Can someone confirm that being a Prophecies character is a prerequisite for this quest, or can a character from any campaign with a Tapestry Shred do it? --Santax (talk · contribs) 16:32, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

If there's nothing missing from the prerequisite list, then yes, I think Prophecies character is correct. My mesmer has everything else, except she's Canthan (though she does get another quest instead) Spectrus 03:55, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Being a Prophecies character is required for this one, yes. From a lore standpoint, it didn't make much sense to have this open to everyone, given how it is trying to tell its story. When I was writing these quests, one of the things that was constantly in the back of my mind was the number of people who were commenting on what might happen with Gwen in EotN - there were just a lot of old Prophecies characters that hung onto their tapestry shreds, and really wanted to see something happen. I was one of those people - my main character is now 28 months old, and she'd held onto her shred the entire time. This was an easter egg for those people - the ones speculating on the lore forums about what happened to Gwen, would we ever see her again?, etc.

Statistically speaking, the item reward from Then and Now, Here and There should be the same as the one from Fire and Pain, just with different art. I wrote that one so that the reward could be open to everyone, but also (at least to me) it makes some amount of sense from a story standpoint in terms of Gwen's motivation. If she's meeting someone she knew and admired 8 years ago, and they're bringing her something she once thought lost - there's going to be some measure of relief and happiness in the otherwise sad reflection on her past that that's going to bring up. If you're a foreign character, someone she has no relation to, that is saying "Here are these things that used to be yours," she's going to make that connection to her past - only without the feelings of meeting and old friend again, and that's just going to bring out a sense of loss in her. It sort of further fuels the already apparent hatred she has for the Charr because of what they've done to her - hence why Fire and Pain is a much more "Rawr, kill!" sort of quest. Thanks for the explanation : ) Something I have noticed is that my Tattered Girl's Cape also vanished when I did the quest, together with the tapestry. I was really wishing the flute or the Rose Focus were a wand, so I could equip Gwen with both the flute and the rose, but I understand why we may chose between the two of them : D Erasculio 14:19, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I'll be trying this tonight, my nightfall character has done almost all of GW:EN so I'm getting a perma pre character to leave and give up a shred.

Would be a shame to lose a perma-pre for a shred: create a new char, Gwen will hand over the shred in return for a new flute (cost 4g) and 4 red iris flowers within about 14 minutes of that character being created. No fuss :) Fox (talk|contribs) 21:31, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Abandoning quest after getting flute?

I'm just wondering if it's possible to abandon the quest after kneeling and getting the flute in Old Ascalon. Will Gwen give you the quest again uf you give her another tapestry shred? Thecount 12:38, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Another requirement

I wanted to try this quest on my monk. She has the tapestry shred in her inventory, but Gwen doesn't give the quest. Now, my monk hasn't finished Eye of the North yet, is this an extra requirement that isn't listed? --Lady Rhonwyn 18:28, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Late to this one, I am. No, Gwen's father was killed in the pre-Prophecies Guild Wars. Her home is the town "Ashford", not that specific house. Kyubiko 18:03, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

something wrong

No longer need shred?
