New vehicle for user suggestions

The suggestion area of this wiki is horribly non-functional and is starting to create serious dissent. The only thing that anyone can seem to agree on is that suggestions don't belong on the wiki as it is too much like a forum. Since these areas were created to alleviate a lot of the traffic to ArenaNet staff user pages and the idea for collecting suggestions here was originally Gaile's, I would like to ask if ArenaNet has considered creating an alternate vehicle for player suggestions for both Guild Wars, and Guild Wars 2 that could be put into place instead of having it here on the wiki. Possibly a suggestions forum attached to guildwars.com. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 23:27, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

I agree with that question, the suggestion page is a horrid mess. Guild Wars 2 Suggestion page doesn't seem to have that problem but most people want to avoid the same layout for reasons that have not been verified clear enough. -- WoBUser Wings of Blood sig icon.png 00:00, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
This is my hope for solving this problem. I would be extremely happy to know if that discussion has ended without any result or if it's still ongoing. Erasculio 00:08, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) I'm pretty sure Anet has thought about an offical forums, but decided against it. I'm not sure that would be the same thing as a suggestions forum tho. Some decisions would also need to be made as to what to do with all the current suggestions that have been posted and such. — Wolf User Great Darkwolf User Image paw.png 00:12, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
By the way, i remember sometime ago we asked from ArenaNet on their stance about the wiki and the suggestion sections. Did we get an answer at the time?--Fighterdoken 00:16, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Nope, User talk:Emily Diehl/Official information archive 4#ArenaNet and the namespace. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 00:17, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
If ArenaNet does not wish to make a decision on it, or again will not deign to reply on the matter, I think it's time we decide whether we should keep it. It's been nothing but pointless filtering and management by a handful of users whose time can be better devoted to filling up stub articles. As for attaching forums, well, there are countless numbers of general or specialised fan forums out there with a board or two for suggestions and ideas. No need for ArenaNet to purposefully set one up. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 07:07, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
The only issue I see with removing it from the wiki if ArenaNet doesn't supply an official alternative is that the wiki users all know that various members of the ArenaNet team do utilize the wiki and all those suggestions will just end up back on their user pages, which defeats the entire purpose of having the ArenaNet namespace as the official ArenaNet interaction space. I do agree however that we have requested ArenaNet input on this subject more than once with pretty much zero response from them, and I would be in support of eliminating the suggestion pages, if further restrictions were placed on the mentioned talk pages indicating that suggestions will be removed. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 08:17, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
I completely agree with Wyn. IMO the main problem in removing the suggestions section is how, in order to avoid a big mess following that, we would need permission to remove suggestions from the Arena Net staff's talk pages. I think that would require either each individual user to agree, or a statement from Arena Net allowing us to do so. Erasculio 10:00, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
I also agree with Wyn. The suggestion pages are not proper for a wiki and are far to difficult to maintain. Ways on how to improve them end up being screaming matches with far too many opinions floating around that it is near impossible to reach concensus on how to handle them. I am afraid that if we don't get a response for ArenaNet, we may have to take matters into our own hands.... --Shadowphoenix Happy Halloween 13:39, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Yeah Wyn's right, when i saw gw suggestions and this page first i thought about it and ive been thinking of posting it but never got aroound to it so regina TELL THEM that we want direct contact and still be able to discuss it with others but it has to be heard by you!!Simpaklimp 15:24, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
As long as it is not just a suggestion box and suggestions can be discussed, I'm fine with whatever the metod. But an unique official one would be the best, since forums could remove suggestions from there and redirect everyone to the same spot. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 19:00, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Wyn: We are considering various options, but for GW1 all we have right now as a vehicle for suggestions are the wiki, messages to members of the community team, and various fansite forums. Before the wiki was in place, players posted suggestions on the fansite forums, and that practice continues. The reality is that, due to the very nature of what a wiki is, forums are a lot better for discussion than wikis. As everyone has experienced, it's really hard to actually discuss something on a wiki. Players have always had the fansite forums to discuss suggestions. Players have always been able to (and they do quite frequently) send in suggestions to us directly via email or PM. There are already ways for you to give your suggestions and feedback to us. There are no plans to add additional methods at the moment for GW1, but in the future we are considering several methods. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 23:20, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
If hypothetically the community here decided to remove the suggestions sections from the wiki, what would happen with the Arena Net staff's talk pages? Would you forbid users from posting suggestions there and deal with them yourselves, or would you ask for the community to help in removing suggestions, or would you leave the suggestions in the talk pages and address them when possible? Erasculio 23:28, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Regina, I think the question was more about what you would do if the wiki got rid of its suggestion places, and how that would fit in with ArenaNet - would you create another medium for suggestions (an official one)? Would you guide people to the forums and other methods of contacting you? Would you leave it to the community to take care of your suggestion input? Also, do you have any response regarding the list of questions asked to Emily at the link above? It's been quite a while. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 23:34, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Right now, we don't have the resources to provide or create an official alternative if the wiki community decided to remove the Suggestions pages. The forums are already regularly visited by staff, though less so the non-English forums because staff do not necessarily have the language skills. The wiki is another place to check. If that happened and people started posting suggestions to staff talk pages, it would get unruly, like what happened to Isaiah's talk page -- until the community started assisting with management of that process. We do not have a response to the list of questions yet. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 02:14, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Artwork contest

For each entry, submit a JPEG image of your original work (scanned or photographed) or a saved file of your computer-generated art and attach it to an email. Are video's allowed too or a powerpoint? Or what is allowed exactly? 145.53.242.142 07:00, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Videos are permitted, however they may be too large to email to us. In the Halloween Art contest, people put their submissions on YouTube and sent us a link. Please be sure you read the rules, and ensure that you have an original creation. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 18:49, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
How about the music of the video is it allowed to use music from guildwars and how about other music tracks? 145.53.242.142 23:53, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
You cannot use material from other sources besides Guild Wars. For example, if you did a rearrangement of music from GW with your own tools/instruments, or used existing GW music, that would be okay. Using music from another artist (Coldplay, for instance) would not be okay. Remember, what you submit should be your own work. No repeats of what happened in the Halloween Art Contest, please. :-) --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 01:06, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
You like coldplay?:D 145.53.242.142 19:50, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
