best ones. D: —ZerphatalkThe Improver 18:56, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
It would be nice to see some of these skills in the GW1 game, but i think this will never happen :( Nobody cares about GW1 anymore... Maybe some freeshards in the future or something oO --80.121.109.34 23:03, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

It's just a single target, non-exhasting version of Maelstrom in the air attribute. This would have been fun to play with, shame that it was only for beta. Barkingllama

O.O 730 damage total if it was only one foe. Halogod35 User Halogod35 Sig.jpg 00:27, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Seriously? No recharge? Non-elite? This would get abused by Me/E double attunement FC mesmers so badly. Imagine having someone cast these constantly for 30 seconds. If your team didn't move out, they'd be either getting spiked down one at a time every second, or taking a ton of damage from this. Not to mention the interruption. <>208.117.81.202 20:51, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Fail? Mesmers dont double attune 60.234.157.213 01:49, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Ive used dual attune on a fastcast mesmer before and it works fine. the time you get from elemental attunement is enough to do your thing. Its likely this skill has/had a recharge but i wasnted around in beta to say for sure. Before they nerfed aoe over time spells maelstrom was godly anti-caster.--Justice 23:04, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

EXCELLENT[edit]

All these old skills need to get into the game some day.

I'd use this if Anet wasn't bad at game design. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:72.71.209.90 (talk).

Animation[edit]

I guess this skill would look like the AoE thing in The Dragon's Lair mission in Prophecies... Facet of Elements part I think. --84.3.231.74 17:18, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

A few changes and...[edit]

Maybe if Anet/gw game programmers (whoever makes changes) did a few changes to this skill (maybe 5 second duration and slightly decreased damage) I bet it'd be pretty good.... It's only awesome because it's overpowered. Blessed Spectre 02:44, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

I fully agree! Air Magic needs a boost not only in PvE... Air & Water Magic are mostly "Target Only" Skilltrees but Water got "Deep Freeze", "Frozen Burst", "Ice Spikes", "Maelstrom" as AoE Spells (all non-Elite) and Air Magic just "Blinding Surge", "Chain Lightning", "Invoke Lightning" and "Thunderclap"... 3 Elite and just 1 non-Elite Spell. I hope they implement this skill... --Kali Shin Shivara 14:22, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
The elements are supposed to be different. If they all could do the same thing, then two bad things would be true: first, all the elements would seem the stale, and picking one would be a purely flavor-related concept, and second (and more importantly), using attributes wouldn't be a mechanism of keeping eles in line. Fire does damage, earth does defense, water does slowdown, air does high single-target damage (in practice, air is actually for blindspam). This skill is obviously overpowered anyway, it does lol damage and an interrupt every second. --Jette User Jette awesome.png 23:33, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Uh kali this skill would be another one of those "target only" things, it says "ONE foe in the area" cripes so many have commented on how good it looks without reading those little details...Unless they mention the spam to get different storms to mimic AoE? That would support mindless spamming anyways...And full support Jette. Haru 03:18, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

No, it's "one foe in the area of target foe" - the lightning strikes a random person in a certain area- not exactly AOE, not exactly single target. Thus, they wouldn't have to nerf it much.
*shrug*: 25Tango-energy.png 3Tango-activation-darker.png 20Tango-recharge-darker.png Spell. You invoke a Lightning Storm at target foe's location. Each second for the next 10 seconds, one random nearby foe is struck for 7...42...51 lightning damage. If that foe is suffering from weakness, that foe is knocked down. This spell cannot strike the same target more than once every 2 seconds and has 25% armour penetration (50% chance of failure with air magic 7 or less). Though, to be honest, I probably wouldn't use it even if it was there. Redorath 21:02, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
