Talk:Damage reduction

heres a situation, people seem to think -5dmg taken 20% chance mod on a shield is superior, however if you say, use a stance half the time, you can find that a -2 dmg while in a stance mod is superior(only if you are using a stance half the time) heres the math behind it, lets say you are being attacked by another warrior with a sword, the attack rate is 1.33 a sec, so over 60 secs, heres what a -5dmg(20%) mod can do. 60/1.33=roughly 45.11 thats how many times you'll be attacked over a time period of one minute. so 45.11 x .2 = 9.022 thats an average chance of how many times the -5 dmg mod will work, so.. 9.022 x 5 is about 45 dmg reduced, now time for the -2 mod

heres an actual situation, my warrior uses shield stance and his tactics is set to 14, so it lasts 8 secs with a recharge of 15, so i am using a stance 53.33333333... % of the time so .5333333333333 x 60(60 secs) = 32 secs, so for 32 secs you are under a stance so 32/1.33(the attack rate) is 24.06 now since the shield makes it so u take -2 dmg while under a stance and you are attacked 24.06 times you now multiply 24.06 x 2 and get 48.12 which is roughly 3 less dmg youll take than the 20% mod however the 20% mod isnt guaranteed so you can take more or less, me on the otherhand i prefer the guaranteed reduction cuz i tend to have bad luck. also i understand that most people dont have tactics as set as high as me, so 20% is better in some cases. i just want people to understand that you might not be getting the most out of your mods on your shields or weapons, every little bit helps. --Arrythmia 19:39, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
