PvE[edit]

These days, PvE is dominated by single-use builds lacking any sort of creativity whatsoever. In high-end areas, builds can be determined simply by the profession; if you don't have the right build, you don't get to play. But is neccesarially the right track to take?

PvE should be fun. Of course winning that mission or completing that time trial quest should be neccesary, but shouldnt you have fun doing it? Did anyone have "fun" running Ursuan? Do people have fun running the same crap over and over wihtout any diversity? Running Cryway, BA rangers, WoD necros? Are those "fun" as you run them constantly without any changes whatsoever?

Many people claim that PvE is too easy. They also complain about overpowered and "useless" skills. Maybe PvE is easy because you're running your same overpowered WoD/Cryway/Ursuan builds? PvE should be somewhat lenient, yes, but you should at least have fun doing it. Shouldnt fun lie within the build?

A personal favorite build of mine is the Martyr air elementalist. A friend of mine (lets call him Joe) plays his three hero SF fire magic gimmick that he's played for the past year. Both players take on Naphui Quarter. Sure, Joe will be breezing through the mission destroying enemies left and right, but whats the point if he's not enjoying himself as he does it? Chances are if he's run the same build over and over without an diversity, using overpowered skills that advanced players can't handle, he's probably just sitting there monotonously thinking about only the grind, only the money; not once thinking about the game. I, on the other hand, lose a few people, restart the mission once, adapt, and eventually add infuse health to my elementalist skill bar to compensate for my healer buddies lower level, and manage to complete it with a few more deaths and a wipe. Frnakly, I'd enjoy the hell out of myself infusing others; living on the edge of death, making it interesting instead of running the same crap I always do. Hard is fun, so I make it difficult.
But maybe thats just me. Maybe I just like using "underpowered" skills to make the "Easy" PvE more difficult. But thats what should be fun. Yes, you have to rely on a build other then your precious SF or WoD, but at least make a build that makes it challenging.
