Sweepstakes
Seriously, when do you start holding sweepstakes for the European players? You know, it's not only the yankees who are playing Guild Wars, but for the past 3 years almost every (if not every single one) sweepstake has been for US / Canada only. And no, law issues aren't a valid reason, since sweepstakes can also legally be held in Europe. -- (gem / talk) 21:37, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- www.guildwars.com has a link to the european version. But, it tells you to wait until the 29th. BlazeRick 22:03, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, and last year's sweepstake was also there for Europe. I entered myself. BlazeRick 22:05, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Mmm... Suggestion to avoid any misunderstoods : if there are a few Sweepstakes for US and Europe etc... why not putting a link for each in the guildwars.com page advertisement or the logo of the Sweepstakes, most people checking the .com 1st and not the eu.guildwars.com subdomain ? I got tricked as well ! Davor Belegnaur 22:31, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- If you go to the main site, you will see a line on the big banner at the top that says "Choose your region!" and a link to the European contest on the right side. --Regina Buenaobra 22:33, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Are there plans in the future to include non-oficially supported locations for these kinds of promotions. Other companies bypass any (possible, because they don't check either) legal problem by using contest agreements that assign the user any asociated cost that may derivate from the participation, so i don't see why Anet doesn't pull something simmilar.
- At worst, making a "non-supported" contest where prices are only assinged in-game (because, you know, there are players in those countries south of the wall too) :).--Fighterdoken 22:42, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Interesting how well hidden the European sweepstakes are. There is no info or link about it on the US sweepstakes page, and there's also no in fo on eu.guildwars.com, which is the European front page. I did check both yesterday, and now again after reading the comments here, but no link is to be found apart from the one that was posted above. -- (gem / talk) 08:26, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Euro sweepstakes are up now, just entered myself. Two concerns after entering- Regina, I hope you have some info on this. I wasn't asked for personal details when filling out the sweepstake form; not even my email address. How will the winners be tracked down if there's no way of contacting them? Certainly not by means as dodgy as IP tracking, I hope? Another issue... apparently a list of European winners can be gotten from NC after a certain date. How will this conform to privacy regulation, and will winners have the option of staying anonymous if they wish it? Any info on these points would be great. Thanks! :) -- Elv 18:00, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- I just filled it out now, and there was an Email Address field. -- Brains12 \ Talk 18:32, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- At the very bottom of the entry form, there is a field which prompts you to enter your email address. The contest regulations for Europe are governed by English law, therefore it conforms to the laws and privacy regulations in England. If you win, you will be contacted by email. If you don't wish to have your name listed on the winners list, please communicate this to the NCsoft staff that handles the administration of the contest. I am told that they will accomodate you if you want your name to remain private. --Regina Buenaobra 18:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- The "Your Email Address" field was NOT there when I first filled out the form, so my bet is that they forgot to add it and realised it soon after. I checked my entry form, you see, and below question 28 (where the email field is now) is nothing but the submit button. Thanks for the answers, Regina. :) -- Elv 19:53, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Regina just to let you know question 28 seems bugged, if you answer statues it resets itself and won't submit. Also did anyone else find it funny that they are calling an LG E500, a top of the range laptop? LOL -- Salome 21:09, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well, compared to my pc, yeah, is a top range one. What i found funny is that in the "Activity you enjoy the most in Guild Wars" you could select "Griefing" XD.--Fighterdoken 21:12, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- I was so tempted to pick that just to amuse myself! lol -- Salome 21:20, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- How about Puerto Rico? What is it the dis-allows Puerto Rico from participating in sweepstakes and contests? Thanks. --Nekki 21:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about Puerto Rico, but I know that residents of Quebec are ineligible for many contests due to the province's broad anti-gambling laws. -- Gordon Ecker 22:09, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) do you know whats odd, just checked the prices of the two computers and the LG E500 sells from roughly £480 - £580, where as the Alienware Area 51 m15x sells from roughly £980 - £1100. Seems a bit odd that the states gets a grand prize worth twice the cost of the Euro prize, not a complaint however, just an idle observation. -- Salome 02:05, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe the prize is based on the userbase for each location (more people = better prize). But hey, Euro's have the chance to win a prize at least... --Fighterdoken 02:10, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not actually sure that America has a larger player base than all of the EU combined. But yeh, yay us, at least we can win something. EDIT: just checked; EU population = 728 Million, where as USA + Canada + Mexico = 446 Million. -- Salome 02:31, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Firt, i apologize for keeping this conversation off-topic. Second, it's USA + Canada (-a few local exceptions). Mexico doesn't exists promotion-wise, but i would think that the american (as in, north-american) player base is still actually a lot large than the european one. I mean, China has like a bajillion people living in there, but last week their Rollerbeetle racing territory had 20 people maybe.--Fighterdoken 02:55, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeh matey, isn't that cause the Chinese server is a closed server now and that Cloud 9 never actually pushed the game? Anyhoo that's beside the point. I understand what you're saying and you're probably right. Just to amuse myself though I worked out eligibility for the contest based on eligible locations alone and it pans out as: EU competition area populous = 498,336,402 (roughly), USA Competition area populous = 337,037,342 (roughly). Although i think it would be interesting to see the stats on EU player numbers compared to US player numbers. Anyhoo I went way off topic, so getting back to my original point, Give us Euro's Alienware! As its way sexier than LG. LG can't even make good phones, never mind comps. ;o) Also that's not to mention that the Alienware computer has keys that glow! I dont even care if beside that, the Alienware come was just a big paper weight (which it isn't as its spanky!), the glowey keys alone makes it worthwhile IMHO! :) -- Salome 03:04, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Actually the North American grand prize is just the laptop with a retail of $1799 which at current exchange rate is about £915. The European grand prize includes the laptop, a razer mouse and pad, a set of razer headphones, a set of skill pins, a guild wars tee shirt and hoodie, and a choice of any Guild Wars game. While the retail price is a bit lower at £782 or about $1539. You also have to remember collectors items like skill pins don't really have a set value. So I'd say that thay are about even.Dunyas 03:06, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- LOL, you have a very valid point. although you can't really work it out based on the exchange rate, its better to just compare the cost of the same computer on the EU alienware site which comes out (at minimum specs) at about £980-ish as what you can buy in the states for a certain amount of money isnt the same in the EU even taking into consideration the exchange rate. Also one big swankey comp is way better than middle of the range comp with added extras that most peeps won't care about, but then that's just my opinion. Other people might feel differently. -- Salome 03:20, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- I know what your saying, but before you it sounded like you thought the Europe prize was much less than the North American. I've personally have delt with Alienware products in the past and was quite disappointed. So for me, I'd rather the European prize pack than another Alienware. Though if I win, I won't turn down the prize either =P The Alienware Area-51 m15x is a sweet machine, but so was my Area-51m 766 which was plagued with problems which I had to fix on my own. But your right, some people see big and shiney and think better while others think more stuff is better. Dunyas 05:07, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Arenanet doesn't choose the prices, sponsors do. BlazeRick 18:16, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, it seems Arenanet is announced as sponsor. Even then, they are still bound to rules/laws in every participating country.

Guild Wars Card Game
Just been looking around the card shops in town and saw several different trading card games, WoW has one (saw about a dozen or so people having a little mini tournament) was interesting to see. Is there any plans for Guild Wars to have such a thing? 203.173.242.13 00:05, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- There actually is a card game ... you just can't buy cards in any store, but you have to download them and print them. You can get the cards and I belive also rules of how to play here (someone correct me if I'm wrong) --Шєвч [TALK] @ 08:51, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think you mean Sealed Play, but that's just a means of getting a random set of cards, and then you make some builds of those, and do a scrimmage.--Yanman.be 08:59, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Those cards are used for creating "sealed deck" teams for PvP play in the game, not an actual card game. -- (gem / talk) 09:01, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- But it's true that it would be nice to hav any kind of in-game minigame (other than the janken we can already play with rock/paper/scissors emotes). While having to wait or having to stand still n one place you may get bored. And with a minigame of that kind you could even play with pugs~you have nothing to talk about. MithTalk 09:10, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- A little off topic. Is there a computer program that would simulate Sealed Deck? I'd be fun to play some guild skrimishes using this, but I can't really print any cards. — Poki#3 10:43, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I remember we used a website from Servants of Fortuna. It had an extensive rule set, it's all you need. You can find it here --Yanman.be 11:03, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
