Uploading the GuildWiki profession icons[edit]

Beat me to uploading your icons. =) Rapta 17:57, 7 February 2007 (PST)

I'm glad I did too, I might have agreed to the FDL, but I want my name on those icons! ;) lol LordBiro 17:58, 7 February 2007 (PST)
Can I ask a huge huge favour, I was wondering if you could work your magic and make me a little sword icon please :) I have one now File:Scourge-Sig.gif but it doesn't look like a sword. You're probably really busy so I understand if you cant. -- Scourge 00:08, 8 February 2007 (PST)
Hey Scourge, I am a bit busy at the moment, but I recommend you try using something like Inkscape to produce the outlines for your icon, and then a bitmap editor like photoshop or the GIMP to apply some effects to it. :) LordBiro 09:02, 8 February 2007 (PST)
Ill give it a whirl, see how I go. Thanks :) -- Scourge 16:19, 8 February 2007 (PST)
I have no idea how use it :( I think ill just go without for the moment :) -- Scourge 00:11, 9 February 2007 (PST)

Would you take a look at Talk:Main Page#browser icon needed. Thanks. --Gem (talk) 04:22, 9 February 2007 (PST)

Curiousity[edit]

So I'm reading over all the various policy discussion on my lunch break, trying to participate and such, and it seems like they're all flying around with people tossing in tidbits or simply repeating tidbits. Making it overall difficult to nail down a solid policy everyone, or most everyone, will accept. So the question is, since you've been around a long time, have you ever, or perhaps how often, are you tempted to come around and say something like : Look, stay on topic and get off your soapboxes! :D Lojiin 12:09, 9 February 2007 (PST)

It will get better in a few days as some policies get accepted and people can get more concentrated on the remaining stuff. --Gem (talk) 13:04, 9 February 2007 (PST)
I'm not the kind of person who would try and stop other people from having a debate. If people go off topic for whatever reason, or if people have their own agenda, then that's up to them. Most of the time if you are patient then a discussion will come back to the topic at hand, and if it doesn't then it's easy to give it a nudge :) LordBiro 13:15, 9 February 2007 (PST)
Heh, cool. :) Just curious, every so often I just stop reading the pages for awhile, come back later, when things have settled a bit more. Lojiin 13:33, 9 February 2007 (PST)

Contacting Tanaric...[edit]

Ok, I give up. I have sent Tanaric an e-mail a long time ago and got no response. I know he said he was taking a break, but I haven't even received a response acknowledging receipt, so, if you have other methods of contacting him, can you please ask him to check his e-mail and respond to this request or confirm that he has not received it? Thanks. --Karlos 14:43, 6 March 2007 (EST)

I spoke to him earlier and he said he would respond. LordBiro 15:00, 8 March 2007 (EST)

Your user page[edit]

I like it. Looks good and includes all information necessary. Good job! -- Gem (gem / talk) 10:46, 12 March 2007 (EDT)

Thanks Gem :) I'm not sure if it's finished, but I wanted to do something a little different from everyone else :) LordBiro 11:13, 12 March 2007 (EDT)
The biggest praise on a wiki is to get copied. I am sure there will be similar pages popping up soon. --Xeeron 11:44, 12 March 2007 (EDT)
If there is then I will be forced to mount a campaign of attribution, burning and charring the landscape of the wiki with user boxes demanding that I get some credit! Mwuhahaha! LordBiro 11:49, 12 March 2007 (EDT)

RL[edit]

Unfortunately some real life issues have come up, so I won't be about as much as I'd like the next day or two. Sorry! LordBiro 07:34, 15 March 2007 (EDT)

Hm, we need to write up a policy on how much real life sysops and bureaucrats are allowed to have, (20 hours a week sounds like a good number to me). Or maybe we could have some pay-per-life system; revert 100 vandalisms and you get to spend an hour off the wiki; complete three crusades and you're granted an entire day of real life. Mmmm, that'd work. And we could have someone check periodically if the sysops are on the wiki or if they've bailed: "Sign here in the next five minutes, otherwise you'll be considered to have skipped work and will have to spend the rest of the day in the Builds namespace as punishment". Yeah, that'd definitely work. --Dirigible 07:44, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
*Swings watch in front of Biro's eyes* You are getting sleepy, very sleepy. Now repeat after me. You live for the wiki *Biro repeats*. The wiki is your home now *Biro repeats*. Your family is the wiki community *Biro repeats*. Now, I will count back from 5 and you will awaken with a new found sense of duty to the wiki. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. :D
Just messing with ya. Hope everything is well and take your time. We'll be here when you get back. Take care! — Gares 07:55, 15 March 2007 (EDT)

Div formatting[edit]

Hope you don't mind but I've copied the DIV tags from your page. I like the font and the smaller size means I can add more to the page without breaking the page length rule. Any objections just shout up. I've but a mention on my page about it. Cheers. >> Vandal2k7 (Vandal2k7) 04:44, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

Hey Vandal2k7, feel free! Since you're basically just copying a font and a size I don't think there's any need to give me credit for it. The fact that you let me know about it on this talk page is enough! If you want to remove the thanks notice then I won't be offended. :) LordBiro 05:39, 28 March 2007 (EDT)
Na, credit where credit's due. Besides, if I leave the notice there it makes it look like I have friends lol. Cheers. >> Vandal2k7 (Vandal2k7) 07:33, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

Lupin's[edit]

How are you finding the popups on this wiki? I'm not having any issues with it at all, that I've really noticed. Seems to have ported over nicely :) Fox 06:29, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

I think it's fantastic! I'm not a Wikipedia user, so the first I heard of it was your post on GWW:TECH. It's very liberating to be able to see small diffs on RC without clicking, and being able to jump straight to talk pages when you hover over an article link. I'm sure there are more uses that I haven't even considered yet :) LordBiro 07:14, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
And the link to user space is great! LordBiro 07:48, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

Builds[edit]

Yeah, thanks. And i created the build earlier today, just thought posting it here also would be cool. thanks for the info wotz --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Wotz .

GuildWiki[edit]

Oh my... I hope I didn't break the wiki by inserting the wipe template in the tested build template. Did it go down to update the hundreds of pages including the template? No page loads for me. -- Gem (gem / talk) 11:01, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Guildwiki is still working for me. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 11:02, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Same here. — Gares 11:03, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Took a good minute when I purged Build:Mo/Me Barrier Bond Monk and loaded another page — Skuld 11:03, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
OMG GEM! You broke the wiki, it's not loading for anyone!!! LordBiro 11:04, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Actually it's working for me now. I still think it wasn't a good idea. -- Gem (gem / talk) 11:05, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Probably not :P Why not stick it into the skill box too, just for good measure? :P LordBiro 11:07, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Yeah, that would be a good idea... not. :P -- Gem (gem / talk) 11:08, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Last I checked, GuildWiki was still configured to batch all template updates to articles at one time each day - so the edit shouldn't impact anything until someone either edits a build, or the batch kicks in automatically or is manually launched by someone with server access. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 11:09, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Well, didn't Skulds purge on the monk build do just that? I think I need to remember next time not to edit a high use template so hastely, this brings memories back from the skill quick reference times... -- Gem (gem / talk) 11:13, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
I also added it to the "untested" template :-) --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 11:15, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
You're a glutton for punishment, Barek :P By the way, I don't know if what you said above is correct, every test build I can find seems to have this notice on it now. LordBiro 11:18, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Yea, I noticed that too. I wonder if the batching was disabled for some reason. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 11:25, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Thx[edit]

5am, not really noticing things ehhe. :) - BeXoR 15:10, 8 April 2007 (EDT)

No problem ;) LordBiro 18:01, 8 April 2007 (EDT)

Off topic - image tool[edit]

Biro, not sure if you're the best person to ask. I was wondering if you could recommend a decent quality open-source (or otherwise free/inexpensive) version of a tool for manipulating digital photo images - adding effects (border fade-out, and possibly layering images), plus the basics (red-eye, text, etc). I have a one-time need for such a tool, so I don't want to spend a lot for something that I may not need again for quite some time, if ever. Any recommendations would be appreciated. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 21:59, 12 April 2007 (EDT)

Hey Barek, if you're on Windows then you could give Paint.NET a try. The other obvious choice is GIMP, although I don't use either myself! I hope one of these two is useful! LordBiro 03:24, 13 April 2007 (EDT)

onlyinclude[edit]

Is there a reason there are onlyinclude tags on the game update page? Having them there or not doesn't seem to have any difference. - BeX 20:58, 18 April 2007 (EDT) Nevermind I figured it out. :P - BeX 21:00, 18 April 2007 (EDT)

Hehe, yeah, it's for the News page, that no one has ever really bothered about! So whether they're needed or not is debatable :) LordBiro 04:20, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
