I have before, but many more times I've tried I have been unable to kill him. When I did kill him, I ignored the grawl entirely and left Devona to fight for herself. I ran around the hill and approached Vatlaaw so that I was between him and the entrance to Regent Valley. I think he got stuck on the spirit that he summons, because he just stood there while I killed him.
