Can someone confirm that they drop in Nightfall during Drakes on a plain ? Godis 20:26, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Just me (SoS) and Koss in NM, a Grand Drake dropped a Spiked Crest. Darwin Iznang 20:57, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Jumping between Tears and Stingray (Farming)[edit]

I've been jumping between these two zones killing the drakes outside of each one, but can't get a drop. Am I just being unlucky? --Flaming Renegade User Flaming Renegade Signature.jpg 04:37, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Are you killing other monsters first? Most times the first few monsters you kill in a zone do not give you any drops. Darcy 12:42, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

There 10 or so right at the start of Sanctum Kay mission too, another decent enough spot.

I recommend going into the Gates of Kryta mission. There are several groups of Lightning Drakes in the southern beach area. You have to fight a few groups of undead to get there but it may be worth it. -- Ralmon -- 03:55, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Luck of the Draw or...? (Solo Farming in Sanctum Cay mission)[edit]

I've been doing the first part of the Sanctum Cay mission solo. The first time, I got four Spiked Crests, then eight times in a row, I got none at all, just normal loot. Then on the tenth time through the mission I got three Crests. Is this just randomness and luck, or do the numbers of trophies go down for a while when repeating an area or mission? I think you just had weird luck.
No one has published systematic evidence to confirm it, but I am convinced (based on statements by ANet and anecdotal evidence) that there's no special code that looks at how often you return to the same area, time of day, how many other ppls have been farming the area, etc.
You found 7 crests in 10 runs, which is slightly lower than the 1-2/run that people have reported for Sanctum Cay, i.e. well within the range of luck...especially since the estimates are based on people stopping after collecting, 5, 10, or 15 crests (i.e. not much evidence, so the true average might be closer to 0.7/run). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:31, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Weird luck, that's me. =) Thanks for the reply! Singing Wolf 01:40, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
There is no luck in programming, there can be glitches and bugs (and FUBARD things) but that is about it. Regarding the code there is antifarming code, anet has said as much - if you farm an area too much it kicks in, if you farm with a character overall it kicks in (i think it's based on the law of diminishing returns), there is a small reset that can be noticed when u take a character u haven't sc'd with in a few months or so back into the area u farm, the first run u will get loot (greens) u usually dont (including higher droprate). This is very evident in some areas. There is also code that gives a fresh character specific loot first time through certain areas. Afaik both the amount of loot and rarity is included in the code.
Note that mini's count as partymembers and affect lootscaling (how much amount of loot a certain partymember gets, thus back when sc's were bigger ppl used to get angry when someone had it out, I can't recall if the lootscaling assigns it to the player which has it or it simple gets assigned to the mini - i do know mini's can get loot assigned though /bug when loot for a short amount of time is visibly assigned to a pet).
It's exactly 3 groups of 2-3 drakes on the beach in Sanctum Kay, which means its 6 to 9 drakes... Niiiiccee. Durp da durp (talk) 01:34, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
