About this page.[edit]

This page serves two functions: you can post questions here ("What's wrong with Palm Strike?") or you can start another topic here if you're too lazy to (or don't know how to) create a page. Everything that was formerly on this page has been moved to the main page, under relevant topics. User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 20:30, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

I have two balance questions.
1: Why does Anet not know what balance is?
I'd have to say because they listen to people who don't know what balance is (Read: Shadow Form, Palm Strike, Spirit Bond).
2: Why don't they read balance suggestions? ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 23:43, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Because people who don't know what balance is fill those pages with bad. User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 01:22, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
1: Why other people don't take heroes to GvG even though top guilds do it?
If you're referring to [ReX], that's just their play style. It was effective for about two weeks, but then people found out to beat them. User Ezekial Riddle sig.jpg Note: I haven't obsed in like a month
2: Elementalist don't have any other effective damage builds besides Fire Magic and Water ganking?
The other attributes do stuff besides straight damage. Earth is more Armor based, Air is more debuff based. User Ezekial Riddle sig.jpg
3: Why the Ritualist gets hit with nerfbats?
Because the skills are broken otherwise. Yes, they have few usable skills, but to keep those skills crazy strong just so the rit sees play is bad balancing. The best solutions are to rework their core mechanics (doubtful to happen) or dump them for PvP (25/90 all their skills for PvP) User Ezekial Riddle sig.jpg
4: The Dervish did not get hit with a "change skill functionality", nerf or buff in this update and probably won't get hit for the next trillion updates. Why?--Wealedout 14:49, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Neither did the paragon. ANet is trying to take things slow, at least until next month (the next scheduled mass Elite skill rework and content month.) --TalkRiddle 15:10, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Really, there is a scheduled elite skill rework?--Wealedout 21:35, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
5: Why is Mind Burn still bad after 3 years?
Because more having more skills become viable is actually bad for the game. Misery 17:12, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
6:The dices used for balance, are they loaded? How do you work with balance while playing Monopoly?--Wealedout 00:05, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

11 questions on skills[edit]

1.Natural Temper is just a waste of 1 adrenaline that doesn't even net 1 adrenaline. What's up with this skill?
Nobody playtested it.
2.Lyssa's Balance breaks apart from Rip Enchantment at 0 attribute and from any other skill whatsoever, why so awful?
Nobody playtested it.
3.Why Panic is called Panic?
Because in a balanced setting, it has abilities that make a losing team panic (-10 energy for res sig lawl). Unfortunately, every necro elite is better.
4.What's Illusion of Pain function?
To cause insane degen. If you can score kills before it runs out, you don't suffer the drawback.
5.Why Chaos Storm is at 30 seconds recharge?
Power Creep
6.Why Burning Shield is awful when compared to Shield Bash?
Nobody playtested it.
It's because they are in different classes and attributes. Same reason channeling nukes are weak compared to elementalist nukes. Necromas 00:12, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
7.It's called Vocal Was Sogolon, how come I dont see anyone using it?
Because Rt/P and P/Rt are sucky combinations.
8.Spirits die fast and nerfs to Ritualist skills makes things worse for the profession. Anything to keep these guys up or at least is there a buff to spirits to come or spirit skills?
No
9.Is Restoration broken?
The skill? Technically, yes, since it goes through frozen, but by usefulness, no.
10.Also, Lamentation is being abused by everyone(sarcasm), why isn't there a buff to it?
Anet doesn't know it's underused.
11.Why was Clamor of Souls nerfed?
The dice landed on 4. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 03:01, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Have fun guys/gals.--ShadowFog 16:07, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

1.Anet doesn't have a debugging team. They release stuff that's broken, and finally fix it a year after the players start complaining.
2.Anet has no idea what retroactive balancing is.
3.It was probably made near a release deadline.
4.If you recast it before it ends, it doesn't do any healing. This makes it exceptional in places with no hex removal and completely bad in places with heavy hex removal.
5.For the same reason that Fire Storm has 30 second recharge? I don't know.
6.I have no idea, but according to Shard, Anet rolls dice to do at least some part of their balancing.
7.Because paragons want to throw spears and wield a shield instead of a stupid bundle item? This skill needs a rework
8.I had an idea to make binding rituals active, not passive (think 1 second cast, 30-45 second duration, and 12 second recharge), but Anet doesn't listen
9.Yes, because some retard was stupid enough to put it in Communing.
10.Reread #2.
11.Previously you could make an awesome spike build with 8 Rt/A shadow steppers. Shadow step to the same foe, all use clamor of souls, and it instantly destroys anyone nearby. But now it's just a useless free flare every 8 seconds.
2 Thumbs Up, way up! Awesome response from "Anet"(Misery). Thanks Anet!--ShadowFog 01:44, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Ranged deep wound, unfair to rangers[edit]

How come rangers don't get deep wound? They're supposed to be experts in spreading conditions but they don't get deep wound? It's an insult that spears do more DPS than bows overall, work better with a pet, let you use a shield, have cheaper/better attack skills, and inflict deep wound on demand while bows cannot even with elite skills.

This balance issue is unacceptable. Either rangers should be given deep wound at least with elite skills, OR deep wound should be removed from spear attacks. Most likely the latter since a lot of good players seem to agree that ranged deep wound should not exist.72.64.2.163 01:01, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Apart from the ranged deep wound, the bow's attack skills are substantially better than anything the spear has. 145.94.74.23 08:17, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
You mean the higher energy cost, bad synergy with pets, bad attack rate, and no shield?72.71.209.90 02:46, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Unconditional hard interrupts with conditional damage every 5 seconds? Unconditional hard interrupts with 20-second disable every 10 seconds? Spammable +30 damage attacks that inflict Burning for longer than Searing Flames? Unblockable cripple? Unblockable interrupt +disable? Non-elite interrupt +daze? Preparations? And all of this at range longer than spears. They cost more energy, but since when do rangers care about energy? User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 01:27, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Ranged DW is bad. Remove it from spears. Dark Morphon 14:42, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

That's what I was thinking.
Spear Swoop on that second-to-last point btw. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 04:08, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

11 Skill Questions[edit]

  1. Why does A.Net claim to buff underused skills, like Palm Strike or Visions of Regret (and do it badly, as we all see what happened), but skills like Amity, Lacerate, Thunderclap are never seen, in neither PvP nor PvE (unless used by foes)?
  2. I just gotta ask... how, after so much time after the Palm Strike buff, it got nerfed again ("nerfed") but it is still OP (over-powered, took me a while to realize lol)and abused? Isn't it rather obvious that the old Palm Strike was awesome, but just shadowed by Metas?
  3. Why doesn't Disciplined Stance ends when you use an Energy skill, so it probably won't longer exist on PvP Metas, instead of killing it for other professions?
  4. How come Dancing Daggers counts as a Lead Attack, when it's not an Attack?
  5. Why is Scorpion Wire not used in places like AB, where it could fit well (apply it, run away, you get to foe which is knocked down, start Falling Spider or whatnot, rinse and repeat)?
  6. Why aren't Falling Spider/Falling Lotus Strike Lead Attacks?
  7. How come Thumpers are out of play now? I quote: "thumpers are cool"
  8. How come Assassins are a Melee profession, but got Deadly Arts which is a Spell/Hex Spell Attribute, that looks like it belongs to Necro? (whoops, CM anyone)?
  9. Why Rangers are so OP in PvP? How did the famous Melandrus Stride With Touch of Mending And Stuff got so used up by the community?
  10. Why isn't Double Attunement overused as it used to be?
  11. Ritualists are a Camping profession, they're power is in Spirit Spamming, but Guild Wars is a game where you and your team need to move all the time. How come they made Ritualists that way, if it's against GW's concept?

Hope I will get answers, and thanks beforehand. Titani Ertan 23:39, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

1) Because they know what they're doing but have no idea how to do it. 2) The old palm strike was bad. The problem with the new one is the condition. It means knockdowns every 8 seconds. Change it to Weakness or Bleeding and it won't cause problems. 3) Because a better solution is to end it if you use skills on other allies. 4) It's a game mechanic. 5) It's unreliable at best and dangerous to the user at worst. 6) Because Anet is lazy at balancing. 7) Because Wounding Strike and hexway are broken. 8) It's supposed to be part of the class design but Anet never really balanced it. 9) Rangers aren't OP, they only have a few overpowered skills and the rest of them are crap. 10) Because broken game mechanics that require no skill to use exist? 11) Perhaps they had a stupid design team back then. The design team has improved but in Build WArs there is no such thing as retroactive balance. 72.64.8.131 00:57, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the answers, disturbing as they are ;) Titani Ertan 10:19, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

more[edit]

  1. Why do they have a shadow form fetish?
  2. Why does it take minimum 6 months to realize that they fucked up the game again? --Boro 10px‎ 09:37, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
