Chat and Talk[edit]

Hello, Kraken, and welcome to the Official Guild Wars Wiki! If you need help with anything, don't hesitate to add a message to my talk page. I highly recommend that you check out the "Welcome to the wiki" page - it's extremely useful as an initial guide. Best of luck and happy editing! — Eloc 01:30, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Comments on the SoS Update[edit]

I enjoyed reading your comments on the latest skill balance and its effects upon Shroud of Silence, and I'm glad that somebody is on the same page as me! Don't mind the trolls, they're more interested in making themselves look important than they are really discussing the impact of the balance. Thanks again for your comments! some flaws[edit]

- Assassins should never be able to take away more then 60 % of a healthbar and that is including DW.Assassins should be spike ASSIST.
- 99 % of the skills should have a recharge of 3+ perhaps even 5+.Making skills to active will allow mindlessly spamming them. Also there is nothing skillfull about clicking a skill 100000 times in a row and you should actually think about the timing of using it.
- Assassins should be able to survive quite well if they invest in shadow arts.IMS,Shadow refuge.
- Assassins should have utility aswell. How awesome would it be for assassins to go in strike with max 3 attack skills go back to the midline and start midlining :)

Lilondra User Lilondra Sig.png*panda* 11:37, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Wrong. If assassin's are not allowed to deal 90%+ dmg in one skill chain you will notice that they immediately will be dropped from teams in favor of elementalists that can easily deal 80%+ dmg to an entire enemy team. Watch gvg in observer mode, that is what you will see. skill do need to be active because with a limited energy supply hitting a skill even 3-4 times at 5 energy will completely deplete an assassin's energy pool, which is really the idea, if they are being attacked when they try to spike someone they will have to defend themdelves or die and if they defend then their spike looses it's effectiveness and the assassin is thwarted. also assassins are not midline characters, they do not have ranged weapons for a reason, assassin's should (opinion) warp in, attack and preferably kill, warp out, and lick their wounds for half a minute or so before finding a new target. Also the condition on Horns of the ox should be applied to a lot of other assassin skills as well, if they hit an enemy that is not of by themselves then the assassin's skills loose some effectiveness, this allows for some defense from assassins merely by playing in something more of a team context. Capital Punishment[edit]

Ok here is a question that I would like an answer to. The other day I was hanging out in LA trying to buy some bones or something like that, when I noticed someone going around spamming a WTB Guildwars, WoW, Aion accounts message. They were offering amounts of ectos and gold that were enormously high. Well I commented to one of my guildies that wouldn't it be funny to go up to one of them, say "hey I will sell you a buddy key for 600k" then once they have paid say "haha thanks" and flip their name onto your ignore list. this started a discussion about weather it would be a bannable offence because, one they could not report you without getting their own account banned, 2 yes you sort of broke the EULA by scamming them, but you only scammed them because they were breaking the EULA themselves and worse than you did. This ended up turning into a "is it stealing to steal from a thief" and "capital punishment is not considered Murder" discussion and that it would actually be beneficial for anet to encourage people to scam the account buyers, because in scamming them you are taking an amount of in game cash that would otherwise be used to buy accounts, which in turn would lower Anet's overall profits. so My question is this, would it be considered a bannable offence to scam someone who is buying accounts, by pretending to be selling an account or buddy key and then leaving with the payment. Just a question Kraken 22:18, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

i have a question for YOU why dont you put it on one of the game designers pages,

Micro transaction game[edit]

moved from Feedback talk:Linsey Murdock

Hey Lindsey, I would just like to express my concern at a recent trend I have seen developing in GW. That is, the rise of the micro transaction system, or selling in game stuff for real money. What really attracted me to guildwars when I first started playing was that there was no subscription fee, and you could not simply pay money to buy in game stuff, The game was based on playing and everyone was on an equal footing. Having the latest greatest coolest stuff was not a matter of spending more it was just that you played the game and worked towards getting the armor or weapons you wanted. However, lately I have seen just about half of all the new cool features being sold through the in games store, and not all of them are purely prestige things like the costumes, some like the storage upgrades actually do give you something that is very useful in the game. Now I never did mind things like the pvp unlock pack, because those are more like a separate game, made for people who are really only looking to play in player versus player mode, but so many of the recent updates cost money that I am getting a little worried that Guildwars 2 will become a horrible micro transaction game, when you just buy in game items and wealth for real world money. If Anet is just doing this now because they need a way to pay the bills until guildwars 2 is released then that is fine and I understand. But if Guildwars 2 is made into that kind of game, you can forget about me bothering to play it at all. Kraken 19:12, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

This has nothing to do with Linsey's journal, so I moved it to your talk page. If you'd like to make a suggestion for them to consider re: GW2, head over here and have a go at it. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 19:22, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
I wouldnt worry too much about the issue tbh. Previous microtransactions, as you listed, are primarily cosmetics. The few useful ones are entirely optional. Storage for instance, you can do fine without, but for those who do wish to spend the money, as for Anet, it's a win-win. Added content if you choose to spend the xx bucks on it, and Anet gets a nice source of income on the side. No practical advantage over those who choose not to buy said content in any competative sense. See it as a sort of a bonus that goes both ways. Same with costumes, it's a nice extra, but hardly a requirement for playing competatively. If you like the idea and think it worth the money, by all means, make the purchase. If not, thats perfectly fine aswell. As I know Microtransaction games, spending money will actually allow you an edge over those who don't, as added motivation to purchase, which would go entirely against the GW system and spirit. While I obviously don't speak for Anet in any way, I don't see them shooting themselves in the leg by unhinging the game economy or "balance" by implementing anything of the kind. Costumes definately have no advantage when playing competatively, given that you can't wear them in PvP arenas, although this could possibly be to stop griefers from going into an arena naked so they will die extra quick.--Orry 16:13, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
It's fine for rich people to buy a full set of useless everlasting tonics, but it's not fine for everyone else to have a costume/character recustomization/wings/etc? Ok. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә Assassin-tango-icon-20.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 22:06, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
