Either way, I'm glad that someone took notice of my efforts so quickly. Like I said, this is very much a new template and it took me a while to work out all the kinks. Bug

I can't get the festival hat keeper, or the guild emblemer to respond. There set to 1 but its listed as 0...see My Guild Dominator Matrix 05:37, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Wrong Colors?

The only problem I have with it is it doesn't conform to guild page colors. I have also created a Guild Services template User:Wynthyst/Template/Guild hall services. I left it in my namespace, but anyone is welcome to use it.-- Wynthyst 07:16, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

That's one of the many options, and the one that I prefer to use myself. To indicate that a service has been bought, you simply include any string for the parameter vaule. For example, to indicate that your hall has a Xunlai agent, you could say "| xunlai = 1", "| xunlai = yes", or even "| xunlai = cheesecake". To indicate that it is not unlocked, omit the line or leave the space after the = blank. Putting any non-null value in the parameter will trigger a checkmark to be displayed. --Vorith 21:40, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, Kokuou! I really had a fun time making it. Thanks on the punctuation change, too... I wasn't aware that the Wiki powers-that-be didn't like the fact that according to general grammatical convention abbreviations are pluralized with apostrophes. I'd seen "NPCs" on other pages before but always assumed it was a typo. *rolls eyes* If that's how they want it, though, I'll take one for the team. Well it turns out I spoke too soon (or too late, depending on how you look at it.) Way back in the day when I was in middle school, my English teacher always told me to pluralize abbreviations by adding 's. I guess they've since changed that and neglected to tell me. -_- If you ask the officials now, NPCs would probably be correct, even though for some reason it still doesn't look right to me. :P --Vorith 22:32, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

(Edit conflict) "Wiki powers that be"? Everyone who is interested can discuss formatting conventions, there aren't a 'select few' that make all decisions. The formatting conventions come along because that's what everyone who participated agreed on.

As for apostrophe usage when pluralising acronyms, NPCs is preferred to NPC's. It's nothing specific to the wiki.

I thought the correct way to pluralise anything is to NOT use an apostrophe, since that denotes possession. E.g. "There are three NPCs in that outpost" (plural), "The NPC's dialogue box" (possessive). You would not talk about three apple's, would you? ;) Biscuits 12:14, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I understand the rules of elementary grammar, thank you very much. You may note that a good portion of abbreviations are pluralized with apostrophes. My car has two GPS's in it, and my professor, who always gives me A's, has three Ph.D.'s. Actually, Biscuits, if you keep your eyes open, you will see people saying things like "three apple's." Linguistically, it's quite an interesting phenomenon (although not unique to English nor the present). Technically, the only time pluralization should happen with 's is when pluralizing single letters (such as "A's"). Abbreviations, however, according to prescriptive rules, should not have 's (e.g. NPCs, NDAs). Note, though, that all of these so-called rules are not set in stone; that is, even people who write style guides can't seem to agree 100% on them. That is why most proper publications and official writings (such as this wiki) set up their own style guides, so that each project is at least consistent within itself. Hall / Isle?

It seems like a terrible pedant point to bring up now, but shouldn't the "isle" parameter really be called "hall", thus maintaining consistency with the {{Guild infobox}} template, and more to the point, only a handful of the guild halls are called XX Isle. Though using this template has brought up the minor issue that the Wizard's Isle image isn't consistently named (it no apostrophe in the filename ;-). --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 12:32, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

My intent in naming the parameter "isle" was to make its intended contents as obvious as possible. Obviously, the entire template concerns guild halls, as opposed to {{Guild infobox}} which concerns the guild in general, and I felt that by naming the parameter "isle" rather than "hall" any confusion would be avoided. As all of the hall names follow either the format "____ Isle" or "Isle of ____", the purpose of the parameter is made more clear by using this alternative. As for the problem concerning image filenames, I will look into a solution to the inconsistency. Thank you for bringing it up. --Vorith 00:50, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I have made an attempt to rectify the situation by implementing the StringFuction #replace, but it seems that StringFuctions are not supported by GWW, as I suspected they would not be (as the package is stable but not yet a MediaWiki standard). At the current time, therefore, technical limitations prevent the problem prom being solved in the code. The documentation has been edited to reflect the fact that apostrophes must be manually omitted. --Vorith 23:12, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Either way is fine with me as long as the format listed in the documentation is kept up-to-date. It might be worth noting that the image for Warrior's Isle is inconsistent; it follows a different format than the other apostrophe-containing halls. --Vorith 23:17, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

duplicate template pending deletion

but it uses float:left instead of right. can we add that as a switch to this template so the other pages can be changed to this template without screwing up their page layouts? -Auron 13:51, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
