Possible synergy with Cranberry Jelly Signet and Irresistible Potatoes? - User HeWhoIsPale sig.PNG HeWhoIsPale 15:54, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

ANet must've been hungry when they came up with this skill. Seriously, wtf. It even sounds stupid to say. Ebon Vanguard are weirdos. --Heelz 22:47, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Tryptophan Signet... How is this not an Asuran skill, I mean they are the only "scientific" people I'd think of using a name like this! Btw Tryptophan is a protein found in high concentration in turkey which tends to make one sleepy. Concerned User 1337000 05:48, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah... Seinfeld comes to mind. He feeds his girlfriend wine and turkey, then plays with her toy collection when she's asleep. Too funny. --onoes! Mafaraxas 07:07, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Lol, why is it named after an amino acid found in milk? --Burning Freebies 21:01, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
"This skill is named after tryptophan, an amino acid (commonly found in meat products) which is then converted into serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved with drowsiness/sleep." Fits the 'move and attack 23...40% slower.' perfectly. --Arduinna talk 21:10, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Progression[edit]

At rank 4 Vanguard, this lasts for 14 seconds, and foes move and attack 22% slower. --onoes! Mafaraxas 22:53, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

At rank 5, lasts 15 seconds, foes move and attack 24% slower. --onoes! Mafaraxas 07:45, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

I can't test this because I'm nowhere near close to mallyx, but wouldn't this be very helpful vs him? AFAIK it would be the only way to slow his attack speed and one of only three able to slow his movement (other two being ward against foes and muddy terrain)

It worked nicely against Shiro and lasted the full duration, so i'd imagine it works just as well against Mallyx. - 79.76.17.32 12:37, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
This skill is useless n95% of them time. Raptaz 14:20, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
95% of the time is NOT all of normal mode, especially if you're counting the two Shiro fights and Mallyx (although who really fights him in normal mode now adays). This skill is great for fighting tough monsters in hard mode, like bosses or tough end-of-game foes that come by themselves or in a small mob. There are plenty of places to use tryptophan in Tyria. Silavor UserSilavorSigIcon.png 07:06, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Eh, oftentimes people want SV/SS/Empathy on those bosses instead to speed up the kill. But I agree, this does have its uses. --onoes! Mafaraxas 20:35, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Umm rank 3 Vanguard 16 secs... Was duration buffed? Paddymew 16:00, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it was changed from 10...20 to 14...20 some time ago. --War_Pig5 18:08, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Bug[edit]

I strongly believe this works only on the targeted foe, not all adjacent foes. Tested against Hard Mode Zombie Brutes, which can keep up with players under Dash. When using this sig against a group of Brutes, only the target foe breaks aggro when dashing off, the others still have the same speed. Adding bug tag. RolandOfGilead 08:23, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

For those that are calling this a bad skill, remember one thing. It is not a hex or condition. The bosses that receive reductions on the durations of those effects would not get the same on this. But for major bosses like Shiro, I agree it would be better to speed him up with SV on him than to slow him down. In any other case, it is a free speed de-buff to catch kiting monks in hard mode, for instance. Guildwarsrunner 02:20, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

It is a bad skill, because it requires touch range and warriors spamming this very 15 seconds gain adrenaline slower, thus dealing a lot less damage, which is redundant (foes deals less damage, you deal less damage=slower battle with no real change in outcome). The DMS+DAS idea kinda fails unless you are running away, and that is not really a cornerstone of PvE (unlike PvP, where kiting is good), so however you use this skill, it never reaches maximum usage (one of the effects is always redundant)Crimmastermind 02:28, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Every 15 seconds is spamming? O_o. --Star Weaver 20:30, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
yeah, saying that using a one second skill every 15 seconds is spamming equals a fail-comment. its okayish as it costs no energy. 95.89.101.207 17:03, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
The touch range is what turns it from a broken pve skill to a normal skill that's not available in pvp. --128.54.74.143 17:24, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
So does the update mean it is now just as broken as the other PVE skills? Fynal 01:44, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
I still would not use it. I mean, I could easily use Shadow of Fear or some other Necro Hex to slow down attackers. But I just do not do it. Not many if any players used this skill before, and changing it to ranged just makes the idea of applying Tryptophane to the target at range somehow look silly. But as people pointed out, you can now use it to slow down running foes. -> Moddok Crevice e.g. --Longasc 07:24, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
You do notice that this signet doesn't require any spec, energy or specific profession to use efficiently? That > shadow of fear.Pika Fan 07:47, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
No doubt, but I do not use Shadow of Fear on my Curse Necro either. I can imagine this as the third PvE skill of a Warrior, besides Whirlwind and SY... but who actually used it before, why should they use it now? --Longasc 16:07, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Grasping Earth alternative? 122.104.166.208 10:04, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Useful alternative to Shadow of Fear versus Destroyers...Hex Eater Vortex/Shatter Hex x5 gets old really fast. Of course, you're better off with unconditional spammable AoE blind in almost any case where anyone would use this anyway. The idea of using it primarily as a snare is interesting, although I can only think of like two places in PvE where snares are srs important...Moddok Crevice, and one certain quest on Istan. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 10:34, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
You probably never played elite missions if you think snares are this useless. Pika Fan 10:35, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Permas, 600s, and speedclears use snares now? Vili 点 User talk:Vili 10:40, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
UW/FoW are elite missions? I thought only DoA(FR)/Slaver's Exile(FR)/Deeps/Urgoz were.Pika Fan 10:50, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
perma + some buffs like Mending for ravenheart and maybe few other places, snares in The Deep and Urgoz are used for............keeping things in Meteor Shower/Maelstrom (Deep Freeze)? Vili 点 User talk:Vili 19:02, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Meteor Shower was the meta like, a year ago or something. Everybody runs cryers now. Tryptophan Signet helps keeps mobs from running into the cryers if they spike uncleanly. Deep Freeze is usually brought along by a /E, but with this buff, DF is pretty much obsolete.Pika Fan 19:48, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
My old guild ran MS + DF. In easymode, there are easier/faster ways to get shit done (even a year ago)...in HM, the damage is reduced to lolnothing, so all it does is keep a group in KD, maybe, with a clean and coordinated cast. Not that that's not useful, sure. But it is a single skill combination made to counter HM buffs, in broken areas where you need that kind of fullstop power; snares in general just don't do much in pve. Oh, and Trypto won't be as good as Deep Freeze until rank 5 or something, so you'd likely have to grind for it anyway... Vili 点 User talk:Vili 08:43, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Buff[edit]

Woot unconditional and unremoveable aoe movement and attack speed reduction at range! --Bleded Scythe 06:22, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

And maintainable :D - J.P.User Jope12 sigicon.pngTalk 19:40, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
I carry this on my monk always now. It's basically a prot given how much this lessens dps.~>Sins WDBUser The Sins We Die By Sig.png 18:20, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Good idea.--72.189.84.187 12:32, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
I want to try this skill against Magni the Bison in the Norn Tournament. He's annoying to Hex/Cripple, this signet however seems unremovable and would be probably very effective in allowing to kite Bison the entire match.--Sensei 11:50, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Spells[edit]

So, this doesn't affect speed of casting spells by enemies? 50.88.232.189 11:36, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

no, it doesn't. --you like that don't you..The Holy Dragons 15:01, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
