Guard mode[edit]

Apparently users here feel very strongly about this, but it's not relevant to the setup, nor is it an inherent part of the midline. If anything, setting a midline like this to aggressive mode will lead to cleaner combat. Mesmers will be equipped with ranged weapons, at the very least spear range. This leaves frontline units to charge past them to meet the oncoming frontline, while leaving the backline behind the midline. In over 6 years of having designed and used various Mesmer midlines, not using guard mode on it has been the most impressive part of it. I don't know why the fixation on guard mode is so prominent among GW players, but it's certainly not always a good call. - Infinite - talk 09:06, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

Ah, I shall try the other setting - thank you for the heads up..TikkaLeFem (talk) 02:44, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
I noticed what you wrote in the edit summary about the Mesmers soaking up the healing and protection spells by charging in. When that happens, the Mesmers themselves are becoming a bit moot. (Initial shutdown > initial counterattack.) The whole idea is that they provide a veil of protection for the party by getting hexes and interrupts in play prior to the actual combat starting. Where you would have to micromanage a Ritualist to summon protective spirits before engaging (whenever necessary), these builds when used by AI are ideal for initiatives.
However, before I'm completely digressing into a PvX mindset, the more important reason why we shouldn't have the guard mode part is simply because we are the official wiki, not PvXwiki. Documentation of the meta build should not include usage (that's what PvXwiki is for, and thus the external link). When writing the initial article I tried to steer clear of that type of documentation. - Infinite - talk 08:24, 14 August 2017 (UTC)

ST Rit[edit]

Unsure where to put this but I'd argue that two other builds that are so ubiquitous they deserve their own pages are the Soul Twisting Union/Shelter/Displacement and BiP Resto. They are the backline to most Mesmer Midline hero teams I see. Aqua (talk) 23:51, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

I agree, those two have been meta in many slightly different forms now that they are established as prominent builds. Most team builds these days are varying caster heroes including a BIP resto, two to five Mesmer Midline heroes, and a ST Rit. The core concepts haven't changed in many years so I would be in favour of writing those two pages in the nearby future. - Infinite - talk 01:13, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
The Battery can be used as a baseline; it is sorely outaded. I had a tried making a Ritualist midline with ST and SoS... it got deleted. --Falconeye (talk) 13:56, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
