Template talk:Necromancer minion creation nav

My first template. I hacked and slashed pieces from several templates, and glued them back together. Hope this is correct. Please, if I did something wrong, correct it and tell me what is wrong.StatMan 16:23, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Looks good.—User Rein sig.pngRein 16:31, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Do you want the header to link to Minion or List of minion skills? --JonTheMon 16:34, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
List of Minion Skills. thanks. Also, maybe this template should be named Minion Animation Skills? StatMan 16:49, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Changed. I'm going to let this sit a day, so I don't create a bunch of edits. I think I'll move it tommorrow to Minion_animation_skills_nav, then start adding it to the minion animation skills' pages. StatMan 16:49, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Couple things: if you're going to change the name soon, I don't think you should put it on before you finalize it. Just extra edits, imo. Also, if you put the nav on, be sure to take off the "See also" if it points to the nav or one of the other skills. --JonTheMon 17:00, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. I was going to test it out on the Animate Bone Horror page. The see also does not point to the nav (the nav only contains skills that create minions, whereas the see also contains skills you'd use with minions), and I'll make sure that only related skills has links to skills in the nav, and that see also doesn't have skills that are in the nav. Thanks for the points. StatMan 17:33, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
I meant the See also link being the same as the header link in the nav. --JonTheMon 18:02, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
It is not obvious that the link in the header would list skills other than creation spells. List of Minion Spells gives a nice list of the spells that directly affect minions, not just the ones that create them. How about I create a list of Minion Animation spells, then have the header link to that? StatMan 18:09, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
I don't think it needs its own page, as it's the first section on the List of minion skills page already. --JonTheMon 18:47, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Additionally, it wouldn't add anything. Problems as is:
  1. Having the header link to List of Minion Skills makes a "See also" redundant
  2. It is not obvious that the header links to a list of skills that are for minions
  3. This nav bar doesn't link to all the skills for minions, just the ones that create minions
  4. Creating a page just for the skills that create minions is pointless to have for this box, since the box already links to the skills.
Conclusion: Why link at all? I think the link in the header is not useful, and that the "See Also" section in most of the minion animation skills serves a better purpose than the header link does. StatMan 22:58, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Without my interference, Falconeye has added the nav to the other pages. I removed the title link. I'm not sure it is necessary to have one, and since it was adding nothing, I removed it. StatMan 06:26, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Implementation[edit]

Since this has been proliferated throughout all miniondom, I have removed several 'Related skills', and sometimes the entire section, because some of these skills are not related to each other, except for the fact they create a minion. By that reasoning, all the spirit creation skills would be related, which could get hairy scary. Therefore this nav has been made and linked. It seems to fulfill its purpose (link minion skills for young minion masters, without cluttering the related skills section). StatMan 18:21, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

I personally don't think it should have been 'proliferated' throughout all miniondom. It's also the wrong color. Navigation templates have a purpose, but this is not one of them. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 16:26, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
How else can we have a newer minion master navigate the minion creation? Related skills section could be used, but these skills aren't very related, seeing as they differ in what they create, how many they create, and how they create. That seems to be too many differences between the skills to put them into the related skills section. How would you do it? StatMan 16:40, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
