Species?

I think it should be considered undead, in my opinion. Think about it - zombie warlocks are undead humans, but we list their species as undead, and not human. Shouldn't the same go for this feller? User eldin sig.jpg Eldin 15:55, 3 April 2007 (EDT)

No, because Rotscale doesn't suffer double damage from Holy damage sources, and can suffer bleeding and conditions. He is therefore very fleshy and very un-undead. User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 17:09, 3 April 2007 (EDT)
Then its simple make a new catagory called un-undead --87.113.6.86 01:06, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Technically wouldn't he just be a 'dragon'? Much like Kuunavang? Outpost 01:18, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Un-undead? Are you retarded? That's a double negative, then he'd just be dead, which he clearly isn't. He's undead, just doesn't have the same weakness as normal undead foes. As for the bleeding condition, as the first guy stated, zombie warlocks feel the same effects. They bleed and they get poisoned, yet their undead state knocks them off the human list. It also creates the holy damage weakness, but for whatever reason, A-Net didn't do the same with Rotscale. Maybe because he used to be a monk? Who knows.

He's undead, just too godly to take double damage from holy.--98.196.21.66 17:23, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Scribe

The section in question has no real similarity to the Scribe article; furthermore, it doesnt mention Rotscale's origins as you have presented them in the article. Fox 09:28, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

Actually, the Scribe article says that Kryta is its home, it travelled from Ascalon to Kryta, and the bit about it being reanimated is just logic - it wasn't born dead. --Santax 09:31, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
It ISN'T dead lol. That is why the Scribe article is unreliable and was originally just an advertizement for Rotscale's unique drop. Fox 09:32, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
The scribe article is considered canon as far as lore goes. It was written by ArenaNet and is therefore official. If you'll look, I've conceded the point about it not being considered undead by game design, but as far as I'm concerned the Scribe article is a reliable source. --Santax 09:34, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
There is no mention of its home, except where it is now, no mention of its origins, any of the stuff you are putting in. Assumptions/leaps of logic are not facts. We know from in-game testing that it isn't undead. Furthermore, his earlier location was beta testing only, when he was raised by Stone Summit. This all never made it into the released version of the game, so isn't canon Fox 09:41, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
Ah, sorry about the home in Kryta bit, I misread the article. "It says it made its home in Kryta", I read it as "It made its way to its home in Kryta". Still, the rest of it wouldn't be considered canon normally but it has recieved a mention from the Scribe, which means for some reason it is. Having said that, I'll update the article accordingly. --Santax 09:49, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
Well, I don't want to get into a revert/edit war over this. Rewrite the intro if necessary, but most of The Scribe stuff is rubbish. I'm up to 3RR on this I think, so I will leave it to your judgement for now how to tackle it :) Fox 09:52, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

its not of rotscale ,its of one of those dragons that guard the shadow encampment in the Fissure of woe --87.113.6.86 00:59, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

No, that's an old shot of Rotscale that dates back to the beta events. --Santax (talk · contribs) 17:06, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Why don't you want to use the render for rotscale? --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 02:10, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

How to Kill it

To kill Rotscale and his friends, You will need a strong group. 1 healer 1 bonder 2 Elementals constant nuking 2 war 2 utility classes.

there u go.

Or one mesmer. Screenies on demand. Yseron - 90.15.177.201 20:30, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Or 600 with Grenth's Balance, smiter, and a ranger with QZ and symbiosis but that's just taking the easy way out. -Kage No YugataFollow the rabbit if you dare... User KageNoYugata sig.png 23:42, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
you can kill it solo with a 55 build, but instead of a -50cesta use a -20hp offhand...got an SC for anyone who doesnt believe, the balthazar buffs dont hurt either if you dont have a -20hp offhand. its a fun challenge for anyone interested. 71.202.198.72 01:34, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Rotscale and Rurik

So, I've been trying to remember the "days back then" and thought there was Rurik standing by the stairs into the ocean by the merchants in Lion's Arch, telling us (possibly even giving a quest?) to slay Rotscale in Majesty's Rest. Does anyone happen to remember any more details about this? It certainly is not the Slay Rotscale quest, but could have had the same name. I believe it was prior to the beta weekends, at the last day of an event... I recall Skill Charms being introduced, was it during the World Preview Event? --zeeZ 23:22, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Epic fight

this figth was epic best achivment in game for me they should have a title for killing him in hm--Lord randy taylor 20:40, 2 March 2009 (UTC)lord randy taylor

Yes i believe it's called Tyrian Vanquisher :D,because when you are done with him the other areas are a piece of cake ;)

It was for me the first time but coming at him with a mesmer and a discord way setup made it easier than pre searing bosses - just longer. If you want that bow i suggest N/ME or Me/N SS with interrupts and the 3 N/Rt discord heros

How I did it fast

'm not sure how you guys put up the builds, kinda new to the wiki thing, but basically I ran a simple RoJ smiter with smite/bane signet and I could take out every rotscale lackey within a minute and a half using protective bond to keep them from wasting me. I had 1 monk healer backup and 1 warrior hero. After rotscale is alone I brought in the heroes which usually spawns the wraiths, so watch for them and RoJ them back to hell. Then flag the warrior up (which has to be a very good tank btw. I brought mainly enduring skills with bleed/deep wound and some tough armor setups. He should have one hard heal (preferrably not a spell or healing sig)) and all he has is condition attacks for degen and plague touch. You and the monk healer stay out of the way while he absorbs the daze and plague touches it back. Then rotscale is harmless. RoJ and every other skill you may bring to take him down. I brought ancestors visage, conjure nightmare, shrinking armor, and sometimes either ether nightmare or illusion of pain. Of course you share some of these with the hero monk if you want to bring them all. I won't step by step you on energy management for this because hopefully by now you figured out how to incorporate those things if you're doing HM lol. The idea is to keep his energy gone so no nasty spells. Just in case the interrupts fail. Alternate between keeping the hexes up and healing your tank. Protective spirit is a must especially on the tank. Believe me it helps. you can focus it on the tank until you see one of the big spells like deadly swarm coming then do it to yourselves. If you are not a monk you could easily swap out for one of these heroes or just bring an extra one. The key here is small team to keep him from wanting to take more targets. It makes him focus mainly on the tank And yes this team can make it to majesty's rest in one piece if you are smart. Flag out the tank, and do the same with the other enemies. Cleaning out rotscale's little hideout takes about a minute or two and killing him takes me about 5 max. Hopefully this helps you cause I got tired of trying some of the other builds on here and failing. Especially the first ones listed. I died quickest with them. Probally due to heavy nerfing no doubt. As of March '09 this setup I am running works for me. Hopefully it works as good for you. Nay of the Ether 19:10, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

You will notice

That the game designers made you a gift if you look at the fact that rotscale got 2secs casting times spells. Once you take out its guards, nature renewal + any dazing skills and mesmers skills that lenghten casting times combined give you the opportunity to watch a movie and come back later by the time he can finish casting a spell ( hence, only 2 interrupts for the whole team are needed ), even in hard mode. Rotscale is in fact a joke made by the game designers. But unless 8 secs ( 16s with a mesmer that double that, i did not include holy veil ) casting time is too hard for you to interrupt then yes, go look for the builds of the local roxxors above. Yseron - 86.209.71.21 20:46, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

It's not so much Rotscale that is the problem, but instead his groups and location. It is far out from a town therefore requires fighting enemies to get to him. Before his group there are pop ups and poison spouts. In his groups are several Bone Dragons and various other enemies, including Frozen Soil spammers which prevent resurrection should someone fall. Once you get rid of all but Rotscale, it's simple. -- Azazel The Assassin\talk 20:50, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
I dont remember that being a problem. Plus undeads are tons of fun because you can do 300dps with holy damages. Yseron - 86.209.71.21 20:58, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
I remember getting my arse handed to me by him, but we hadn't even done the crystal desert at that point. After doing Hell's Precipice over and over until we got it right, I imagine this would be easy ^_^. --Star Weaver 22:01, 4 May 2009 (UTC) (actually about an hour ago)
I'm still a noob, only been playing GW for 3 months and just get totall Owned by the Dragons which can and will hit you halfway acrross the bridge. With Heroes and Henchies and my Bonder buffing me up to the Hilt I can't pull anything befor I'm BBQed by the Dragons--92.18.151.48 20:14, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Should he be in his own Affiliation/Species?

Since he's not undead, should there be a Dragon species for him? --adrin User adrin ecto sig.png 07:00, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

How do you know that isn't an undead dragon with a 50% resistance to holy damage? Paddymew 12:21, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Late, But Currently, his it says he's an undead zombie, while I think it should say undead "ragon. Just a thought. Thrain Ranger-tango-icon-20.png Talk 17:53, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

You can kill him during the second Keiran quest

It's really easy too once you kill the mobs around him because you can interrupt his skills easily. If you have trouble with the other dragons, use hit and run tactics until you can snipe one or two of them (they won't chase). And yes, he'll still drop the rotwing recurve bow. Necromas 22:38, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I just killed him that way and he did not drop the bow, its the first time I have killed Rotscale and the bow not drop. Ramei Arashi 02:29, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
He ment "if the % was right" he will drop the bow...? --NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon6.png 15:58, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
I've killed him several times in groups and he always dropped the bow, never once did he not. When I did it solo during the quest no bow dropped. I was shocked. Ramei Arashi 01:19, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
I've just killed him during the quest and he dropped the bow. Probably just has a smaller chance of dropping it during this quest.83.24.104.135 13:27, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
I did the quest twice in a row (got killed the first time by some sin WM) He dropped his bow each time, not a bad record -- 188.220.173.91 16:16, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Just for the record....after much pain and a gajillion rez's I finally managed to take out ol' Rotty in hm and get that darn entry out of my log book. This is the 4th time I've killed him, and his bow has NEVER dropped. And today is double green drop rate day. Phooey! Dio 02:57, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Sick of the comments

I am sick to death of other players calling me a noob for not being able to do this. I don't have nightfall. If any so called good players are able to kill him without using nightfall heroes or skills then please post how you did it which I doubt anyone would be able to do. Sorry to everyone else that wanted to find advice I am just sick of the comments. --SuperPudz Miniature Juggernaut.png 09:41, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Putting aside how easy killing Rotscale is, doesn't it make sense that you can't do everything in Guild Wars when you don't even own all of Guild Wars? User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 10:18, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
There's no significant advantage I can see to using Nightfall heroes and skills over EotN heroes and non-Nightfall skills. Are there any in particular without which you can't see killing Rotscale? --Irgendwer 18:42, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm not saying that nightfall heroes are superior to eye of the north heroes, I am saying that I can't say bring more than 1 hero type of each so I can't produce (and I am not saying this is what I would do but) a spiritway party or something like that. I am limited in what I can do. Skills I am not sure about because lets face it why research something that you are not going to buy. @ Felix, if it is so easy then there is a challenge I have stated, prove your gw awesomeness :) --SuperPudz Miniature Juggernaut.png 12:25, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Here. I wound up killing Rotscale's guards myself, then bringing the rest of the party forward to wear him down. Obviously our victory wasn't flawless but we succeeded in killing him in a reasonable amount of time and without any consumables or morale boosts. --Irgendwer 17:35, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah sorry, I forgot to say that I was able to do it. I think on the 12th I did it :) You were right Felix it was easy, have to be careful but it was easy (I had not done it in a while so I must have got better from the last time I did it which was a looooooooong time ago,=). Anyway I just encouraged some of them to come out, picked them off, when it got to rotscale, gwen spammed chaos storm while vekk spammed maelstorm. HE WAS SCREWED, got stuck in that little tower and got raped :P Such a great feeling when I beat him. Thanks for the advice and encouragement people. --SuperPudz Miniature Juggernaut.png 10:14, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
