Third-Party Programs

Would a program to run two versions of Guild Wars (commonly referred to as GWx2) go under third party programs, or some new/other section? Would there be a list (maybe not complete, but a list nonetheless) of third party programs that have been known to cause problems? Moo Kitty 19:38, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Let's see if I can put this two ways, for clarity. :) ArenaNet and NCsoft would not be able to provide a list of "approved" third-party programs because, in fact, none are officially approved. By the same token, it wouldn't be possible to provide a list of programs that are known to cause problems (A "Do Not Use" list) because a program that seems ok could acquire that "added bonus" of a Keylogger at any time. If that program were not on the "harmful" list, people might think it's ok to use. (That's probably a bit confusing, and I apologize for that.)
I can tell you in a general sense that anything that purports to offer a cheat, exploit, hack, duping method, gold spawner, or other prohibited mechanic is both disallowed and, generally, completely bogus. These programs are nearly always designed to entice people to download them simply to install a Trojan or keylogger on the victim's computer. (Support sees reports of this every day: accounts being stolen daily through the use of a third-party program. Even if Support can retrieve the account, it's usually stripped. :( )
The best thing to know is that a benign program like TextMod -- which is on one's own computer (client side) only and does not impact other players -- will not result in account action. (There is a wealth of commentary about TextMod on this wiki, so you can review ArenaNet's official position, if you wish.) Any program that gives some sort of in-game advantage will result in account action, up to and including account termination. I hope this info helps! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:59, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
I added a bit to the page on this topic. Thanks for the suggestion. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:44, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
