Options:

Equipment[edit]

  • Superior Vigor, Pyromancer set (depends on what the other side runs). Add runes (attunement, vitae, etc) to taste.
  • 40/40 Illusion Magic set
  • HCT/HRT and HCT/15 energy set (mid energy Illusion Magic set)
  • High energy set (Illusion and Energy Storage set)
  • Defensive sets (-20% cripple shield can be useful)

Usage[edit]

  • Rapidly Activate and Cancel Second Wind till exhaustion is half bar or more. You MUST have high exhaustion to be effective! Maintain exhaustion at half bar (offense mode) or more when under heavy attack and extended survival is worth it.
  • Head to the enemy's near side quarry then snare and kill their jade carrying carrier, cover snare with wastrels and conjure nightmare.
  • Normal preferred snare order: Deep Freeze, Imagined Burden, Deep Freeze - for maximum snare time.
  • Do not kill or snare returning carriers with no slabs. Snare empty carriers that are advancing to mines, but do not kill them till they get near a mine (cover snare with Conjure Nightmare - with carrier regeneration = 110 damage/11 seconds = normally not lethal).
  • Avoid mobs - if there are way too many enemies (they are killing you too fast), target a carrier somewhere else. But if there are many and they are not killing you fast it means your team has fewer to deal with and should do better unless they are bots or very bad.
  • Snaring of carriers slows down enemy scoring even if the carriers don't die.
  • Use Distortion to pass longbow guard posts or block assassins/rangers/etc.
  • Use Distortion or Wastrel's Worry to remove enemy Wastrels. Wait a second or two for second enemy Wastrels before using distortion.
  • Use Second Wind to self heal or get energy.
  • Cancel skills to bait interrupts.

Counters[edit]

  • One good mesmer
  • One average mesmer + one average enemy, two above average enemies, or three average enemies.
  • Basically anything that can KD/interrupt well, or does more than 50 unblockable dps.
