Tesla[edit]

O.O....She has my name XXD - Tesla 15:37, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Nice one! That's actually what i thought when i heard the name, blade radio! Or theres a magnetman fan from megaman battle network?--Smithyben 20:03, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Revert War[edit]

Why not just add both Tesla as wiki-user and the scientist? Some people... really. --8765 05:03, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Because it wasn't named for the scientist, it was named for Tesla from Blade Radio in recognition of her commitment to the Guild Wars Community. The revert war is done, the page has been protected. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 05:05, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Thank you Wyn --Drakora 05:07, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Wyn, so for the problems it caused. =.= - Tesla 05:09, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Tesla-wikiuser probably derived their name from either tesla-scientist, or tesla as in Tesla Coil in the command & conquer games. There's also the Tesla car company. While the connection to Tesla-wikiuser is more logical, it doesn't prove it 100%, until the developer says so. Then again, the wiki was never scientific. XD --8765 05:11, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Because it's been stated by the Developers that the name for the NPC is in recognition of Tesla's activities. Don't try to take that away by making some vague connections to some improbable sources. Just be pleased for her and stop with the crap. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 05:15, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
"vague connections to some improbable sources"
lol. --75.71.67.5 05:21, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Where do developers confirm references? Or in this case this one? This one is more obvious, but I think some or many of the references on the wiki are guesses at best. --8765 05:23, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Well, Linsey confirmed it in today's in game chat in this instance.... do you want a screenshot? --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 05:28, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
I know the NPC's named after User:Tesla. That doesn't make it any less lolful that you think that it's vague and improbable that the user is named after Nikolai Tesla. --75.71.67.5 06:14, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
In this context it doesn't matter who the user is named for, she is free to document that on her page if she wishes. The discussion here, and the note was pertaining to why the NPC was named Tesla and clouding that recognition is just wrong. In other words, I meant that the NPC being named for the scientist was vague and improbable. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 06:30, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
The NPC was named after the user on this wiki, but you Wyn seriously need to think harder before you post things like "vague and improbable sources" while talking about one of the most prominent inventors of all time (among other things he proposed alternating current as the standard way of supplying electricity to the masses and constructed the three-phase electric power systems used to this day). Just a heads up so you don't embarass yourself any more - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Tesla 89.172.63.242 02:39, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Reset Indent. I know for a fact that Tesla got her name from both the band and the scientist, but that is completely irrelevant since neither the band or the scientist have nothing to do with GW. The NPC is named after Tesla end of story no reason for futher discussion.Talk page Drogo Boffin 02:45, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I know exactly who Nikolai Tesla is, but in the context of this article, and the note referencing the namesake of this NPC, it is a vague and improbable source. I'm not embarrassed by my statement in the least. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 02:52, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Don't argue with Wyn I know from experience that she allways wins so save yourself the trouble because she is allways right when it comes the the wiki.Talk page Drogo Boffin 03:05, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
XD Told you to put up the screenshot Tesla, before all this. Frozenwind 03:22, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh and since I've seen two people already reference him as Nikolai, that is incorrect - his first name is Nikola (Nikolai would be a Russian or Ukranian version of that name, while in fact he was of Serbian ethnicity)89.172.63.242 03:29, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I've seen enough of this already. I have provided a screenshot to prove everything Wyn has said. Also, as for why I use the name Tesla as my dj name...since this seems to cause a lot of issues lately...I am just going to post the reason here in hopes that maybe all the fighting and arguing about this will go away! The name Tesla has a lot history to it. From Tesla Coil, Tesla the scientist, Tesla the band and even to the Tesla car...I use the name Tesla because of all the history behind the name. Not solely because of Nikola Tesla, not solely because of Tesla the band or because of the Tesla car or Tesla coil, but because of the combination of the history the name Tesla. So I hope that explains it all to you...Though Wyn still stands correct. There are no Tesla cars in the game, nor any Tesla coils, Tesla the band doesn't play and nor does Nikola Tesla...so before you keep arguing with her, please look at this screenshot. Thank you and happy 4th year Guild Wars Anniversary to you all!! - Tesla 03:49, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
The screenshot has been linked above for hours and hours.... they just want to try to make me look like an idiot... it doesn't work, but if it keeps them amused to try it's their problem. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 03:58, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm glad that this discussion finally came to an end. So I am happy to congratulate you Tesla and Wyn on your own new NPCs :) I love that Anet appreciates and rewards the dedication of players to the GW community. Zaishen Dragon 11:56, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Zaishen Dragon! I know it might sound silly, but I am still amazed. - Tesla 08:22, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Not silly at all imo...I would be too ^^ Zaishen Dragon 08:33, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
If you start to congratulate people for their NPC's, congratulate then ALL people who got an NPC: Tesla, Wyn, Poke, Salome, Silavor, Silverleaf and Purple llama ^^ |Cyan LightUser-Cyan Light sig-icon.jpgLive!| 08:38, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
You are absolutetely right. Congratulations to all the proud new NPC-owners :) Zaishen Dragon 08:53, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
LOL! I am going to have to do that! - Tesla 19:48, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Resurrected debate[edit]

just curious....i added a new trivia point(i.e. not even touching the existing one) saying that there is an inventor named Nikola Tesla. It did not say, imply, convey or otherwise state that the npc was named after the inventor(the previous trivia clearly states that the npc was named after the wiki user). so my question is...why remove a relevant and completely correct trivia? 24.48.210.197 09:36, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

While technically correct, I disagree that it's relevant. It's not related to the naming of this NPC. As Wyn stated above, if the wikiuser Tesla was named after Nikola, that's something that belongs on her user page, not here. Tub 11:19, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
The overriding principle we follow on the wiki is to document the game, which does mean listing the developer inspiration for a name, storyline, or challenge. In a lot of cases, we can't be sure of what ANet was considering, so we note factual similarities with real life or fictional counterparts — that's the best we can do under the circumstances.
In Tesla's case, we have the source: Tesla was named after User:Tesla and it was confirmed (in-game) by ANet staff. Therefore, there's no need to note any other trivia related to the name: it's not relevant and it distracts from the key reference. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:10, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Comparison[edit]

Just thought it was interesting how things compare using coins versus faction. Here’s just one example that caught my eye. One Passage Scroll to Urgoz's Warren/the Deep costs 50 copper coins and a Zaishen Key costs 1 gold coin (500 copper coins). So using coins the ratio is 10:1 (Scrolls:Keys). Yet it's only 5:1 if you earn the faction. A scroll costs 1000 Kurzick/Luxon faction and a Zaishen key costs 5000 Balthazar faction. Hope my figures are right. Any other examples? Just curious. Sardaukar 06:08, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

That's assuming Luxon/Kurzick faction transfers over to Balthazar faction at a 1:1 ratio, but I was wondering the same thing. Gold Chocobo 06:10, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
That's actually pretty cool...I didnt notice that comparison till you pointed it out. XD - Tesla 06:36, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Also noticed that while Champagne Poppers, Sparklers and Bottle Rockets are sold for 30 copper coins and worth only 1 point in the Party Animal title track, Crème Brûlées and Flasks of Firewater are sold for only twice the amount (60 copper coins) yet worth 3 points each in the Sweet Tooth/Drunkard title tracks. Makes me wonder if we're getting some purposeful help in maxing titles, because most people selling these items wouldn't let that extra point go without charging you. ;) Sardaukar 12:46, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
