Do you think I play GW too much?[edit]

Today is my online birthday marking one year on Guild Wars. When I type /age I am told I have played 1300+ hours in the game. At 24 hours that comes out to 54 days straight or roughly 2 months. So it is as if I sat in front of GW for 2 months straight no sleep and the rest of the year I spent doing other activities. Another way to look at it, take 1300 divide by 40 hours a week and you get 32½ weeks out of an entire 52 week year! I received a mini Fungal Wallow I really love this game. :D --Wendy Black 10:37, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello[edit]

Hi, It's Jago The Protector. You just helped me. Simply to help. Players like you are solid gold, so keep it up. Hope I meet you again in GW or GW2! - Jago The Protector. (I've never edited a wiki so not sure if this is in the right place...) --Mightyikari 14:56, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Glad I could help and thanks for stopping by. --Wendy Black 15:21, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for being patient with me today & helping me with 'The Hunter's Horn'. Vashina Majesta aka Andreasa Elfhari 17:51 GMT 28/09/12

No problem you should try getting a bear for a ranger, that take real patience. :D --Wendy Black 15:15, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Guild Chat[edit]

Ok if you came here to sign up for the guild you are in the right place. Basically here is the rundown on what The Imaginary Friends is all about. We are a "fun" guild, when members are online we help where needed, even non-guild members. I ask all members to be polite, I joke around quiet a bit myself, but I don't hang out in Ascalon talking about religion and politics. If you seriously want to join and have fun you also will have the benefit of a fully stocked Guild Hall on the Imperial Isles. Either tell me your character name or contact me in the game. All members become officers after 20 days, unless they have stated otherwise. Once you become an officer you can invite others. You can read our Guild Page here for more information.

Thanks,

Foul Mouthed Trolling[edit]

For the most part 99.9% of the people who play Guild Wars are very cool. But yesterday morning at 10am I went into Pre-searing as Baron Velspa and said, "Good Morning Ascalon!" and was reply with some real foul mouthed garbage from player Sumiko Aion. I wouldn't get upset if this happens at 4am but 10am you could have kids online and I assumed he was just a kid and placed him on my ignore list.

My story would end there, but today a guild member of mine told me another. He said something about his parents being Japanese and he was born in Canada. He didn't say who, but the player blamed him for Pearl Harbor. He is a 21 year-old college student, how can you blame him for something in 1941 when his grandfather was born in 1944? His grandfather died of cancer a few years ago. These are sad examples of people with real psychological problems and need to see a doctor more than I already do. --Wendy Black 22:29, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm this gamer named Sumiko Aion. My sincere apoligies for my behaviour back then I deleted that character. It was like 12 years old now. I'm seriously having a hard time stopping with so called "Foul Mouth Trolling" most poeple in pre know me the usuals I mean. And there must be some things you havent been saying on your part of the story I believe I do not wish to make acquisations but I do not troll any1 who doesnt deserve it. I have been reported for verbal abusement my fair share of times, but if you honestly didnt do anything besides greet Ascalon or the gamers I'm truely sorry.

Two Bears in One Day[edit]

I never caught a bear in pre-searing as a ranger. But today I helped capture 2 in a row. The timing is very difficult. --Wendy Black 23:11, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Halloween 2012[edit]

I really dislike how Anet/NCSoft leaves presearing Ascalon out of the festivities. I am not saying they have to decorate but when they have these and other events some of the creature drops have little to no value. This Halloween I am encouraging my guild and others to participate in a presearing Ascalon Halloween Dance. If you are not too busy, if you have a character (as I do) in presearing, all I am asking you do is to leave them dancing online that night. I will be the Baron and I have a costume for the dance. Costumes can be purchased or just something you got from prior years events. I hope others will attend and play games and chat and have a good time. --Wendy Black 17:56, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Back from the Future?[edit]

I noticed (as did many) a sudden decrease population in September due to the release of Guild Wars 2. But now there is another growth spurt and people returning. I questioned some people, some told me they are just returning for Halloween and Wintersday. Others say they are somewhat disappointed by the sequel and wish they hadn't bought it. Others yet are back in school or college or just beginning to get their HoM score up so they can get perks in the sequel. The growth is most noted in the "pre-searing Ascalon" area. Places like Kamadan are not rebounding all that much. I doubt we will ever see the massive amounts of traffic like last Wintersday with over 20 districts full of people. Currently I have only one character up to "Ring of Fire", still planning to purchase EotN for Christmas, and continue playing this game at least a few more years before getting into GW2. By 2014 or 2015 they should have all the bugs worked out and more expansions. What is your position? --Wendy Black 12:44, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Baron Velspa married to Lady Velspa[edit]

Today out of the blue, Ascalon witnessed the marriage of the Lady to Baron Velspa. Angry Honey Badger and Baron Velspa was selling goods in the town square when Lady Velspa arrived and they had extremely quick wedding. Later the happy couple went Charr hunting. I am very interested to see where this relationship is headed. Best wishes to them both! --Wendy Black 19:23, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

About Guild Wars 2[edit]

I had to post this somewhere it might as well be here. People are coming into Guild Wars and they are trolling about how this game is lame compared to Guild Wars 2 and we should all move to Guild Wars 2. Well I keep telling them I have no problem with Guild Wars 2, but some of us have not finished playing the first game yet. At least 2 members in my guild just started playing it 6 months ago. I keep seeing trial accounts and new people coming through pre-searing so they are just supposed to quit and play the sequel because you say so? Next I point out that IF Guild Wars 2 is "so great" then why are you playing the original? Next thing that occurs and should not, players start hating on Guild Wars 2 comparing it to WoW (nothing can be that bad). I might yet play Guild Wars 2, if they make a trial version before I get old and die. But players who enjoy both games should respect both games. Guild Wars gave birth to Guild Wars 2 and that without it, would be like watching Jedi without seeing the rest of Star Wars. Good now I can just direct people here. :D --Wendy Black 01:47, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

ToT Hunting Advice[edit]

We must wait until the 24th for the Halloween Quests to activate so,

Presearing

This run from point A to B should snag you 5 to 6 ToTs in just this short run. Most of the creatures are less than level 3, from Aloe Seeds and Husks that cannot attack you, to simple bandits. You can pick up a few more if you go to the grawl valley but I find it best just to stick with this one route over and over. I grabbed up 55 ToTs in just a few hours.

Night Fall

The Plains of Jarin will make a quick 5 to 8 depending on how far out you venture. I suggest starting at Sunspear Great Hall and working in an outward spiral.

NOTE: DO NOT bring heroes or henchmen. You need to do this solo or the HH will snag your ToT bags!

Happy Halloween! --Wendy Black 10:24, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Halloween is tomorrow and I plan to hang out in my many guises. Baron Velspa will be in presearing of course. Red Death Witch will play about in Lion's Arch and Jedi will be in Kamadan. I will be off and on throughout the day. Normally we pass out candy but the cruel weather this year calls for cold and rain. Not a good combination for tots out trick or treating. We normally get 50 to 100 kids every year, but with the weather I will be surprised if 20 should show up. Hope you have a safe and happy Halloween. --Wendy Black 21:02, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Hacking Accounts[edit]

My husband is an IT person, he informs all his clients every year, about this time, that hackers get most active. Mainly because people are indoors more in the fall and winter season and have nothing better to do with their time. I know most people "think" they are safe but here are a few good tips to protect yourself.

  • Never use a common password.

When you sign up on some forum using the same email and password all the hackers have to do is get your character name and they are inside. It is much easier for the hackers to hack a forum than the GW database.

  • Use odd word combos and numbers in your password.

For example swordfish would be a very bad password, but swordzebra would be a bit harder and goldswordzebra even harder. Now lets replace the vowels with numbers (AEIOU = 43109) like this; g0ldsw0rdz3br4. Just about impossible to hack now. That is not my password by the way.

  • Don't fall for greedy cons.

People won't give you free gold at some website. They are out there phishing (fishing) for your information pure and simple.

  • Know when to use the command line option.

The -password command line option is great if your PC is secure (no one else in your home has access), it prevent keyloggers and other such programs from hacking your account. It would not be a good idea for college or other shared PCs.

  • NEVER post or share your information!

Best wishes, --Wendy Black 14:02, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
