Foremost, I'm afraid what this does is create grind. A weapon should not be something where you need to farm or be repetitive with it in order to make it more effective. Additionally, you cite that a "plain, street rat-type" blade should be just as effective as the "rarest" blade. Keeping in mind a slight nod from Anet that "some" weapons will be inherently more powerful than others, we are left with the age-old mechanic of "magic" to define a weapon's power. This "plain" dagger a street rat would wield has nothing special about it, far different than a weapon that could have been crafted by an ancient swordsman and imbued with powerful magics. So you see, these two items could never be equal in strength. Most importantly, to me, is the fact that the more you use a weapon, in reality the less effective it becomes from wear and tear. I'm sorry, but I can't see this idea working from any angle I look at it. I understand you want a simple blade so as to be more in tune with your character, but simple is as simple does. Another thing is your street rat is help to save the world from the dragons, I think he might find better weapons in his travels. Cause he is reuniting Destiny's Edge and join one the 3 orders in the game. Certainly a long his travels some one will reward him or he will find a better sword than the one he could afford on the streets. I mean that is just from a RPing/Personal story view point. **Possible spoiler: Ghosts of Ascalon** If you have read the Ghosts of Ascalon book you know when Dougal agrees to help the Vigil they give him a new sword, one that was much better than the one he previously had, and also look much nicer. **Spoilers End** So in fact why your street rat has such a nice sword is in fact just another RP/Personal story element you could fill in on your own. The "level up" function is already implemented if you read the newest GW2 developer's blog (09/30/10). Theres a upgrade function applied to all armor and weapons where you apply crests, similar to runes, insignias, or mods, that increase in bonuses as you use more of the same crest type. The example crest they gave has some impressive bonuses once you used the maximum of 6 of the same type. One crest could be applied to each armor/weapon I believe, allowing for some interesting boost combinations to go along with skills, attributes, traits, and the like. As for actual experience-gaining weapons for upgrades, I see no point. Their Transmutation system (also mentioned in that blog) allows you to take 2 items of the same type and apply the stats from one item to the skin of the other item. This might possibly require a micro-transaction, as they said the item that lets you do this is obtained "From their in-game store," so not easy to get but the functionality is still entirely there.--Neithan DiniemUser Talk:Neithan Diniem 18:08, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
