About user space images[edit]
Hello Woop, one or more of the images you have recently uploaded have not been named properly as per our image policy. This states that images that are uploaded for use in the User namespace need to be named in the following format: User <User name> <short description>.<file extention>
. For example, User Woop Simon the dark one.jpg
. Also, please remember to enter {{User image}} in the Summary field. Thanks. br12 • (talk) • 19:33, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- You didn't need to reupload the profession icons :) you can use them directly. Any image that's used in the main articles can be used in your user space. Only those images that you upload specifically for your user or guild page needs to follow the naming convention. We're not that strict :D -- ab.er.rant 16:44, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Question about your images =[edit]
Hey, Great looking userspace. I had a question for you. I use photoshop all the time and looking at your characters pictures are making me drool. They are beautful. How did you edit them? Did you use photoshop, and if so, how did you do it and what format did you save them in? I would love to do this with all my characters. Thanks Devi Talk 01:15, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, wow, thank you! What a complement! Well, basically..
- With Photoshop CS3, select the character with whatever combination of the Quick Selection Tool, Magnetic Lasso Tool, and Marquee Selection tools. I used mostly quick selection because it's new to me and I'm lazy, but Magnetic is often the best choice. Remember that Alt is to begin to subtract a selection and Backspace allows you to back up Magnetic Lasso mistakes.
- With that selection, use Refine Edge to get a nice selection.
- CTRL-J (Command-J on Mac) to copy the selection to a new layer.
- Select All (CTRL-A).
- Copy
- New document with transparent background, size should match what you just copied. Paste in here.
- Do whatever else you want to the image to enchance it, like Levels & Auto Contrast. Add a gradient in the background and a soft dark glow on the outside.
- To save with transparency - Save for Web (PNG), otherwise JPG.
Have fun! Woop ‧ talk ‧ 01:35, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- I knew how to get the character and whatnot, but the biggest thing I was concerned with was the filesaving. When I saved it in my format it looked like crap (see my page). Every time I tried saving it, the wiki said the file was too big. Suggestions? Devi Talk 01:46, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- Instead of saving your pics as GIF, try JPG. Save for Web & Devices, then JPEG - and make sure you optimize is so that it looks good for 150kb down. Also, if you reduce dimensions, specifying sharper bicubic makes it look pretty sharp :). Does that help you? Woop ‧ talk ‧ 01:57, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm getting updated photos of all my characters. We will see. Thanks for the tips! Devi Talk 02:02, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- I got my first one updated here http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User:Devi59/Devi_The_Dark what do you think? Devi Talk 18:14, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

MAC![edit]
Is there a Mac version of GW? I need one. Spawn Legacy 16:09, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- No sir. Windows only. With Boot Camp you can install legal Windows XP (non-OEM) on your Mac so easily. Please do yourself a huge favor and avoid Vista. Woop ‧ talk ‧ 16:29, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- So, if you had windows XP on your MAC, normal GW would install and play regardless of your severe lack in right click? Spawn Legacy 16:48, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- Macs have come sold their computers with 4 button mice since '05, and have been able to use 2 button mice since OS 9 (I had a friend who had a first generation iMac who used a 2-button Logitech mouse). I just recently upgraded my Mac with a 3870 Mac and PC Edition and a MS Habu mouse. The Habu mouse is pretty good, although I think I would have been much happier with a new Intellimouse Explorer 3.0a. No one should settle for the Apple Mighty Mouse – It has a couple pros, like 4 way scrolling, but I think it's outweighed by the cons.

- My computer is running Vista Home Premium because my OEM XP can't be installed on the machine. If I hadn't fell for all the hype, I would have bought [the more expensive] XP retail, and I'd be lots happier with that. It's not just game performance that takes a substantial hit, I have other annoyances, too. The big one is that the connection to the Internet fails almost hourly, unlike when I am using Mac OS X. - I had no idea mouses could be so exciting. Nor do I have any idea whether the plural mouses exists. Regardless, ta for the insight. I've come to the conclusion that getting windows on iMac is a little too much trouble for what Guild Wars is worth. (its for a friend {colon} she probably won't be too hyped about changing her OS) Spawn Legacy 18:11, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
