The parts of NPC trivia related to their future (GW2) prospects[edit]

Good morning, Quinn. I'm a little bit curious of what exactly does make you think that certain continuations of NPC stories occurring in Guild Wars 2 are irrelevant to the original game's wiki? Aren't they supposed to supplement one another and create the appropriate storyline integrity link? :) Thanks for the explanation. Dmitri Fatkin (talk) 03:19, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

I am going to interject my reasoning here, as I also remove this type of content: Guild Wars 2 happens chronologically after Guild Wars. While Guild Wars events are crucial to the Guild Wars 2 community and wiki from a lore perspective and other integral aspects, Guild Wars 2 events have almost no influence on Guild Wars. Save changes such as the new Elementalist skills, the legionnaire, and the fight against Reiko, all Guild Wars content has no in-game ties to Guild Wars 2. As we document Guild Wars here (rather than Guild Wars 2 or the Guild Wars franchise as a whole), any derivative and retconned ties to Guild Wars 2 are external information and cannot fall within the scope of documenting Guild Wars. What happens to characters/locations/etc. after Guild Wars, if not specifically mentioned in the game or on the official website, should go on GW2W. - Infinite - talk 07:58, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
Hey Dmitri and Infinite, thanks for reaching out to me about my edits. Largely I believe Infinite has answered for me. I feel as if some of these trivia tidbits bloat up the wiki with information from the sequel when this wiki is used to document the original Guild Wars. The worst-case offenders in my book are the articles with the "The Guild Wars 2 Wiki also has an article on X" widget but still includes GW2 information either in the article or the trivia. I'm all for keeping trivia and notes regarding content which was specifically made to connect to GW2 (like Beyond or EoTN), however. I'm open to future discussion about this topic, I noticed that the last major one took place here and the consensus at that time was to keep trivia and notes on GW2 lore. Well, you see, it seems to me that some of the original game's events which received further continuation in its second chapter do actually belong to exactly the same universe and relate directly to the characters which acted in it by the time the initial events of Prophecies campaign were taking place. For example, one might get interested about how the fate of certain original game's NPCs such as Alesia or Little Thom resolved before the events of the second chapter started to unfold, but, as you might discover, there are no articles entitled "Alesia" or "Little Thom" at the Guild Wars 2 Wiki, meaning one will have to delve into the one related to Dwarven Headstones, which makes the search more complicated (until someone will be willing to create a separate GW2W page describing the destiny of these original game's NPCs unrepresented on the Wiki). There are certain exceptions, such as the article about Nornbear / Svanir, presented on both wikis and being remarkably-connected to both pre-Elder Dragons awakening and the subsequent, post-event lore. However, not all of the characters are outlined like that. I know that either way one will eventually be able to find the topic he's been looking for, but, removing things as such from the trivia makes it a little bit more complicated. I am all for documenting lore for the Guild Wars universe, but I would highly recommend keeping it away from the main-main space, as that space is reserved for documenting the game as it is (rather than what it will be in its own in-universe future). I would suggest a "Guild Wars aftermath" article of some sort, following the style of other Lore articles. It can be an unofficially official lore article in its own right, or a multitude of them. - Infinite - talk 02:09, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Per example, the broadly informative Beyond Beyond section follows lore and references, to inform of the events that unfold after the end of the game's storytelling. - Infinite - talk 02:13, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
I'll agree with the fact that removing this trivia when there isn't a corresponding article on GW2W could complicate the process for lore-seekers finding out what happened to certain characters. I actually really like Infinite's idea and if people would like to implement it a la Ascalon census either here or GW2W, then I'd be happy to contribute to help appease both parties. Just leaving this as an FYI as I realize it doesn't address everyone's concerns, there is the option of using {{gw2w|Help Arcanist Vance study dwarven relics at Granite Citadel#Notes|Little Thom|3=}}. Handling future information while trying to keep the players' perspectives and knowledge in mind is difficult. Keep working it out, as there are some promising ideas above.
